According to Twitter data, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) changed his profile name from “ex-@binance” to “@binance.” This change has fueled speculation that Zhao might return to his role in Binance.
Binance faced allegations in 2023 by the U.S. Department of Justice that it violated the Money Laundering Act and operated an unregistered remittance system. The company agreed to pay a historic $4.3 billion fine to resolve the case. At the same time, Zhao pleaded guilty to the fees of money laundering and resigned from his position as CEO. He was released in September after completing his four months in prison.
Zhao currently does not play an official role in Binance, but he is the only limited partner of Yzi Labs, an investment company previously known as Binance Labs, but in January it operates independently of Binance.
It is not yet clear whether the change in Zhao’s profile is an iconic move or whether it is the first indication of a plan to return to Binance.
