Bitise Cio Matt Hougan responded to concerns about whether the custody spin-off law law passed in the United States today could be overturned by a future administration. Hougan provided a clear message to skeptics: “No, they will not be overturned.”
Hougan writes that this question is often asked to Bitwise’s weekly CIO.
“The question is whether today’s legislative achievements will be reversed by future administrations. My answer is clear. No. I wrote more about this in this week’s Bitise CIO memo. At this point, “Arrows will come out.”
According to Hougan, cryptocurrency has become a rare issue in Congress that has attracted bipartisan support. The Genius Act, which passed Senate 68-30 in 2025 and was supported by 18 Democrats, is a prime example of this.
Hougan noted that one of the main reasons for this support is the financial sector’s interest in Crypto. He said the entry of key players such as BlackRock, JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley made it difficult for policymakers to retreat.
“Now, almost every major US financial institution has crypto-related initiatives,” Hougan said, adding that millions of Americans and thousands of businesses are looking to the space, and that politically back is almost impossible.
