Valve removed the game titled Piratefi from its online store Steam after it was discovered to be embedded in malware. Security researchers, including Marius Genheimer of Secuinfra Falcon Team, revealed to TechCrunch that malware is designed to trick gamers into installing information steelers known as Vidar. Genheimer pointed out that Piratefi is likely a modified version of an existing game template, and that it is likely that it will allow hackers to deploy malicious software with minimal effort. Vidar malware is linked to a variety of cybercrime activities, including attempts to deploy ransomware. The origins of Piratefi remain vague as its developer, Seaworth Interactive, does not have an identifiable online presence.
