Wells Fargo is reportedly refusing to refund thousands of dollars that disappeared from customers’ accounts just hours after they started making deposits.
Willie Delane deposited a $10,000 life insurance check at a Wells Fargo branch in Wood Forest on September 15, Fox 10 reported.
Nine hours later, she received a text message from someone who appeared to be from her bank asking about the alleged fraudulent transaction.
Delane, who claims to have been a longtime Wells Fargo customer and has the bank’s number on speed dial, said she immediately called the company’s customer service and was told her account had been frozen and she would get a new debit card.
Despite the bank’s guarantee, Delane says she discovered the next morning that more than $4,000 had disappeared from her account.
She tried to recover the lost funds, but Wells Fargo said in a letter that the funds would not be returned because she had made fraudulent transactions.
Delane says she’s just depositing a check, but she’s not giving up easily.
“I’m going to fight for this. This is my money.”
When contacted by Fox, a Wells Fargo spokesperson said the bank was conducting an ongoing investigation.
