Famous XRP lawyer and former US Senate candidate John Deaton criticizes Elizabeth Warren, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin for the ongoing war in Ukraine, taking US spending, political motivation and military strategy I questioned it.
His comments followed a post by Vice President JD Vance on X. There, Vance argued that if Trump took office, the war would not have started, and that continued US aid would not lead to Ukraine’s victory. Deaton responded, sought accountability for war spending and questioned the long-term strategy of US involvement.
Deaton has questioned US war spending and Ukraine strategy
Deaton said he was named “traitor to democracy” simply to ask questions before agreeing to send more US funds to Ukraine. He compared her stance with Warren during the US Senate race and pointed out that she fully supported more aid, demanding answers before committing more money.
“When I ran to the Senate, both Elizabeth Warren and I were asked about their continued support for Ukraine,” Deaton said. “She said she wanted to send more money and listed Volodymyr Zelenskyy as the world’s most admired leader. I was able to blindly agree to sending more cash, and before I could even blindly agree to send more cash, I was able to do so. I said I wanted an answer to my question.”
Deaton, a retired Marine officer, said his support for freedom and those fighting for it, doesn’t mean he avoids asking questions. He called for lawmakers in Washington for not presenting a clear plan.
“The Mongers of the war world in Washington are not planning to bid on the “Victory of Ukraine,” a military industrial complex. It’s a wish, a desire, not a strategy,” Deaton said.
He pointed out that Ukraine has reached a deadlock at best after more than $200 billion in US aid, but many experts believe Russia is in the upper hand at present.
“I want to know: what is the long-term strategy? Is there a path to victory? Is peace talks at the table?” Deaton said.
He criticized political leaders, including Joe Biden, Mitch McConnell, Chuck Schumer and Warren. He also questioned whether the Biden administration’s stance on Ukraine has changed since Biden was vice president under Barack Obama.
“When Joe Biden was Vice President, he said Ukraine was historically one of the most corrupt countries in the world,” Deaton said. “I think everything changed overnight when he became president.”
Trump and Putin discuss Ukrainian negotiations as tensions rise
Meanwhile, Trump and Putin are engaged in indirect negotiations with Ukraine, showing significant changes in relations between Russia and the US.
Trump recently called Zelenskyy a “no-election dictator” and accused him of silencing his opposition while benefiting from US financial support. This came after Zelenskyy emerged after expressing his dissatisfaction with the US over negotiations with Russia without direct involvement by Ukraine.
Putin responded by praise of Trump, explaining that the negotiation efforts were more open and practical compared to previous US administrations.
“In general, as I was told, the mood was very friendly,” Putin said, referring to recent consultations between the US and Russian officials in Saudi Arabia.
Moscow, which spent the last three years politically and economically attacking the US, appears to be making a full U-turn thanks to his relationship with Putin, whom he spoke at least once since January 20th. .
JD Vance defends Trump’s position on Ukraine
Vice President JD Vance has dismissed the debate from critics who denounced Russia for softening Trump.
“This is moral garbage,” Vance writes to X: Secondly, Europe, the Biden administration, and the Ukrainians also have no paths to victory. ”
Vance said the US must now pursue peace, claiming that war is bad for Russia, Ukraine and Europe, especially for the US. He said that while Western leaders ignore the reality of the battlefield, Russia continues to maintain the numerical advantage of human power and weapons.
“Aidance is currently flowing,” Vance said. “But the numerical advantages of the Russians last. Another aid package will not change that.”
Vance accused European leaders of relying on US defense spending, pursuing domestic policies that most Americans disagree with. He argued that the US’s use of both Russia and Ukraine should be used to promote an immediate ceasefire.
Ukraine pushes back and dismisses Trump’s claim
Zelensky’s government responded to Trump’s accusations and called the Russian statement “disinformation.”
Trump has previously criticised Zelensky’s leadership, claiming that Ukraine has not held elections since 2019 and accusing him of using martial law to maintain power.
Ukrainian officials pointed to a new poll from the Kiev Institute for International Sociology. This found that 57% of Ukrainians still trust Zelensky despite the ongoing war.
Zelensky argues that elections cannot be held under martial law, which remains due to the continued military invasion of Russia.
Deaton calls for financial transparency in war aid
Deaton opposed the endless war funding and asked if another $50 billion would be sufficient, or if more requests would continue within months.
“Before we send more money, can we have an audit that shows exactly where all the dollars went?” Deaton said.
He pointed out that the $200 billion already given to Ukraine could have funded the domestic program instead.
- Ending homelessness in America
- Universal pre-K for 20 years
- Expand Medicaid in states that don’t adopt it
- Large scale infrastructure and job creation
He criticised American foreign policy and said that American leaders continue to promote foreign wars at the expense of domestic stability.
“The US has to get out of the Dick Cheney/Joe Biden administration interaction,” Deaton said.
