Uphold, a digital asset platform and Ripple partner, issued a scam warning to its users, which are primarily made up of XRP holders.
Dr. Martin Hiesboeck, Uphold’s head of research, said in a tweet that the cryptocurrency exchange is aware of a phishing scam asking users to download a new desktop application.
Hiesboeck noted that this was not a legitimate request from Uphold and urged users to be wary of such communications. Uphold’s head of research warned users that if they receive a suspicious email or message, they should not click on any links or download any attachments, and should report it to Uphold’s official support.

Uphold ranks as one of the largest holders of XRP, holding over 1.5 billion XRP to facilitate trading and provide customer custody services.
In particular, the amount of XRP held by users on exchanges exceeds the amount of Bitcoin held by about 10 times, an unusual trend when considering other centralized exchanges. Uphold was also the first exchange partner named upon RLUSD’s debut in December 2024.
XRP community urges to remain vigilant
Over the weekend, Ripple called on the XRP community to remain vigilant, noting that it had seen a significant spike in fake “live” YouTube videos during and after the swell event.
In this light, Ripple urges the crypto community to remain vigilant as neither Ripple nor its employees will ever request the transmission of XRP.
In another warning, RippleX urges the XRP community to be wary of scams such as fake Ripple, XRP live streams, giveaways, and deepfake videos. Ripple employees have repeatedly stated to the crypto community that they will never ask anyone to transfer funds, share wallet information, or participate in investment streams. When in doubt, users are encouraged to verify information through Ripple and RippleXDev while protecting their XRP.
