Cryptocurrency Exchange Binance warns users about scams that contain fake SMS messages.
The scammer tries to trick users by sending messages that claim it is from Binance. These messages may claim your account is “at risk” and may encourage you to call a fake support line or click on a malicious link.
Binance highlighted the next point in its official statement:
- Binance will not call your phone number or ask you to click on the link via SMS.
- We will not share or request sensitive information such as seed phrases or private keys via SMS, phone or email.
Fake SMSS creates a sense of urgency such as new device login alerts and withdrawal requests, asking users to call their phone numbers or click on fake links.
Another thing to note is that messages sent by the scammer will appear directly on the phone under the name “Binance.” This can be confusing for users.
If you receive such a message, do not click on the link or call the number provided. Check your account directly using the official Binance app or website.
