The United States has allegedly indicted two brothers accused of orchestrating a violent nine-hour home invasion in Washington County, and stole $8 million in cryptocurrency in between. According to the US Lawyer’s Office, 23-year-old Raymond Christian Garcia and 24-year-old Isaiah Angelo Garcia were armed with an AR-15-style rifle and a shotgun when they attacked their family’s residence on the morning of September 19th.
Law enforcement arrested the pair in Texas on September 22nd. The next day, they were charged with multiple crimes in Washington County, including three triggers of firearm tricks, one count of aggravated robbery in the first degree, and a first degree robbery in the three counts. On September 24th, federal temptation charges were added, with both men expected to appear in court the following day.
Attorney Joseph H. Thompson condemned the case, saying:
“The violent temptation that stole $8 million and silenced the homecoming game is not just a crime. It’s a blow to the safety of everyone in Minnesota.
After suppressing the victim (the man, his wife, and his adult son), one of the brothers was forced to transfer large amounts of cryptocurrency to the address designated by the man. Throughout the trial, the brothers reportedly were in contact with an unidentified third party who provided instructions and information, including details about the additional funds stored in their hardware wallets.
When confronted by one of the siblings, the victim revealed that his wallet was in the family shed about three hours apart. Armed with a shotgun, Isia Garcia then drove it there by a man on which further cryptocurrency transfer took place.
Meanwhile, returning to his residence, the son of victim 1 grabbed a brief moment when Raymond Garcia left the house to call 911. Raymond escaped from the scene, leaving behind a suitcase containing disassembled AR-15-style rifle, ammunition, clothing and drinks. Isaiah Garcia also avoided an immediate arrest, abandoned the victim’s truck near Matmedi Public Schools, and urged the cancellation of a homecoming soccer game due to safety concerns.
