Erik Bergman lost $1.25 million after the victims of the fake Mrbeast Crypto fraud who sprinted through WhatsApp groups.
The con man posed as a celebrity and billionaire, using FOMO and social pressure to invite him to Coinbase token investment scams.
Bergman chose to openly talk about his losses. Shame thrives in secret, but fades when shared, transforming his experience into a lesson for others.
Eric Bergman, a entrepreneur who is widely known for his online transparency, revealed how he became a victim of a $1.25 million crypto fraud. What began as a charitable donation quickly spiraled into one of the most elaborate scams he has ever encountered.
Fake Mrbeast Charity Calls lead to crypto fraud
It started when Bergman received what appeared to be a real phone call from Mrbeast and Mark Rober, and invited Team Water, a charity focused on the construction of wells in Africa. Inspired by the mission, Bergman pledged $1 million.
whatsapp group scam with fake celebrities
Shortly afterwards, Bergman was contacted by people pretending to be the team’s water manager. They invited him to join billionaires and celebrities on a donor trip to Africa. He was added to WhatsApp group scams such as Mrbeast, Mark Rober, Stake’s Eddie, Tobi and Adin Ross.
The group was filled with playful jokes and conversations to build trust. Unknown to Bergman, all members of its WhatsApp group are fake and designed to seduce them deep into the scam.
I was scamed for $1.25 million.
I’m embarrassed and stupid.
The story begins with receiving a call from @mrbeast and @markrober.
They ask me to donate the money @teamwater. To build wells in Africa and help people get clean water.

Coinbase token investment scam using FOMO
Once trust was established, the con artists proposed “exclusive” investments. “Mrbeast” introduced the offer, and Bergman, caught up in FOMO and social pressure, invested $500,000.
He then added another $750,000 when he was told the token price had already risen. Only after he found a contradiction like American influencers using British figures could he begin to question it. The direct call to the actual Mrbeast confirmed the truth. The entire network of chats and promises was fake.
Eric Bergman opens up about shame and recovery
The emotional sacrifice was serious anger, regret, and shame. However, unlike the small scam that once kept secrets in his 20s, Bergmann chose to open this time.
He immediately told his wife, then found support in his family and close friends who helped him deal with it through crying, screaming and emotional release.
Crypto analyst Darth Powell later described the incident as a classic case of psychological manipulation using urgency, peer pressure, and manufactured trust.
For Bergman, the lesson was clear. Shame thrives in secret, but loses power when shared. Despite a loss of $1.25 million, he is proud of his authentic donation to Team Water, with Mrbeast and Mark Rober praising their positive global impact.
