Former Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, has been found guilty of planning a coup along with several other serious charges. The Supreme Court sentenced him to prison for more than 27 years.
In his own ability as a political leader, Bolsonaro had a minor influence on pro-crypto regulatory policies. Still, his downfall has a major market impact.
Bolsonaro found guilty
Former Brazilian president and Trump’s ally, Jia Bolsonaro is at the heart of a massive scandal. After a slight defeat in the election in 2022, he was about to stage a coup. The case led to a long-standing legal battle, but the country’s Supreme Court finally ruled the case of Bolsonaro, and he felt guilty.
“It has been revealed by the Attorney General’s office that Jer Messias Bolsonaro has proven that he committed the crime accused of as leader of a criminal organization,” argued Carmen Lucia, the righteousness of Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court.
Bolsonaro was found guilty of planning a coup, being a member of a criminal organization, violence against state agencies, damage to public property and five counts of forcing them to overthrow the rule of law.
He is sentenced to 27 years and three months for these crimes.
Possible market outcomes
He was Trump’s ally, but Bolsonaro is a much more remote person to the international crypto community.
While in office, he supported several pro-law laws, but never made them an important part of his policies or official statements. Since his expulsion, Bolsonaro has seldom been interested in the space.
Nevertheless, this is a major moment in international politics and could have an impact on the code. Javier Mairi, another South American president and Trump ally, for example, faces his own legal battle. The conviction against Bolsonaro could make Miyato’s downfall more likely, and he is a vocal code supporter.
Other unpredictable outcomes may follow. Still, as far as Brazil is concerned, Bolsonaro’s conviction does little to prevent code advancement. His successor led many friendly policies, including the world’s first XRP ETF. For now, investors may not need to worry.
