Virginia’s Loudoun County police seized $1.4 million in cryptocurrency related to the “slaughter of pigs” fraud.
Police reporting the sheriff’s office confirmed that around $1.4 million tied to fraud has been recovered, marking one of Virginia’s biggest code attacks.
Sheriff Mike Chapman highlighted the department’s commitment to keeping fraudsters accountable, saying, “If you commit fraud, especially scams of this magnitude, know that Loudoun County is here for you.”
The incident began when the victim received an unsolicited text message addressed to the wrong person. This led to online conversations in which scammers gained the trust of their victims and convinced them to invest in cryptocurrency through fraudulent trading platforms.

After the first test withdrawal, the victims were fooled to invest more money. When they tried to withdraw the funds, they were told to pay excessive taxes in advance. This is a common tactic for pig slaughter fraud.
Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office detectives, certified in all blockchain investigations, tracked the stolen funds as part of an increase focused on cybercrime.
The agency investigated 107 crypto-related cases last year and reported total losses exceeding $13 million.
Authorities urge residents to be aware of unsolicited messages, validate their investment platform and consult with financial experts before making large investments.
Victims of Loudon County crypto fraud are advised to report the incident to the LCSO to improve their chances of recovering lost funds.
