The NYSE and the SEC are actively discussing the rapid, tracked integration of tokenized assets, aiming to align crypto innovation with the clarity of established market rules and regulations.
Behind NYSE-sec Crypto Talks: Tokenized assets can hit the trading floor quickly
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Cryptody Task Force met with representatives from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on June 24 to assess how digital asset regulations align with existing financial frameworks. A note from the SEC Crypto Task Force states:
The topic discussed was an approach to addressing issues related to cryptocurrency regulation.
Discussion focused on easing regulatory fragmentation across traditional and crypto markets. NYSE representatives – including general counsel Jaime Klima, chief product officer Jon Herrick, related advisor Patrick Troy and chief regulator Tony Frouge – in favour of “market participants’ parity” and warned “about different regulatory regimes of similar assets and entities.” The exchange outlined the list of tokenized stocks and trading considerations (traditional securities issued in blockchain infrastructure) and presented preliminary ideas for a general listing standard for Spot Crypto Exchange-Traded products (ETP).
Other crypto-based ETP modulatory therapies have also been addressed, and NYSE has made clear how such products will be integrated into the current list framework. This conversation reflects a common intention to reduce uncertainty and promote responsible innovation while maintaining market integrity.
The SEC’s Crypto Task Force is conducting both public roundtables and private meetings to shape the policy. Roundtables welcome a wide range of input on topics such as tokenization, custody, and distributed financial finance (DEFI), but one-to-one meetings (such as BlackRock, JPMorgan, or NYSE) are targeted discussions of company-specific compliance strategies. This dual format allows the SEC to balance extensive feedback with detailed operational insights, supporting regulatory development in a complex and evolving digital asset environment.
