The long legal battle between the SEC and Ripple took another dramatic turn. Judge Annalisa Torres, who oversees the case, rejected a joint request from both Ripple and the SEC, which aimed to close the case in full.
This latest move means the fight is not over yet. The rejected submission was intended to adjust the penalty terms for Ripple and clear the way that both parties could revert the appeal. But Judge Torres didn’t have it.
Is XRP legal clarity?
To add to the drama, there were new claims to be made online rounds suggesting that “XRP lacks legal clarity” and lacks institutional support. This post claims that no major CBDCs are running in XRPL, and that only Bitcoin is part of the US reserve.
This didn’t work with Pro XRP lawyer Bill Morgan. He called it “the biggest lie I’ve seen on Crypto this year,” reminding everyone that Judge Torres had already determined that XRP itself was not security. And importantly, the SEC did not appeal that part of the decision.
This is a lie. XRP turns out that the judge itself is not security. The SEC appeal did not challenge that finding. The fact that XRP has no legal clarity is the biggest lie I’ve seen on Crypto this year. https://t.co/6x1aycuxja

When someone claims that it’s just a judge’s comment Dictator (The legal term for non-legally binding remarks), Bill Morgan responded firmly, saying that even Dictator would provide some legal clarity. He explained that the reasoning used by Judge Torres was a compelling authority in the court, saying there was no court that found XRP to be security, adding that “it has more judicial clarity than Bitcoin, but it has nothing.”
What’s next for XRP?
Despite the legal dispute, most experts believe that the final resolution is still on the horizon. Any rejected submissions will not affect XRP’s existing legal clarity or status. The SEC and Ripple need to revisit the penalty consultations, but the significant outcomes of the cases remain the same.
