In 2025, several gruesome incidents show that crypto crime has spread from the screens to the streets. Access to private keys, wallets, and large-scale OTC transactions sparked violence, leaving bodies, burnt metal, and empty balances.
These stories shocked the digital asset space and revealed the horrifying reality that crypto crimes involve guns, warehouses, and fire.
Vienna Cryptocurrency Murders: Tortured for Wallet Passwords
In early November, Vienna woke up to the sound of a Mercedes burning under a railway bridge. Inside the car, 21-year-old Danilo K. was found slumped in the back seat, charred beyond recognition.

Police traced the murder to a hotel garage in Leopoldstadt. There, Danilo was ambushed by a 19-year-old Ukrainian student and his 45-year-old accomplice.
He was beaten, his teeth were pulled out, and then he was driven across town. His captors requested access to his cryptocurrency wallet. They forced him to give up his password after hours of torture.
When the attackers were arrested, they had drained his wallet and were carrying bundles of US dollars. Investigators later found a melted can of fuel in the back seat where Danilo died.
Reports said the victim, Danilo, died of suffocation from blood and fire. His wealth existed on a chain long enough for thieves to steal.
The suspects fled to Ukraine that night. However, although they were arrested, they would be tried there rather than in Austria.
Montreal Abduction: Cryptocurrency Influencer Disappears
Last year, 25-year-old crypto influencer Kevin Mirshahi was pulled into a waiting car in Old Montreal. Three others were also kidnapped with him and released the next day.
Mirshahi never returned, and his body surfaced in a riverside park four months later.

Police charged three people, including Darius Perry and Nakkael Hickey, with confinement and aiding and abetting murder. A woman named Joanie Lepage is charged with first-degree murder.
Investigators have not confirmed that the motive was cryptocurrency-related. However, Mirshahi ran a private token investment group and made public exposure in this space.
He built an online audience around his deals and wealth, but someone silenced it with trunks and duct tape.
$85,000 seized in parking lot ambush during virtual currency exchange transaction
In Trinidad, another crime unfolded quickly and methodically, with no possibility of escape.
On Nov. 29, a man arrived at the Super Farm parking lot on Trincity Central Road. He planned to buy virtual currency with $85,800 in cash inside a black bag.
A 52-year-old man in Trinidad was robbed of $86,000 by a man in the parking lot of a pharmacy where he was attempting to purchase cryptocurrencies.

Police reports confirm that he met with long-time business associates to complete the deal. Shortly after handing over the bag, two armed men approached the car.
They broke windows and pointed guns at residents. The suspects then took cash and both mobile phones and fled in a waiting car.
Cryptocurrencies were never exchanged. The authorities explained it as follows Targeted heist related to OTC virtual currency transactions.
A new era of violence
These cases demonstrate change. Cryptoviolence is no longer a digital heist carried out by hackers behind a screen.
It’s physical and includes a basement, cars, flames, hammers, and real screams. Cryptocurrency holders currently live with the uncomfortable truth that keys protect tokens, but tokens do not protect lives.
