Cake Wallet launches Cupcake, a free open source app that turns your spare smartphone or tablet into an air-gap cold storage device, offering hardware-level cryptographic security without shipping, cost or personal data collection.
Cupcakes store private keys offline while pairing with cake wallets in modes with views. Users create transactions in the online app, forward them to Cupcake for offline signatures via QR codes, and broadcast and return the signed transaction. Cake wallets place cupcakes as an alternative to traditional hardware wallets, recommending enhanced devices and airplane modes, citing faster access, plausible negativity, no transport or geographical restrictions, and reducing the risk of supply chains. Cupcake currently supports Bitcoin and Monero, touted as suitable for retail users and privacy advocates, and is aimed at those who want immediate banking cold storage without purchasing dedicated hardware.
