Alexander Grevich, a double citizen of Russia and Israel, was arrested at Israel’s Ben Gurion airport on May 1, and attempted to flee to Russia under his new name.
The 47-year-old is accused of participating in the 2022 hack of the US-based Nomad, Crypto Bridge, according to a report from the Jerusalem Post Office.
According to a US extradition request, Grevich exploited a vulnerability in Nomad’s code, pulling out a token of about $2.89 million.
He later contacted the nomad’s CTO under his false identity, apologized, returned some of the funds and demanded a “reward” of $500,000 to find the bug.
Authorities say he stopped communicating after Nomad provided him with 10% of the stolen assets.
Gurevich changed his name to “Alexander Block” on April 29th and obtained a new passport the next day. Israeli police arrested him at the airport before he got on the plane. He appeared in court in handcuffs on May 2nd.
