You can access BestChange, the Russian-based Crypto website, again. The website aggregates exchange information and may be blocked for violating advertising laws passed last year.
The BestChange website was blocked without warning on February 10th and added to the list of prohibited websites managed by Federal Communications Agency Roskomnadzor. It was not blocked on February 20th.
A list of exchanged data may violate advertising laws
A spokesman for BestChange told Reuters that the organization had no idea why it was blocked. The organization’s lawyers had contacted the Russian Central Bank and Roskomnador, but they were not informed that the website was not blocked or that the reason for the blockage, the RBC reported.
Internet provider Megaphone had posted a notice that the website was blocked saying that the Central Bank of the Russian Federation (Bank of Russia) was blocked under federal law.
According to SimaryWeb.com, at least several websites currently operating in Russia that offer similar services.
Observers suspected the website was in violation of amendments to the advertising law passed in August. The amended law banned advertising for cryptocurrencies and services related to cryptocurrencies.
Crypto exchanges are caught up in a web of legal change
This website was blocked by Roskomnadzor in 2017, 2019 and 2020. In these cases, the blockage was due to the ban on the use of Bitcoin.
BestChange lists exchanges and compares the fees each offers for exchanges with cryptocurrency, FIAT, electronic money, and other financial products. You can send a notification when the exchange rate reaches a pre-selected point, and perform a “double exchanging” using intermediate vehicle equipment if direct exchange is not possible.
Bestchangji continues to operate while the website is blocked, perhaps because its website is accessible, which is hosted outside of the Russian Federation.
Russia has begun legalizing and taxing cryptocurrency mining, which local electricity supplies allow, and for international transactions aimed at avoiding sanctions imposed by the US and the European Union. Use is permitted.
It is also reportedly reported that there was debate over the establishment of a cryptocurrency exchange program at the Moscow Exchange and the St. Petersburg currency exchange. Russian President Vladimir Putin declared cryptocurrency as a form of property in December. Nevertheless, the central bank has since cracked down on commercial crypto transactions.
Despite these measures, Chain Dialysis ranked Russia seventh in its 2024 cryptocurrency adoption.
