Three Malaysian PMs have been victims of AI (AI) Deepfake Blackmail, with threatening people demanding a crypto ransom. The lawmakers in question are Subang Rep. Wong Chen, Pandan Rep. Rafiji Ramri, and Sungai Petani Rep. Mohamed Taufik Johari.
Reports say Malaysian lawmakers are victims of cyber-terrifying mail containing pornographic images generated by doctors’ AI, a move that has been described by Wong as lazy and unprofessional.
In a statement released by Wong, the threats were revealed on September 12th after officers opened an email sent to the General Complaints website in the Congressional Office. The email included a screenshot showing the threat, a compromised positioned Wong, and a QR code asking for $100,000 on digital assets.
Malaysia PMS Block Mail with AI-generated images
Wong said he took careful steps to avoid communicating with emails after the message was discovered. “My officers did not click on the link or scan the QR code. They immediately reported the issue to Subang police. Wong said he later discovered that Rafiji also received the same email on the same day.
Malaysian lawmakers argued that the emails were the same, and that the same words and photos showed photos that were in a compromised position. “Aside from our faces, both photos are exactly the same, from folding pillows and blankets to the rooms, beds, and naked people in the photos,” he said. He also urged the public to scrape claims online that his phone had been hacked and to stop sharing rumors.
Wong also said he left the issue with police as it is expected to provide timely updates as the investigation progresses. The Malaysian MP also said he sought help from him and cryptocurrency experts to help him track down the scary mailer. He also added that the issue may be raised in Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Securities Commission to track accounts.
The lawmaker promises to reveal the identity of the perpetrator
A Malaysian lawmaker serving his third term said this was not the first time a non-cruel element had made such an attempt against him. He noted that if the perpetrator is not caught and allowed to continue this, it could become part of a wider effort to threaten lawmakers. Additionally, Wong also said the case would not allow him to discourage him from carrying out the work he was elected.
“I reflect Rafiji’s concern that these attacks could be more ominous and perhaps aimed at accessing our devices or undermining Congress’ democracy,” he said. “I will not retreat and will continue to carry out my duties without fear or favor.”
Meanwhile, Rafiji, who served as the Minister of Economy in Malaysia, confirmed yesterday that he received the same scary email message. He said he has faced four hack attempts in the past nine months.
In another statement today, Taufik said he was targeted by con artists circulating AI-generated porn content from people who share a portrait with him in exchange for digital assets money. He then said he urged police to get police involved, submit a police report and work on it quickly. He also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and not to succumb to threats or terrifying mail.
