Jack Dorsey wants to completely scrap the IP law. Elon Musk stands for the idea, but not everyone is visiting it.
The Block and Twitter co-founders have now been rebranded as X and said in a statement Friday that all forms of intellectual property law, including copyright and patents, should be eliminated.
Remove all IP methods
– Jack (@jack) April 11, 2025
The statement sparked debate across X as users focused on the role of IP law in the digital age and how removing them would affect creativity and innovation.
Many people, including Musk and the Bitcoin Maximalist Max Keizer, support the idea. They argue that intellectual property laws suppress innovation and creativity.
💯
IP Law is effectively our collective unconscious global lobotomy.
Everything (all ideas) comes from our shared sense of unity and should return there as soon as possible to be hampered by the profits of the company. https://t.co/oty1voimuk

Some people have pointed out that current IP laws are outdated and unsuitable for the digital age, often creating artificial shortages and allowing exclusive control.
Chris thinks it’s worth understanding that there is a genuine free market case for IP. IP is actually a monopoly nation that hinders what I think should be genuine personal or business freedom to innovate.
See, for example, intellectual monopoly…

I agree. It will burn the entire structure.
The moment you do, innovation will explode more than ever. Culture accelerates. Technology evolves in real time. Ideas stop being hostages in legal territory and start to flow like open source code.
IP laws are not protected…

However, many tech leaders and creators have found Dorsey’s statements get in the way. Rumble CEO Chris Pavlovski has strongly disapproved Dorsey’s idea after taking part in the company’s Bitcoin Reserve race.
no! @jack And Big Tech wants to push this garbage so that all your data and content is available for free.
They hate IP laws because they can’t steal it for AI.
This should not be allowed. https://t.co/t1l1bd4kud
– Chris Pavlovski April 11, 2025
Pavlovski argued that without IP protection, large tech companies could use copyrighted materials at their disposal to train AI models without permission or compensation from the creator.
This is a scary take.
Creator IP needs to be protected.
Big Tech wants to steal content for AI purposes.
The creators put in great effort, and made livestock out of their work, and you just proposed to destroy that world.

Story Protocol co-founder Jason Zhao has posted a screenshot of Block’s patent in response to Dorsey’s appeal to remove the IP Act.

According to Carol Ross, the author of the New York Times bestseller, “You Own Nothing,” is essentially essential to protecting creators’ rights.
Property rights are natural rights, and intellectual property is as much of a physical one.
No one else should be able to copy my books and benefit from them.
No one else should be able to take a picture of the brand name or logo and place it on your clothes.
and so on. https://t.co/o5eftrol1z

Recognizing the benefits of the inventor’s patents, Adam Simecka, founder of Manna Bitcoin Wallet, said current IP systems are often “abused by businesses.” Still, he believes that eliminating IP law entirely may not be the solution.
The patent allows people in this country with good ideas that don’t have much money to invest in their inventions, hoping to make a profit before large companies can steal it.
IP laws are being abused by companies. Getting it off may not be the answer

Musk previously said that patents are “weak people,” but Tech Mogul uses patents to protect certain innovations.
June 2014, mask Tesla patents have been released. The company has chosen not to launch a patent litigation against anyone who wants to use Tesla’s technology in good faith.
