Tether beats most ETFs in Bitcoin inflows with 27,700 BTC added in one year https://earlybirdsinvest.com/tether-beats-most-etfs-in-bitcoin-inflows-with-27700-btc-added-in-one-year/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/tether-beats-most-etfs-in-bitcoin-inflows-with-27700-btc-added-in-one-year/#respond Tue, 09 Sep 2025 11:07:54 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/tether-beats-most-etfs-in-bitcoin-inflows-with-27700-btc-added-in-one-year/

Stablecoin issuer Tether is one of the largest corporate accumulators of Bitcoin over the last 12 months, adding more coins to its treasury than nearly all spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

On Sept. 8, Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino shared data showing that the stablecoin issuer secured more than 27,700 BTC in the past year.

Of that amount, around 7,900 BTC were placed directly into the reserves backing USDT, while an additional 19,800 BTC were allocated to Twenty One Capital (XXI), a digital asset treasury fund to which Tether contributes.

The purchases put Tether ahead of several mid-tier ETF inflows, including VanEck’s HODL, Bitwise’s BITB, Ark 21Shares’ ARKB, and WisdomTree’s BTCW.

Yet the stablecoin operator’s buying remains modest compared with heavyweights like BlackRock’s IBIT, which absorbed 394,600 BTC, Grayscale’s mini Bitcoin trust, which added 44,200 BTC, and Fidelity’s FBTC with 27,900 BTC.

Ardoino’s breakdown highlights how the company has divided its Bitcoin strategy between backing its stablecoin and building longer-term investment positions.

Tether’s Bitcoin embrace

Tether began its structured Bitcoin acquisition in May 2023, pledging to allocate 15% of quarterly profits to the asset. That commitment established the company as one of the few major corporate actors with a standing policy to direct profits into Bitcoin.

However, its strategy has also faced scrutiny. Recently, YouTuber Clive Thompson claimed Tether had sold more than $1 billion worth of Bitcoin to help fund a $1.6 billion gold purchase, citing changes in the company’s public asset disclosures.

Ardoino responded by saying the decline in visible Bitcoin reserves was tied to transfers into XXI, not liquidations. He reiterated that Tether plans to maintain a diversified reserve strategy that includes Bitcoin, gold, and real estate.

Despite the debate, Tether’s holdings now total 100,521 BTC, valued at roughly $11.36 billion at current market prices.

Data from Bitcoin Treasuries ranks the company as the third-largest corporate holder of Bitcoin worldwide, trailing only Strategy, which recently rebranded as Strategy, and Block.one.

Gary Gensler’s SEC Phone Wiped, Nearly a Year of Texts Gone https://earlybirdsinvest.com/gary-genslers-sec-phone-wiped-nearly-a-year-of-texts-gone/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/gary-genslers-sec-phone-wiped-nearly-a-year-of-texts-gone/#respond Sat, 06 Sep 2025 09:39:45 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/gary-genslers-sec-phone-wiped-nearly-a-year-of-texts-gone/

An internal review has revealed that nearly a year’s worth of text messages from former Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler were deleted.

The Office of the Inspector General, which acts as an independent reviewer for the SEC, explained on September 3 that the messages were lost due to a combination of technical problems, overlooked warnings, and a misapplied policy.

The issue began on July 6, 2023, when Gensler’s work phone stopped linking properly with the SEC’s device management system. While the phone was still working and in use, its status was shown as “inactive” to the IT team, an alert that went unnoticed.

On August 10, 2023, the agency’s tech department announced that any phone not connected to the system for 45 days would be automatically wiped. Gensler’s phone met that condition and was cleared without any manual checks.

Then, on September 6, 2023, Gensler returned to the SEC offices and saw that certain apps were missing. Unaware that the phone had already been wiped, the support team tried to fix the issue.

However, instead of restoring the content, they reset the phone entirely, which erased any remaining data, including text messages from October 18, 2022, to September 6, 2023.

The report pointed to several other issues that contributed to the loss, including a lack of communication between IT teams and external service providers.

Meanwhile, SEC Chair Paul Atkins recently shared his views on how the agency plans to handle digital assets going forward. What did he say? Read the full story.

Sonic turns to US expansion after token drops more than 60% in a year https://earlybirdsinvest.com/sonic-turns-to-us-expansion-after-token-drops-more-than-60-in-a-year/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/sonic-turns-to-us-expansion-after-token-drops-more-than-60-in-a-year/#respond Mon, 01 Sep 2025 11:13:55 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/sonic-turns-to-us-expansion-after-token-drops-more-than-60-in-a-year/

Sonic community members have voted in favor of a wide-ranging plan to expand into the United States and pursue deeper ties with traditional finance, according to an Aug. 31 statement.

According to the network, the proposal passed comfortably after more than 860 million S tokens were cast in support, well above the 700 million quorum level. That figure represented 55% of all staked tokens, reflecting strong engagement across the community.

This approval allows Sonic to direct resources toward launching a US subsidiary, creating an exchange-traded product, and strengthening its balance sheet through new financing structures.

Sonic eyes US presence

The plan establishes Sonic USA LLC, a dedicated entity that will focus on policy, market access, and investor outreach in the US.

The subsidiary has been authorized to issue 150 million tokens and oversee a $100 million private investment in public equity (PIPE) linked to Nasdaq markets.

The proceeds will support balance sheet growth for a listed vehicle and provide liquidity for treasury purchases of S tokens on exchanges and through private deals.

In addition, $50 million has been earmarked for an exchange-traded fund tied to the S token. Sonic intends to work with a regulated ETF provider that manages more than $10 billion in assets, while BitGo will serve as custodian of institutional insurance and security protections.

Tokens allocated to these efforts will remain locked for at least three years, a measure designed to align incentives with long-term investors.

Fee mechanism

Alongside the US expansion, the community endorsed changes to the way fees are distributed on the network.

Under the new framework, 90% of revenue from FeeM transactions will go to builders, 5% to validators, and the remaining 5% will be permanently removed from circulation.

For non-FeeM activity, half will be distributed to validators while the other half will be burned.

By combining revenue redistribution with higher burn rates, Sonic aims to curb inflationary pressure and gradually create a deflationary supply model.

The network supporters argue that the update will reward active participants while preserving long-term value for token holders.

Some also hope these developments will spark an upward swing for the digital asset, which has fallen more than 60% during the past year despite the broader bullish market sentiments.

Getting ETH Exposure in 2025: Ether Near Record Highs, Tom Lee Sees $15K by Year End https://earlybirdsinvest.com/getting-eth-exposure-in-2025-ether-near-record-highs-tom-lee-sees-15k-by-year-end/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/getting-eth-exposure-in-2025-ether-near-record-highs-tom-lee-sees-15k-by-year-end/#respond Sun, 24 Aug 2025 08:14:20 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/getting-eth-exposure-in-2025-ether-near-record-highs-tom-lee-sees-15k-by-year-end/

Ether (ETH) is trading near record highs and bullish forecasts like Tom Lee’s $15,000 year-end target have put a spotlight on how investors can best gain exposure to ETH.

Market context

According to CoinDesk Data, ether, the second-largest cryptocurrency, is trading at about $4,783 at the time of writing, near its all-time highs, reflecting strong investor demand amid growing institutional adoption.

Tom Lee, head of research at Fundstrat, CIO of Fundstrat Capital and chairman of BitMine Immersion Technologies (BMNR), told CoinDesk last month that ETH could reach $15,000 by the end of 2025. His comments highlight renewed optimism around Ethereum’s growing importance for stablecoins, decentralized finance (DeFi) and real-world asset (RWA) tokenization.

Direct ETH ownership: the purest play

Owning ETH outright is the most straightforward way to participate. Holders gain full control of the asset and direct access to Ethereum’s decentralized finance (DeFi), NFT and staking ecosystems. ETH trades 24/7 across global markets, but investors must manage custody and security — whether through self custody wallets or third party custodians — and contend with evolving regulations. Costs are generally limited to exchange fees and gas.

Spot ETH ETFs: regulated simplicity, with staking proposals pending

Spot ether ETFs have made it possible for traditional investors to gain regulated ETH exposure through brokerage accounts. Some issuers are now seeking permission from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to add staking to their products.

If approved, staking would allow funds to earn additional yield by securing Ethereum’s proof-of-stake network and pass that income to shareholders. That would represent a first for U.S. crypto ETFs.

Prominent ETF analyst Nate Geraci said on July 30 that staking-enabled ether ETFs are likely to be “the SEC’s next hit list” before it takes up applications for other spot crypto products.

His point reflects a broader expectation that regulators will scrutinize staking first, since it blends DeFi-native mechanics with traditional fund structures. For investors, that means staking-enabled ETFs could reshape exposure by adding income streams beyond price appreciation — but only if regulators are satisfied that custody, transparency and market manipulation concerns are addressed.

For now, the SEC has acknowledged amendments to allow staking but has not yet granted approval, leaving timing uncertain.

Corporate treasuries: equity exposure with added volatility

Another path is investing in shares of publicly-traded companies that hold ether in their treasuries. BitMine Immersion Technologies, for example, disclosed on Aug. 18 holdings over 1.5 million ETH, currently worth around $7.3 billion.

This approach ties shareholder value to ETH price movements and, potentially, corporate staking income. But equity exposure adds new risks:

  • Capital raising risk: Companies need strong share prices to issue new equity for ETH purchases. A weak stock price directly limits their ability to grow treasuries.
  • Double volatility: Even if ETH rises, the company’s stock might fall due to unrelated factors (earnings, sentiment, governance), meaning investors face risks beyond ETH’s price swings.

Comparing the options

Direct ETH

  • Pros: Full control, access to DeFi/NFTs, 24/7 liquidity
  • Cons: Custody and security risks, regulatory uncertainty
  • Best for: Hands on investors comfortable with wallets

Spot ETH ETFs

  • Pros: Regulated, simple brokerage access, potential staking yield (if approved)
  • Cons: Fees, SEC hurdles, no DeFi access
  • Best for: Traditional investors seeking simplicity

Corporate Treasuries

  • Pros: Exposure to ETH plus potential corporate growth/staking returns
  • Cons: Double volatility, dilution risk, governance exposure
  • Best for: Equity investors looking for a hybrid play

Choosing a path

With ETH near record highs and bold forecasts fueling investor interest, the question for 2025 is less about whether to own ether and more about which vehicle best fits each investor’s risk appetite.

These Seniors Will Save Money on Taxes This Year Thanks to President Trump's New OBBBA Deduction https://earlybirdsinvest.com/these-seniors-will-save-money-on-taxes-this-year-thanks-to-president-trumps-new-obbba-deduction/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/these-seniors-will-save-money-on-taxes-this-year-thanks-to-president-trumps-new-obbba-deduction/#respond Fri, 22 Aug 2025 16:30:09 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/these-seniors-will-save-money-on-taxes-this-year-thanks-to-president-trumps-new-obbba-deduction/ It could give you a little breathing room this tax season.

If you’re a cash-strapped senior, you may find it a little easier to manage your taxes next spring thanks to the “big, beautiful bill” that became law last month. Contrary to what some sources have said, it’s not because the law eliminated Social Security benefit taxes. Those remain exactly the same as when the government first created them in the 1980s.

Instead, the law adds a new senior tax deduction worth up to $6,000 for a single adult or $12,000 for a married couple. This can significantly reduce your taxable income — and your tax bill — for the year. But before you get too excited, you’ll need to qualify for the savings by meeting both of the qualifications below.

Excited person looking at laptop.

1. You’re at least 65 or older

The new senior deduction, like the previous senior tax deduction, is only available to adults 65 and older. If you’re younger than this at the end of the year, you will not qualify for the deduction in 2025, even if you’re claiming Social Security benefits. On the plus side, you may be eligible for the deduction even if you haven’t signed up for Social Security yet.

2. You aren’t a high earner

This tax deduction has income phaseouts that limit the savings available to high earners. If you’re a single adult with an annual income of $75,000 or less in 2025 you’ll qualify for the full $6,000 credit. The same goes for married couples with an annual income of $150,000 or less.

After this, the credit is subject to a 6% phaseout. So it drops by $60 for every $1,000 your income exceeds the above threshold for your marital status. For example, a single adult earning $76,000 would only qualify for a $5,940 deduction instead of the full $6,000 deduction.

If your income exceeds $150,000 for a single adult or $250,000 for a married couple, you will not be eligible for any new deduction under the law for the 2025 tax year. However, you will still qualify for the standard deduction and the existing senior tax deduction of $2,000 ($1,600 each for a married couple).

How much will the new deduction save you?

A tax deduction is basically income the government doesn’t tax you on. So if your income was $60,000 this year and you qualify for a $12,000 tax deduction, you’ll only pay taxes on the remaining $48,000.

The exact dollar amount you’ll save depends on several factors, including your annual income and tax filing status. A Council of Economic Advisors report estimates that the average senior who qualifies for the new tax deduction will see an increase of $670 in after-tax income. But it’s possible that you may save slightly more or less than this.

If you want a better idea of how much money you’ll save under this new law, talk with an accountant who can give you advice on your specific situation. Also, keep in mind that if you end up earning more than expected during the rest of 2025 or withdrawing more from your tax-deferred retirement accounts, like your 401(k), than you planned, this could increase your tax liability for the year.

You should also bear in mind that, according to the law, the new senior deduction will only remain in effect through tax year 2028. After that, it’s slated to go away unless the government chooses to extend it or make it permanent. So this is something to pay attention to if you don’t want to be caught off guard in future tax years.

Google ‘altcoin’ searches hit 5 year high as ‘alt szn’ fever returns to retail traders https://earlybirdsinvest.com/google-altcoin-searches-hit-5-year-high-as-alt-szn-fever-returns-to-retail-traders/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/google-altcoin-searches-hit-5-year-high-as-alt-szn-fever-returns-to-retail-traders/#respond Wed, 13 Aug 2025 09:07:12 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/google-altcoin-searches-hit-5-year-high-as-alt-szn-fever-returns-to-retail-traders/

Google search activity for “altcoin” has reached its highest level in five years, matching interest levels last seen during Ethereum’s foundation.

The surge coincides with a shift in market structure as Bitcoin’s share of the total crypto market has slipped toward 60% after peaking mid-summer, a pattern that has often preceded periods of stronger performance in alternative cryptocurrencies. Ethereum has subsequently reached multi-year highs, breaking $4,500.

altcoin searches (Source: Google Trends)
altcoin searches (Source: Google Trends)

Bitcoin dominance recently eased to the 59–61% range, a threshold where capital historically begins to rotate into large-cap altcoins such as Ethereum, Solana, and XRP. That rotation appears to be underway in institutional markets as well. CoinShares reported record weekly inflows into digital asset investment products in late July, totaling $4.39 billion, with Ethereum accounting for $2.12 billion, nearly double any previous weekly inflow for the asset.

On-chain and derivatives data also reflect the change in positioning. CoinGecko’s Q2 report showed perpetual DEX trading volumes hitting a quarterly record of $898 billion even as centralized spot volumes softened. Market-wide capitalization excluding

Bitcoin and Ethereum broke out of a seven-month downtrend in June, reclaiming roughly $900 billion. Kaiko data from Q1 also identified a widening volatility gap between altcoins and Bitcoin, a structural feature common in the early stages of previous alt seasons.

Search data is not a direct measure of trading activity, but past cycles have shown that spikes in retail attention tend to align with the initial phases of altcoin rallies.

The current alignment of high search interest, a decline in Bitcoin dominance, elevated inflows to non-Bitcoin products, and increased leverage usage on alt-heavy trading venues mirrors conditions seen ahead of major altcoin cycles in both 2017 and 2021.

The sustainability of the trend will depend on whether Bitcoin consolidates near its highs or reasserts dominance.

A decisive move above the mid-60 percent dominance range would historically blunt altcoin outperformance, while a continued range-bound Bitcoin price could maintain conditions favorable for further rotation into the broader altcoin market.

Where Will Nvidia Stock Be in 1 Year? https://earlybirdsinvest.com/where-will-nvidia-stock-be-in-1-year/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/where-will-nvidia-stock-be-in-1-year/#respond Sat, 09 Aug 2025 23:04:04 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/where-will-nvidia-stock-be-in-1-year/ Investors are wondering whether the world’s largest company can deliver more upside in the coming year.

Nvidia (NVDA 1.05%) is the world’s largest company, with a market cap around $4.4 trillion. It has reached this place thanks to its dominant position in the market for artificial intelligence (AI) chips that handle training and inference workloads in data centers.

The booming demand for AI chips has helped Nvidia deliver outstanding growth over the past several quarters. Its terrific growth has led to healthy market gains of 68% in the past year as of market close Aug. 4, despite a difficult start to 2025. In fact, Nvidia stock’s returns have easily outpaced the 18% gains clocked by the S&P 500 index during this same period.

Investors, however, may be wondering whether Nvidia has the ability to sustain its momentum in the coming year, especially considering its huge market cap and high valuation. In this article, I will take a closer look at Nvidia’s catalysts and see where the stock could be after a year.

The term AI written on an abstract circuit board.

These developments suggest Nvidia has room for more upside

Massive spending by cloud computing giants and governments around the globe has played a central role in driving Nvidia’s outstanding revenue and earnings growth in recent quarters. The good part is that Nvidia can continue counting on these avenues for growth.

For instance, the capital expenses of big tech players Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, and Meta Platforms are expected to hit $364 billion this year, up from an earlier estimate of $325 billion. All these companies are investing substantially in AI data center infrastructure to bring more AI-focused cloud solutions to customers.

The updated capital spending forecast points toward a 63% increase from last year’s outlay. A nice chunk of this spending can be expected to be directed toward chips that power AI infrastructure. McKinsey estimates that 60% of AI infrastructure spending is likely to be directed toward chips and computing hardware.

Nvidia’s addressable market, therefore, is likely to expand. Importantly, the company is the leading player in the AI chip market, with an estimated share of more than 90% at the end of last year.

Another factor that’s going to give Nvidia stock a nice boost is its access to the Chinese market. The company was frozen out of China in April of this year following export restrictions on the sales of its AI chips to that country. However, Nvidia recently pointed out that it has received assurances it will be able to sell its AI chips to Chinese customers once again.

The company has reportedly placed orders for 300,000 China-specific AI chips with its foundry partner Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). That’s in addition to the stockpile of 600,000 to 700,000 existing H20 AI processors that Nvidia is currently sitting on. Nvidia is expected to generate an estimated $15 billion in revenue from sales to Chinese customers in the second half of the year.

It is worth noting that Nvidia incurred a $4.5 billion charge in the first quarter of fiscal 2026 on account of restrictions on shipments to Chinese customers. The company also highlighted that its fiscal Q2 revenue would take an $8 billion hit because of those export restrictions. Meanwhile, the aggressive spending on AI infrastructure by governments across the globe is expected to boost Nvidia’s annual revenue by $10 billion to $15 billion.

As such, don’t be surprised to see Nvidia’s revenue in the current fiscal year (which will end in January 2026) coast past Wall Street’s expectations of $201 billion, which would translate into an increase of 54% from last year.

But what about the valuation?

Nvidia stock’s recent rally has brought its price-to-sales (P/S) multiple to 29 and the price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio to 56. The company needs to keep growing at a faster pace than the market’s expectations to justify its rich valuation.

The potential growth outlined above suggest it is indeed capable of doing so. The company’s planned re-entry into the Chinese market, along with the substantial increase in AI-related spending by big tech companies that have been buying Nvidia’s data center processors, could easily help it eclipse consensus expectations in the coming year.

The impressive growth Nvidia is expected to deliver is the reason its forward earnings multiples are much lower than the trailing ones.

NVDA PE Ratio (Forward) Chart

NVDA PE Ratio (Forward) data by YCharts. PE Ratio = price-to-earnings ratio.

So, growth investors should still consider buying this AI stock, which the most optimistic analyst gives a price target of $250 for the next 12 months. That points toward potential gains of 39% from current levels, and there is a good chance that Nvidia could end up hitting that mark thanks to the healthy spending on AI infrastructure in the coming year.

Billionaire investor Ken Griffin is placing a major bet on a company that’s far outperformed expectations this year.

According to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Griffin’s hedge fund Citadel has acquired 3,824,329 shares of NioCorp Developments Ltd (NB), a company advancing critical minerals development in the United States.

NioCorp’s flagship project in Nebraska aims to produce rare earth minerals like niobium, scandium and titanium.

Citadel’s holdings of NB represent 5.4% of its total portfolio, and 5.2% of the total outstanding shares.

NB, with a market cap of just $229 million, is trading at $3.16 after opening the year at $1.41 in January – a gain of 124% so far.

Citadel’s positioning in the company appears to underscore a focus on the energy sector, given its recent win on Chevron’s $53 billion takeover of competitor Hess Corporation.

Citadel Advisors, Adage Capital and HBK Investments were part of a group of investors betting on the acquisition as part of a merger arbitrage strategy, which involves betting on the outcome of a merger or acquisition, typically by taking long and/or short positions in the stocks of the companies involved.

Citadel and HBK each had the equivalent of $1 billion in shares, according to the firms’ latest filings, says Bloomberg.
