March 7, 2025 – TetherThe largest company in the digital asset industry announced today that it has supported the frozen US Secret Service (USSS). $23 million Illegal funds related to trading on Garantex, a Russian authorized exchange.
Over the past year, Tether has worked on multiple cases of law enforcement, including helping with the US Department of Justice and the USSS. More widely, Tether is working closely with law enforcement agencies to block 2,090 wallets, including 960, in coordination with US agencies. For over three years, Tether has voluntarily helped to freeze illegal USDTs at the demands of over 900 law enforcement agencies. Of these, about 460 came from US institutions. To date, Tether has frozen over $2.5 billion in USDT linked to illegal activities, strengthening its commitment to money laundering efforts.
Working with over 235 law enforcement agencies across 55 jurisdictions, Tether has implemented strict wallet freezing policies to combat money laundering, nuclear proliferation and terrorist fundraising, allied with the OFAC Specially Designated Citizens (SDN) list, targeting wallets related to standard individuals and high-risk activities. Tether’s aggressive measures play an important role in fostering detection and recovery of illegal funds, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to public safety, financial safety and regulatory compliance.

Illegal crypto transactions fell to $45 billion in 2024, accounting for just 0.4% of total Crypto trading volume, according to TRM Labs. As part of a joint effort by Tether, Tron and TRM Labs, the T3 Financial Crime Unit has frozen more than $100 million in criminal assets over the past four months of 2024 alone.
