Apple has introduced a new version of its Shortcuts app that works with built-in artificial intelligence (AI).
Announced on June 9 at WWDC 2025, the update combines automation and AI in a way that aims to simplify daily tasks for users.
People can create shortcuts that include responses from Apple’s own AI model, which runs directly on their device. If the task requires more processing power, it can utilize Apple’s secure cloud system, called Private Compute, to handle it safely without storing the data.

Developers will also be able to access the AI model to build new features into their apps.
This change means shortcuts can do more complex things with less effort. For example, a student might use AI to compare a recording of a lecture with their written notes, highlight missing information, and save the final version for review.
The shortcut can also call ChatGPT for additional explanations if needed, and include those in the results automatically.
Another feature called “intelligent actions” adds ready-made tools that use Apple’s AI. Some actions can summarize long blocks of text, while others can create images using Apple’s image tools.
Apple stated that the updated app will be available for testing starting on June 9. While the original Shortcuts app primarily appealed to experienced users, this version may be more accessible to a wider audience.
