At a special Trezor event held at the company’s birthplace in Prague, the CEO unveiled a new product touted as the future of self-management.
Matej Zak, who will be heading up the crypto wallet giant starting in 2023, highlighted the launch of Trezor Safe 7, which includes several new features for crypto wallets.
The presentation began by outlining the importance of being able to safely store your funds. Zak cited as an example the adverse developments that took place in Czechoslovakia in the last century. In order to introduce a new currency, the government effectively devalued the national currency, wiping out 98% of the people’s savings.
Zach said Trezor’s overall mission since its founding in 2013 has been to allow people to securely store their cryptocurrency assets in offline wallets, which has become known in the industry as self-custody, “not keys or coins.”
The new product aims to strengthen this security by introducing new features. For example, it uses Bluetooth to connect to any of your devices, so it’s completely wireless. It is protected by Trezor’s proprietary system and also allows wireless charging.
It’s equipped with a new type of 330mAh battery that has 4x longer charging cycles and can be safely drained to 0% before recharging.
It features a 2.5-inch color touchscreen display that is 62% larger than the previous model.
Danny Saunders, the company’s chief operating officer, called the new product “a complete solution in self-storage.” He said the company has revised its software and renamed it Trezor Suite (dropping the Lite part at the end) to improve the overall performance of Trezor Safe 7 like other company products.
This allows users to connect to thousands of crypto-native apps, including external wallets like MetaMask, to trade and store their assets.
Finally, the team emphasized that quantum capabilities will be introduced once the technological revolution becomes a larger part of daily life. While they acknowledged that quantum computing is something that few people really understand right now, they said that while BTC isn’t ready for it, Trezor Safe 7 is because it has “quantum-ready protections.”
