Crypto Exchange’s leading Coinbase said it will temporarily suspend Ethereum deposits and withdrawals as the ETH network prepares for major upgrades.
The Pectra upgrade for Ethereum is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at 3:05am. A highly anticipated Ethereum Network upgrade, Pectra aims to optimize validator performance and streamline the user experience across ecosystems following a series of previous improvements under the Ethereum roadmap.
In a post on X, Coinbase said it will temporarily suspend Ethereum deposits and withdrawals between 2:50am and 3:45am to ensure the safety of users’ funds. Meanwhile, the start of new staking requests may be delayed until after 3:45am. However, existing pile positions are not affected.
In another announcement, Pax Gold (PAXG) on the Ethereum network has been added to the Coinbase roadmap.
Pectra upgrades are approaching
Ethereum’s next network upgrade, Pectra, will make its debut on the mainnet on the Epoch 364032 on May 7th. Pectra builds builds based on last year’s Dencun upgrade, increases Ethereum accounts, improves validator experiences, and introduces features that support L2 scaling.
Pectra introduces EIP-7702, an important step towards broad account abstraction, by enabling users to use the smart contract feature to enhance externally owned accounts (EOA).
Three new EIPs within Pectra are expected to improve three new EIPs: EIP-7251, 7002, and 6110: EIP-7251. The EIP-7251 increases the maximum balance that you can receive rewards from 32 ETH to 2048 ETH through a withdrawal-qualified opt-in update.
Another major change in Pectra is that EIP-7691 doubles the Blob throughput of Ethereum. The blobs introduced in the Dencun upgrade are temporary data storage that L2S can use to submit compressed transaction data and proofs to Ethereum L1. Ethereum MainNet currently supports an average of three blobs per block, with up to six blobs to handle peak demand. In EIP-7691, these numbers increase to an average of 6 and a maximum of 9.
