Three years ago, Sam Bankman Fried was a Washington, DC celebrity and made a large donation to Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign. He now sought a pardon from Trump after his Crypto Exchange FTX collapsed, leading to 25 years in prison.
Famous efforts to seek amnesty from SBF
Now Bankmanfried is trying to turn things around by asking President Trump for an amnesty. His efforts include high-profile appearances at conservative media outlets, including unauthorized spots on The Tucker Carlson Show *.
Carlson did not ask directly about the pardon, but he expressed interest in some Republican ideas and sparked rumours in the community about Trump’s pardon after the interview aired. After the interview, the Polymarket Prediction Platform reported that the possibility of a pardon filled with SAM bankers has almost doubled.
According to The New York Times, he was consulting with a nearby lawyer for Trump, and his father wrote an opinion piece in support of Trump’s sovereign wealth fund plans.
Insider doubts his chance
But despite the efforts, insiders are doubtful about his chances. One anonymous code lobbyist said his chances of getting pardon are “zero,” adding, “I’m sorry, but that’s the Trump world…close to zero.”
The idea of getting pardon for frying a bank is not impossible. Trump has previously supported Crypto Road founder Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Crypto Road, the founder of the Crypto Road, a popular figure in the world of Crypto, the Relentless Silk Road. However, Ulbricht had strong support in the crypto community, and he hates banker Fried, especially after the collapse of FTX and the resulting cryptography slump.
SBF families, including parents Joe Bankman and Barbara Fried, have consulted with lawyers connected to Trump’s past campaigns to secure pardon. They have not contacted Trump directly, but they hope that his trading approach to Clemency will work in their favour. But generous efforts have not gained much momentum.
On the other side, Crypto lobbyists told Fortune that Bankman-Fried’s chances could increase due to Trump’s increased ties with the industry and his willingness to give pardons. However, lobbyists still seem unlikely to see pardons as the broader crypto community has not prioritized the Bankman-Fried case.
