Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen revealed that the San Francisco-based company is not actually funding the “Change the Code” campaign.
As Reported by U.TodayLarsen joined forces with renowned environmental organization Greenpeace to put pressure on the Bitcoin community to drop a Proof of Work (POW) consensus algorithm.
In his latest post, Larsen said Bitcoin had experienced a “surprising” energy transition. He now notes that mining relies primarily on renewable sources such as hydroelectric power, nuclear and wind, based on recent research conducted by the University of Cambridge.
Furthermore, flare gas, which is otherwise wasted, is also used to power Bitcoin.
As reported by U.Today, Ripple recently faced a backlash from Bitcoin supporters after donating its infamous “Satoshi Skull” statue to the world’s largest museum dedicated to the largest cryptocurrency.
However, some people recall the aggressive anti-Bitcoin ad campaign funded by Larsen.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse previously criticized Bitcoin for consuming too much power. As Reported by U.Todayhe previously described Pow Mining as “large waste.”
