The restructuring of key legal and compliance roles at Cryptocurrency Exchange OKX continues to step down the company’s global general counsel, Melissa Muehlfeld.
Muehlfeld joined OKX’s US division in May 2022 as a deputy advisor. She was promoted to the global general counsel in August 2024.
OKX paid $5 billion this February to resolve charges with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), which replaced top legal and compliance staff, including Chief Justice Officer Mauricio Beugelmans and Compliance Director Vanessa Chan.
OKX appointed former supervisor and head of the New York Financial Services Agency (NYDFS) Linda Lacewell (NYDFS) after the departure of Beugelmans.
Sources familiar with the situation say Lacewell is restructuring the company’s legal and compliance department.
“As a matter of company policy, we will not comment on all those who join and/or leave the company,” an OKX spokesman said in an email.
Muehlfeld did not respond to requests for comment.
