The ZKSYNC team gave the hackers behind the recent exploits a 72-hour ultimatum, returning 90% of the stolen funds and facing criminal liability.
The Zksync (ZK) Security Council said a positive response from hackers would bring the case to a friendly solution. The Layer 2 blockchain platform posted this through the official account of the message on-chain and project.
“If we return 90% of the funds involved in the exploit in order to safely resolve this issue in the spirit of a safe harbor, we are offering a 10% prize for your cooperation,” writes Zksync.
On April 15th, Zksync confirmed that $5 million worth of ZK tokens were stolen and its managed wallet was breached. According to the platform, the funds came from a chunk of “still as tokens not being billed by Zksync Airdrop.”
The latest update from the team at the time was that all user funds were safe and not at risk. Despite Crypto Hack, both the ZKSYNC protocol and the ZK token contract remain secure, the team says.
However, Zksync said an investigation into the incident is underway and the latest announcement is being made, with ZK prices bouncing.

The 72 Hour Ultimate requires hackers in particular to send 44,687,278.5988 ZK tokens to addresses from the ZKSYNC era. The hacker must also send 1,021.3 Ethereum (ETH) and 766 ETH to the given address. This includes Ethereum Layer 1 addresses under the control of the ZKSYNC Security Council.
“Funds sent to the above addresses managed by the ZKSYNC Security Council are not affected by transaction filtering to prevent transactions from addresses that currently hold exploited funds. Ethereum addresses listed in ZKSYNC era and deadlines must receive funds.”
According to Zksync, if a hacker returns the full amount of funds stolen within the deadline, the team will “publicly confirm” the resolution.
Zksync will close the case with a $5 million exploit without further action.
However, if hackers ignore the ultimatum, Zksync escalates law enforcement and issues.
