A publicly listed real estate firm has become the first corporate treasury vehicle to hold Chainlink (LINK) as a reserve asset, signaling the growing push by companies to adopt alternative digital assets beyond Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH).

CaliberCos, a Phoenix-based asset manager whose stock has fallen more than 98% since its 2023 Nasdaq debut, announced that its board approved a strategy to allocate part of its treasury to Chainlink’s native token.

The company also plans to stake the tokens to generate yield for investors and integrate Chainlink’s blockchain technology into core operations such as asset valuation and automation.

Treasury shift amid struggles

The pivot comes as Caliber grapples with severe financial pressure. Just a day before the announcement, Nasdaq issued the company a delisting notice for failing to meet the $160 million minimum stockholder equity requirement.

At the end of June, Caliber’s equity stood at just $17.6 million.

Despite its challenges, the move drew strong investor reaction. Shares surged 60% after the announcement, highlighting how digital asset exposure can provide momentum to struggling firms.

The announcement also comes amid several high-profile developments and partnerships for Chainlink, including with Japan’s SBI and potentially spot exchanged traded funds tied to LINK.

Chainlink adoption expands

With the decision, Chainlink joins Bitcoin and Ethereum as tokens adopted by corporate treasuries, expanding the universe of digital assets held on balance sheets. Caliber’s board described LINK as a liquid asset with long-term growth potential.

The firm’s CEO, Chris Loeffler, said the strategy reflects Caliber’s goal of being a diversified alternative asset manager that bridges physical and digital infrastructure.

Alongside the treasury allocation, Caliber has also formed a crypto advisory board made up of several experts to oversee its digital asset policy.

The development marks a milestone for Chainlink, whose token has risen sharply this year amid record wallet growth and growing adoption of its blockchain services.

Russian Governor Says Gas Solution May Solve Region’s Bitcoin Mining Woes https://earlybirdsinvest.com/russian-governor-says-gas-solution-may-solve-regions-bitcoin-mining-woes/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/russian-governor-says-gas-solution-may-solve-regions-bitcoin-mining-woes/#respond Mon, 28 Apr 2025 02:48:23 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/russian-governor-says-gas-solution-may-solve-regions-bitcoin-mining-woes/ A Russian provincial governor has claimed that associated gas produced at oil drilling sites could provide a solution to ongoing Bitcoin mining-related concerns.

Earlier this month, the BTC mining hotspot of Irkutsk unveiled the nation’s first-ever year-round ban on crypto mining in the southern part of the oblast.

This move came just months after Moscow imposed a wintertime ban on crypto mining in 10 Russian and Russian-controlled regions until 2031.

Russian Gas Alternative for Irkutsk Bitcoin Miners?

Per the Russian news agency Interfax, the Irkutsk Governor Igor Kobzev has urged major players in the mining market to join forces with oil and gas companies.

He said that the parties should unite to build data centers that use “alternative fuel sources.”

Kobzev made the comments during an April 25 address on the state of affairs in the region. He claimed that the Irkutsk government was “not against mining as a phenomenon.”

However, he reasserted claims that miners need to overcome electricity shortages. And he said his government had a duty to ensure residents and enterprises in the region enjoyed uninterrupted electricity supplies. Kobzev said:

“The regional government is ready to act as a platform to coordinate interaction between mining operators and enterprises working in the oil and gas production sector. There are already successful cases of firms building data centers powered by autonomous generation. These firms use associated gas.”

Russian oil firms have been working with crypto miners on associated gas-related pilots since the start of the current decade.

Some of the nation’s biggest BTC miners and oil firms, including BitRiver and Gazprom Neft, started working together in 2022.

Russia Starting to Feel Crypto Mining Boom Downside?

Russia has seen one of the world’s biggest booms in Bitcoin and altcoin mining in recent years. With many miners forced out of China, Russian miners have claimed that taxing their industry could bring Moscow hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of revenue.

But this growth has taken a toll on many areas’ energy grids. The Ministry of Energy is reportedly mulling issuing three more regional mining bans as networks in some areas begin to suffer.

Other parts of the country claim they have surplus power that they can use to power miners’ rigs.

But Kobzev appears keen to keep miners in southern Irkutsk away from public grids at all costs. He pledged to support associated gas-powered crypto mining initiatives “in every possible way.”

He also said that such a partnership could help improve the Irkutsk environment by reducing flaring.

Could BTC Miners Switch to Russian Gas Power?

When drilling for crude oil, producers often release pockets of natural (associated) gas. If drillers do not have any infrastructure that lets them capture this gas, they must instead burn it using flare stacks.

Many industries are hesitant about using associated gas, as it tends to produce intense but irregular bursts of energy, rather than uninterrupted flows.

Some Russian miners, however, say that they are happy to use this model of energy flow, provided they can pay discounted rates.

Kobzev was optimistic about the said that a failure to stamp out crypto mining-related energy problems could see the capacity deficit in southeastern Siberia hit just shy of 3GW by 2030.

But critics say that efforts to ban crypto mining in southern Irkutsk have instead resulted in a rise in illegal and quasi-legal operations.

Some claim that rising Bitcoin prices have also played a role, with miners now increasingly reluctant to turn off their rigs.

As the Ripple SEC lawsuit nears resolution, ‘the end is finally here’ for XRP’s legal woes https://earlybirdsinvest.com/as-the-ripple-sec-lawsuit-nears-resolution-the-end-is-finally-here-for-xrps-legal-woes/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/as-the-ripple-sec-lawsuit-nears-resolution-the-end-is-finally-here-for-xrps-legal-woes/#respond Sat, 12 Apr 2025 16:03:15 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/as-the-ripple-sec-lawsuit-nears-resolution-the-end-is-finally-here-for-xrps-legal-woes/

Ripple Labs and its XRP token have been at the center of one of the most high-profile legal battles in crypto history.

The lengthy dispute with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which began in December 2020, has shaped Ripple’s trajectory and raised broader questions about crypto regulation in the U.S. As Ripple and the SEC filed for a joint motion to pause their appeals, April 16 could finally mark an end to Ripple’s litigation woes.

The Ripple SEC lawsuit: the end in sight

The Ripple SEC lawsuit stems from the SEC’s allegations that Ripple sold XRP as an unregistered security. While Ripple has consistently argued that XRP is a currency and falls outside the SEC’s jurisdiction, the case has become a litmus test for how digital assets will be regulated in the U.S.

In July 2023, Judge Analisa Torres ruled partially in Ripple’s favor, stating that XRP sales on public exchanges did not violate securities laws but institutional sales did. This mixed ruling led to appeals from both parties.

Recent filings suggest that a resolution may be imminent. On April 10, Ripple and the SEC jointly filed a motion to pause their appeals and prepare their terms, citing an “agreement in principle” to settle the case.

Legal expert Fred Rispoli stated that Ripple has a 90% chance of resolution by April 16, either through settlement or withdrawal of appeals. He posted on X:

“On SEC v. Ripple, expect to see something happen on or before next Wednesday, 4/16… Ripple cannot get an extension and either has to file it (10%) or there will be a notice of settlement/withdrawal (90%).”

What’s next for Ripple and the broader crypto industry?

The potential resolution of the Ripple SEC lawsuit holds significant implications for regulatory clarity in the U.S. If settled favorably, it could establish a precedent for distinguishing between securities and currencies in crypto markets, potentially replacing the outdated 1946 Howey Test, and encouraging institutional participation in XRP and other digital assets.

Despite its legal hurdles, Ripple has continued to expand its ecosystem and strengthen its market position. In March 2025, Ripple acquired Hidden Road for $1.25 billion, positioning itself as a global multi-asset prime broker, a move demonstrating its ambitions beyond blockchain payments.

Ripple’s partnerships with financial institutions remain central to its strategy. Its ability to facilitate fast and cost-effective international transactions positions XRP as a valuable tool in global finance.

Critics argue that Ripple must address concerns about centralization within its network a longstanding issue tied to its pre-mined supply and control by Ripple Labs. Vocal Bitcoin advocate, partner at Castle Island Ventures, and cofounder of Coinmetrics, Nic Carter, even commented:

“XRP isn’t a cryptocurrency, it’s not meaningfully decentralized, it’s literally a token on a DB maintained by a single entity (+ some [unconvincing] decentralization theater).”

In any case, the resolution of Ripple’s case could reshape crypto regulation in the U.S., especially under incoming SEC Chair Paul Atkins, who is expected to be more favorable toward digital assets and innovation. Ripple’s ability to negotiate favorable settlement terms could also influence ongoing legal disputes involving other crypto firms.

Bitcoin To The Rescue? Saylor Says EU Will Need BTC Amid Euro Woes https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-to-the-rescue-saylor-says-eu-will-need-btc-amid-euro-woes/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-to-the-rescue-saylor-says-eu-will-need-btc-amid-euro-woes/#respond Sat, 22 Mar 2025 14:16:51 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-to-the-rescue-saylor-says-eu-will-need-btc-amid-euro-woes/

Bitcoin proponent Michael Saylor has publicly stated that the European Union should consider buying Bitcoin, especially after the Euro experienced a recent drop in value. According to reports, the Euro (EUR) has weakened against the United States dollar (USD) since yesterday.

The decline followed a report from the Federal Reserve that many interpreted as leaning towards lower interest rates in the future. The Euro’s value fell from a high of 1.08 against the USD on Thursday to its current level of 1.07.

Euro Under Pressure Following Fed Signals

The recent weakening of the Euro occurred after the Fed decided to keep interest rates steady. These rates have remained between 4.25% and 4.50% since December. However, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell reportedly suggested the possibility of a 50-basis-point rate cut before the end of 2025.

Furthermore, the Central Bank has been under pressure from US President Donald Trump to cut interest rates, claiming that this is the proper course of action.

The greenback has increased in relation to other currencies, particularly the Euro, as a result of the rally in US stocks and bonds brought on by these dovish US sentiment.

Saylor’s Bitcoin Pitch As A Potential Hedge

Saylor, executive chairman and co-founder of MicroStrategy (now Strategy), said on social media that Bitcoin might provide a remedy amid this currency movement. In a statement made public this week, Saylor appeared to urge the European Union to proceed swiftly with any intentions to purchase BTC.

He implied that if the EU had held Bitcoin, it could have acted as a protection against the recent decrease in the Euro’s value. For context, the price of Bitcoin has risen by 2.6% against the US dollar in the last 24 hours, trading at $85,400, at the time of writing.

Saylor also pointed out how the US dollar has far outperformed the Turkish Lira (TRY) since 2021, and how this has resulted in a significant devaluation of the Turkish currency. He observed that Bitcoin has been among the top-performing assets in the same timeframe.

EU’s Potential Crypto Venture Gains Traction

A member of the European Parliament, Sarah Knafo, has recently urged the EU to consider establishing a strategic reserve of Bitcoin.

She highlighted the apparent success of El Salvador, a country that has officially adopted Bitcoin. According to reports, El Salvador’s economy has been transformed through President Nayib Bukele’s adoption of Bitcoin and other forward-thinking initiatives.
