FTX, a collapsed cryptocurrency exchange led by Sam Bankman-Fried, is expected to begin paying key creditors at the end of May, Bloomberg reported this week in a Delaware court case.
The company has raised $11.4 billion in cash to distribute to thousands of political parties affected by the 2022 bankruptcy.
These include institutional investors and companies that hold Crypto on the FTX platform. Small creditors who have claims under $50,000 have already begun receiving the distribution.
The collapse of FTX left a trajectory for financial craters and frustrated creditors. Since bankruptcy, Bitcoin has more than four times the price, increasing frustration among those waiting for assets.
The task of unlocking the FTX balance sheet has been slowed down by numerous billing, but many are reportedly suspicious. Andrew Mortdelich, the company’s bankruptcy lawyer, told the court that FTX received a “27th quarter” claim, Bllomberg reported.
Interest payments are exacerbating the urgency. Although FTX only earns a small profit on cash, legal creditors are entitled to 9% interest annually on unpaid claims. The longer it takes to pay, the more your company can make payments.
