A new mystery has been solved as the US government used an unknown exploit to seize Bitcoin wallets. 220,000 wallets are affected, many of which are still active.
Now that the secret is out, hackers may try to leak these “destined” crypto addresses. Concerned readers should review the list of vulnerable wallets and move their tokens if necessary.
New flaw in Bitcoin wallets
The crypto community is full of questions after the US government seized $15 billion in Bitcoin this week. The assets were stolen in a known robbery in 2020, but detectives were puzzled as to how investigators obtained the private keys.
But now, a DeFi developer has revealed the nature of a new Bitcoin wallet vulnerability.

Apparently, the hacker’s wallet contained a critical error that made it easy for anyone to steal this Bitcoin. Analysts characterized these wallets as “doomed from the start” because the pseudo-random number generators that created the private keys had serious technical flaws.
Some analysts even theorize that law enforcement may have known about this Bitcoin wallet vulnerability for years without making it public.
Either the government deliberately kept secrets and only revealed them when prosecuting criminals, or someone else discovered them. In that case, the United States may have recently become aware of this flaw.
dangerous secret
In any case, it is clear why crypto crime fighters want to keep this knowledge out of public circulation. An estimated 220,000 Bitcoin wallets also contain this error. Many of these addresses are still active and it is easy for hackers to break into these addresses.
Readers may want to check the list to see if their Bitcoin wallet is vulnerable. If you have cryptocurrency stored on one of these flawed addresses, you should immediately move it to secure storage.

Still, full-blown hysteria may be inappropriate. A well-known detective claims in no uncertain terms that “if you use a trusted wallet, you won’t have this problem.”
Number generation failures are most common in self-programmed wallets, especially wallets that use AI-generated code.
However, many experts place great importance on wallet security in their products.
This means that if your Bitcoin wallet is provided by a major company, it’s probably safe. However, if you are using a lesser-known third-party creation, or have tried to create one yourself, you may not be aware of these serious issues.
This exploit is public and hackers could come and investigate it at any time.
