Changpeng Zhao (CZ), founder and former CEO of Binance, shared a security warning after receiving a message about a hack of Ledger’s Discord admin account. The scammer mistakenly claimed a security flaw and encouraged users to enter recovery phrases on phishing sites. Zhao highlighted two important lessons. The need not share personal key recovery phrases regardless of the requester, and the inherent vulnerability of social media accounts linked to cryptocurrency companies. Messages from Ledger’s community manager identified recently discovered vulnerabilities that could have published sensitive user data, such as shipping details and recovery phrases. Users have verified recovery phrases via the official verification page, urging them to follow certain steps to secure their accounts and to be eligible for compensation if their data is compromised.
