The scammer has fake arrest warrants for missing a ju-degree mission and is requesting payments with Bitcoin and gift cards. They use realistic court-style documents and urgent threats to exploit the fear of arrest.
Court warned of forged arrest warrants in connection with Bitcoin request for missing ju apprentice duties
The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia announced on March 21 that fraudulent schemes, including counterfeit arrest warrants, were circulating in the area. The fraud targets individuals pretending to be a ju-death mandate, using forged documents similar to the official US district court form, falsely claiming it originated from the Eastern District of Virginia.
The court’s statement explained how the perpetrator instructs the target to send money using methods that are difficult to track or reverse. As outlined by officials:
Scammers will request payments via Bitcoin, gift cards or bank account information to resolve the issue.
“Advise that unless you are actually summoned and appear for a ju judge’s mission, the US District Court will not issue an arrest warrant for not appearing on a ju judge’s mission,” the court noted. The scam appears to prey on a fear of individuals’ legal consequences by presenting forged documents and requesting immediate payments that are threatened with arrest.
Court officials urged anyone receiving suspicious documents, particularly those referring to Bitcoin, gift cards or phone-based payments, to contact the Western District of Virginia directly to confirm their reliability. The court warned:
If you receive an arrest warrant or other document, particularly if you receive other documents from the US District Court requesting Bitcoin and gift cards you are paying over the phone, contact the US District Court for the Western District of Virginia to verify legitimacy.
As similar frauds are rising nationwide, authorities continue to warn the public by sharing financial information in response to unsolicited legal threats.
