For the first time in history, the Argentine Senate has opened the door to discussing Bitcoin thanks to the efforts of NGO Bitcoin Argentina. The meeting entitled “Bitcoin and its Regulation Framework” took place this week at Arturo Illya Hall in the Legislative Palace.
The event, hosted by NGO Bitcoin Argentina, brought together key political advisors and department heads from various political blocs to explore the potential impact of Bitcoin on Argentina’s economy and regulatory landscape. Gabriela Battiato, lawyer and legal coordinator for NGO Bitcoin Argentina, led a detailed discussion of the ongoing global regulatory debate surrounding Bitcoin’s philosophy, evolution and adoption.
“This is an important step towards legislative recognition in the crypto ecosystem. Blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies are already part of the economic reality, and it is essential that strategic decision makers have clear and accurate information.”
The conference, led by Sen. Antonio Jose Rodas, with the participation of Senator Mariana Giuli of Mendoza, showed a growing bipartisan interest in understanding and integrating Bitcoin within the Argentine legal framework. Their discussion of Bitcoin focused on the potential for IT transformation and its increasing role in global finance.
“This event will set precedents and reinforce the goal of bringing knowledge about Bitcoin and blockchain to all sectors of society. We will continue to promote these spaces as we believe that we can only build appropriate regulations through dialogue and education and promote sector development.”
