The Tennessee man was arrested for stealing his partner and stealing about $400,000 in cash and more than $11 million in cryptocurrency. According to a report by WKRN, his partner was Nancy Jones, the widow of America’s great country singer and songwriter George Jones.
The suspect was arrested at Nashville International Airport on July 24, the day after authorities officially began an investigation, according to the report. Authorities claimed West was about to leave with stolen cash and about $11 million in cryptocurrency.
Criminals steal $11 million with code
According to court documents, Nancy filed a police report on July 23, where she reported theft of cash and digital assets. She reported that West jacked two safes inside Franklin’s house around June 26th, stealing cash and ledger crypto wallets. Nancy argued that the ledger wallet contains over 5.5 million XRP units, and that the digital assets are worth around $2.10 per unit at the time of stolen.
The digital asset was worth around $11 million, but by the time West was arrested by the authorities it jumped at $17 million. Her legal team was able to retrieve roughly five million XRP units, but almost half of the tokens are still missing, and is now worth around $1.5 million.
Reports say Nancy met West in 2013 after the death of her husband George Jones. In an affidavit filed in court, Nancy argued that West was a potential buyer of one of her property, but she quickly thought it was a trick to meet wealthy and potentially vulnerable women. After the initial contact, West moved to her house, sharing the first floor, and soon the pair began a relationship.
They began a romantic relationship, and Nancy was accused of funding everything from daily expenses to the new Mercedes-Benz. Court documents also showed West had no home, work or even money in his name before meeting Nancy, but were attractive enough to persuade her to enter into a relationship with him and put forward all the bills.
Nishi will appear in court on October 23rd.
This is not the first time West has been arrested by authorities. He pleaded guilty to federal bank fraud in 2016 after detaining Reliant Bank by forging financial documents to promote real estate loans. Nancy is said to have paid for his legal defense, covering more than half of the $800,000 compensation bill he owes. While still under house arrest due to that conviction, West began taking the crash course with code.
He urged Nancy to invest in digital assets such as XRP, Ethereum, Shiv, and Doge. He told her he was a cryptography expert, and Nancy went with him, putting all her trust. It remains unclear how much she invested, but her loss of XRP worth $1.5 million remains the only asset she cannot recover. Nancy calls her granddaughter on June 26 to help secure a safe for her room after suspecting West was cheating on her, claiming that it was when she discovered the money and her wallet was gone.
Nishi was kicked out of the house two days after the incident, but reportedly Nancy would only earn $5 million from the total funds. His bonds are set at $1 million and he faces a charge of theft. The court is scheduled to convene on October 23, and West is seeing a long sentence if convicted. Nancy has not yet issued an official statement, but her lawyers confirmed that she was the victim in this case.
