Cobo co-founder Shenyu claimed that US security forces had access to 120,000 Bitcoin (BTC) private keys.
Shenyu said this access was not made possible by “hacking” or compromising the system, but by detecting a randomness error used to generate the private key.
According to the information shared, the vulnerability affected over 220,000 wallet addresses. The private keys in these wallets were generated by a flawed pseudo-random number generator (PRNG) that operates on a fixed offset and pattern. This made the keys predictable.
According to our findings, all vulnerable wallets within the flawed PRNG range had a total of 136,951 BTC stored. However, the large wave of withdrawals that started after transaction “8b9de493..08f4a4c2” (starting with “95384d1c..8617c9e2”) lasted for about two hours, and by the time transaction “14bb56a2..07983bcd” was reached, the total balance had decreased to 193 BTC. Over the next few days, this amount decreased to approximately 4 BTC.
Another surprising detail about the suspicious transactions is the fact that many transfers used a flat fee of just 75,000 Satoshis. Experts say the amount is unusual and could provide further clues about the technical aspects of the case.
