Let them bake cake: on Tuesday, a 17-year-old boy dumped flour on Jordan Bardella, the leader of France’s far-right National Rally. On Saturday, a 74-year-old man dropped an egg on his head. The boy must attend a citizenship course, according to CTV News, and the senior was arrested and charged with violence against a public official.
“The more we make progress, the closer we get to power, the more the violence from the far left, intolerance and pure stupidity are unleashed,” Bardella posted on social media. “But a wind of freedom, national pride and patriotism is blowing across France, and they won’t be able to stop it,” he continued, adding that he was fine.
Bardella replaced Marine Le Pen as party leader after her corruption conviction earlier this year. Elections are in two years, and he is well-placed to win the presidency. Current president Emmanual Macron is term-limited and extremely unpopular; the French political spectrum left of the fascists is a wasteland of charmless centrists, bloodless conservatives and an elderly socialist.
French pollster Odoxa predicted for the first time that 30-year-old far-right leader Jordan Bardella would win the next presidential election, scheduled in 2027, no matter who his opponents would be. … Depending on his opponents in a first round, he would get either 35% or 36% of the votes, Odoxa said, while he would win against all the other candidates making it to the second round.
There is a long tradition of throwing embarrassing but mostly-harmless objects at politicians.
A sign of the times: searching for footage of these incidents gets me AI slop recreations and basement-tier reaction videos. This from La Parisien seems real:
