The Connecticut man pleaded guilty to participating in the $245 million Bitcoin theft. Reports say suspect Veer Chetal pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges of fraud and money laundering after his parents were lured.
According to court documents sealed this week, 19-year-old Chethal, from Danbury, Connecticut, has also agreed to testify against his co-defendants. The Connecticut native is one of three men charged with online fraud last August, and stole around 4,100 bitcoin from the victim, according to a Washington, D.C. resident who claimed that the trio has used the robbery lifestyle to spend millions on cars, jewelry, rental apartments and nightclub parties.

Authorities say that a week after Chethal and his conspirators committed the crime, his parents were lured and assaulted. The attack failed, but authorities believed that the attackers were trying to use some of the funds to secure the release of their parents, aiming to use the trickery to force Chethal, whom they believed had a large amount of digital assets.
Cetar’s parents were said to be in their new Lamborghini SUV when the attackers kicked them out and attacked them. Police said at the time that after they were taken, the attackers tied them down and pushed them into the van waiting for them. The witness immediately called the police. Police were able to respond quickly, arresting four men after the vehicle and van escaped on foot. Authorities say two other suspects were later arrested at a nearby home.
During the hearing, one of the defendants, Michael Rivas, apologized for his actions. He said it was a stupid idea and that he only did it to help one of the co-defendants who had reventa, but he didn’t elaborate. Meanwhile, his lawyer said he accepted being part of a gang in the hopes of getting a share of the booty. At the time, there were reports of Bitcoin theft, where the perpetrators reportedly were involved in large-scale spending.

The Connecticut-born criminal case was sealed in Washington federal court on Monday, revealing an agreement in November to work with federal authorities investigating his guilty plea and theft of Bitcoin. Prosecutors also said they are considering new allegations that they are involved in the thefts of around 50 thefts that stole more than $3 million between November 2023 and September 2024.
Last September, federal agents with search warrants stormed the Connecticut native Brunswick, New Jersey apartment, and his parent’s home in Danbury in connection with theft of Bitcoin. Investigators said they found more than $500,000 in cash, expensive jewelry and watches and gorgeous clothing. Federal agents also added that Chetal has around $39 million worth of digital assets, which was handed over to investigators. Authorities argued that Chethal could face deportation as part of a criminal case.
