Winklevoss also raised the issue with Quintenz’s remarks that it is likely that more money and resources will be needed at the CFTC.
“The Trump administration wants to cut off the red tape and ease restrictions,” Winclevos said. “The candidate continues to advocate for a dramatic increase in budgets and overregulation that lead to regulatory capture.”
However, the issue of funding has long been the centre and central to the debate over cryptographic methods to overhaul CFTC authorities. Republicans routinely acknowledge that they are likely to seek more resources to allow institutions to oversee a wider new area of the financial sector, and for the first time they are actively regulating spot markets, meaning the market where actual assets are traded.

Gemini co-founders have stated that some of Quintenz’s past comments on the Central-Bank Digital Currency (CBDCS) could be treated as toxic by Republican politicians and the majority of the crypto industry. However, Quintenz’s statement in 2020 is relatively superficial, suggesting that it is important that it is “lagged behind legal and regulatory questions” about government tokens that the CFTC described as being publicly available as an area of particular interest to me.
Even interest should be disqualified, Winclevos argues.
“We shouldn’t be interested in entertaining the CBDC or such totalitarian technology,” he said. “In itself, it’s dissatisfied with everything our industry represents.”
From congressional candidates to Trump, Republican lawmakers portray the concept of the CBDC as a government campaign seeking control and oversight over citizens’ finances. However, the idea did not advance more than the point of discussion with some democratic lawmakers and the topic of technical research among regulators, as China and Europe moved to implement government-supported digital currencies.
Federal Reserve officials, including Chairman Jerome Powell, have regularly said they would not act without Congress and the White House. If a central bank issues digital dollars, officials said the transaction should be managed by US banks, not government.
The Vacuum of CFTC Leadership
Quintenz’s pause in the verification process poses several important questions about the future leadership of the CFTC. Currently, there are only two members on the five-person committee (one of each party) who say they will both leave soon. It could potentially leave a confirmed new chair on top of the agency.
