The Ripple vs SEC case once again took a central stage in X (formerly Twitter) rather than in court this time. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse recently announced the incident “behind them,” but the legal battle is still not on paper.
Political ties spark controversy
What’s even more chatty is a new political allegation over Ripple’s involvement in the 2024 US presidential election. Twitter users recently argued that Ripple and its top executives had primarily supported Vice President Kamala Harris during the election, whilst escheating support for Donald Trump.
The donation has led to division within the XRP community. Many users are now questioning Ripple’s political stance, especially as a substantial portion of the XRP fanbase is believed to support Trump.
Ripple was sued under the Trump/Clayton administration long before Gensler was appointed. I’m sorry about the basic facts.

Several online posts suggest that the XRP community may not be aware of the size of these political donations, and argued that XRP holders should consider marking the $3.50 mark about 3.50 if Bitcoin exceeds $125,000.
Former SEC lawyer defends timeline
Among all political carry-overs, former SEC attorney Mark Fagel intervened to revise records regarding the origins of the Ripple case. He reminded users that the SEC lawsuit against Ripple was filed under the Trump administration, led by former SEC chairman Jay Clayton, not Gary Gensler.
“Basic facts, sorry,” Fagel posted on Twitter. “The case was investigated and filed before Gensler was appointed. Gensler would not start this unless he had a time machine.”
When asked why Clayton chose to su Ripple on his final day of office, Fagel explained that the decision was actually made a few weeks ago. Clayton may have voted before leaving to prevent delays that could cause the lawsuit to be suspended for months while the new SEC chairman was confirmed. Gensler did not take over the role until almost five months later.
