FC Barcelona’s official Instagram account was hacked yesterday to promote a fake crypto project on the meme coin platform “Pumpfan”.
The hackers claimed that FC Barcelona was “building something huge in Solana” and promised users they would “go to the moon” when they revealed the address of the token in two posts.
However, there is no such announcement from the club’s official website.
FC Barcelona’s Instagram account has over 144 million followers. At one point, one of the posts was available for several hours before it was finally deleted. 169,000 views, 1,600+ comments, 1,400 reposts.

As expected, the token rose and fell like many lag pulls in the past. It was created at 12:45 a.m. UTC and reached a market of $3 million, but then plummeted to $47,800.
The token volume in the last 24 hours was $3.5 million, and its creator almost made a profit in the account DmPZBKYXHwE8MFTkUBEWiwEVRek1NNJkje5vcEoWRDEH. $26,000 in creator fees.
FC Barcelona’s encryption project is not a completely fanciful idea. Back in 2023, the club partnered with Socios to release ‘Fan Tokens’, with the club previously wearing the logos of crypto sponsors such as Whitebit and Chilix.
WhiteBit, a cryptocurrency exchange with ties to Justin Sun, continues to sponsor the team.
