wallets.

According to a September 1 post on X by SlowMist’s Yu Xian, criminals are taking advantage of a new Ethereum feature, EIP-7702, to pull funds from user wallets once they have been compromised.

Ethereum’s May upgrade introduced EIP-7702, which allows regular wallets to behave like smart contract wallets for a short time.

Xian explained that attackers first gain control of a victim’s private key. After that, they set up a delegate contract on the wallet address. This contract gives the attacker the ability to approve and process transactions.

Once the wallet receives a deposit, such as WLFI tokens, it is only a matter of seconds before the funds are withdrawn to the attacker’s own wallet.

In one example reported on August 31, an X user claimed their friend’s WLFI tokens were stolen after they sent ETH into the wallet. Xian confirmed that this looked like the “Classic EIP-7702 phishing exploit”.

Xian also explained that even when users try to transfer remaining tokens from the compromised wallet, the gas fees can be rerouted to the attacker.

To reduce the damage, Xian recommended canceling or overwriting the delegate contract associated with EIP-7702. He also advised moving any remaining tokens to a secure wallet as soon as possible.

Recently, Anthropic warned that its chatbot, Claude, is being misused by bad actors to support online criminal activity. How? Read the full story.

WLFI had its moment… then crashed https://earlybirdsinvest.com/wlfi-had-its-moment-then-crashed/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/wlfi-had-its-moment-then-crashed/#respond Mon, 08 Sep 2025 05:15:24 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/wlfi-had-its-moment-then-crashed/

Sooo, it happened – the Trump-backed DeFi project, World Liberty Financial, unleashed its token, WLFI, onto the open market.

It hit major exchanges like Binance, Kraken, Bybit, and OKX yesterday.

And it came with a bang. The price doubled instantly, the market cap hit nearly $10B at one point, and WLFI briefly became the #20 biggest crypto in the world.

before it crashed.

The token’s now ~50% lower than its all-time high, and the market cap’s down by $3B.

WLFI was pitched as a governance token last year – the idea being that holders could vote on how the platform evolves.

Cool cool. Except… the ownership is super top-heavy:

👉 Team & advisors control ~33.5% of the total supply

Roughly a third of the supply is locked up with the people who built and promoted the project.

👉 Treasury → ~20%

Another big slice went into a treasury controlled by World Liberty Financial itself – again, not in circulation.

👉 The Trump fam → 22% – 24%

Filings and media reports say that roughly a quarter of the entire token supply is linked directly to the Trump family. At launch, that alone was worth billions on paper.

Put together, insiders control ~70% of all WLFI. For everyday holders, that means two things:

  1. When insiders sell, retail can do little but watch the charts bleed;

  2. Governance is more illusion than reality. The token may be marketed as community-driven, but insiders control enough supply to push through any decision they agree on.

Ay, and wouldn’t you know it, there’s already a major proposal up for a vote.

In response to the crash, World Liberty Financial introduced a new governance plan we like to call burn, baby, burn.

The idea: use 100% of the fees earned from WLFI’s protocol-owned liquidity (aka POL) to buy WLFI on the open market – then burn it.

This means those tokens would get sent to a “dead wallet” – gone forever, never tradable again.

“Lmao, ok, but why?” 😀 Glad you asked:

👉 Reduce supply → fewer tokens = more scarcity.

👉 Support the price → regular buybacks create buying pressure, which can stabilize or increase prices.

👉 Reward holders → as supply goes down, each remaining WLFI becomes slightly more valuable.

So yeah, a buyback-and-burn can help stabilize the price and make the token look more appealing – if people actually use the platform and those fees keep coming in.

But it won’t fix the centralization problem, and it won’t clean up WLFI’s reputation (which isn’t at its best state rn – the mood seems to lean more skeptical than supportive online).

Unless they plan to burn the doubts as well? To be continued.

WLFI Hype, Suspicious Moves, and Sun’s Public Appeals: The Gift That Keeps on Giving https://earlybirdsinvest.com/wlfi-hype-suspicious-moves-and-suns-public-appeals-the-gift-that-keeps-on-giving/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/wlfi-hype-suspicious-moves-and-suns-public-appeals-the-gift-that-keeps-on-giving/#respond Sun, 07 Sep 2025 07:50:39 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/wlfi-hype-suspicious-moves-and-suns-public-appeals-the-gift-that-keeps-on-giving/

The WLFI launch this week was troubled by confusion and controversy, as retail investors, once again, bear the brunt of what many allege to be insider manipulation. WLFI froze Tron founder Justin Sun’s wallets after unusual transactions raised concerns of insider selling.

Sun is pressing the project to unfreeze his allocated tokens.

World Liberty Financial Drama Continues

On launch day, the community allocation, initially expected to be 5%, only saw 4% of tokens actually go live, as not everyone utilized the designated lockbox. WeRate co-founder Quinten Francois explained that liquidity and marketing, initially reported as 1.6%, actually accounted for 2.8% of the supply. This brought the circulating supply effectively to 6.8%.

Meanwhile, other allocations, such as the 10% ecosystem fund and 7.8% reserved for Alt5 Sigma, weren’t truly circulating. In fact, Francois said that they were simply unlocked but not subject to vesting schedules, which created an illusion of available supply that complicated price dynamics.

Adding to the complexity, Justin Sun held 3% of WLFI’s total supply. Only 20% of his stake was technically unlocked at launch. He publicly promised not to sell, saying that he supported World Liberty Financial’s long-term goal.

The token debuted at $0.20, with a $1 billion market cap, while trading volumes spiked into the billions, generating intense hype. Despite this, WLFI’s price steadily declined, and the on-chain price action appeared suspiciously mechanical rather than driven by genuine community selling.

Francois suggested a likely scenario behind the volatility. Exchanges may have offloaded part of the 2.8% liquidity allocation, while Sun allegedly leveraged his connections with HTX, offering users 20% APY to deposit WLFI. This setup would allow him to quietly sell his personal holdings while making it seem as if tokens were being staked by users, and even backfill user withdrawals with his own stack if necessary.

Reports indicate Sun moved early $9 million worth of WLFI tokens through HTX and Binance from his addresses, activity tracked by Nansen, Bubblemaps, and Arkham Intelligence.

Ultimately, WLFI froze Sun’s wallet using the guardianSetBlacklistStatus function, following these suspicious transfers. The freeze fueled speculation that Sun used user deposits to liquidate his holdings, turning retail investors into exit liquidity.

Sun’s Public Appeal

A community member praised WLFI’s governance vote that froze Sun’s address, saying it at least temporarily blocks him from repeating prior patterns of alleged pumping and dumping tokens on retail investors.

Meanwhile, Sun has publicly appealed to the World Liberty Financial team to restore access. He described the freezing of his tokens as “unreasonable” and stressed that, like other early investors, he “deserves the same rights.”

In a bid to calm nerves and regain investor confidence, Sun also went into damage control mode and tweeted that he sees US-listed crypto stocks as “an undervalued opportunity.” He further pledged to personally buy another $10 million of WLFI.

World Liberty Finance Blacklists TRON Wallet Over $11M WLFI Case https://earlybirdsinvest.com/world-liberty-finance-blacklists-tron-wallet-over-11m-wlfi-case/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/world-liberty-finance-blacklists-tron-wallet-over-11m-wlfi-case/#respond Fri, 05 Sep 2025 21:00:42 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/world-liberty-finance-blacklists-tron-wallet-over-11m-wlfi-case/

A high-stakes confrontation is unfolding between World Liberty Financial (WLF) and its largest investor, Justin Sun, after the project blacklisted a wallet containing billions of its WLFI tokens.

The move, which effectively froze an estimated $100 million in assets, follows intense market speculation that Sun was responsible for a significant sell-off, contributing to a dramatic price collapse for the token.

Blacklist Sparks Governance Crisis

On September 5, blockchain analytics account Spot on Chain revealed that WLF’s controlling address invoked the blacklist function on the WLFI contract, targeting wallet 0x5AB2…DA74. The address had bought three billion WLFI during the project’s initial coin offering (ICO), unlocked 600 million, and recently moved 54 million tokens, worth around $11 million, to fresh wallets.

By blacklisting the address, WLF froze the remaining tokens indefinitely. Commentators quickly pounced on the development. “WLFI just proved DeFi isn’t ‘decentralized’ at all … it can be blacklisted, frozen, shut down,” wrote analyst Shanaka Anslem Pereira, comparing the maneuver to IMF-style controls.

Justin Sun, who invested $75 million into WLF in 2024, hit back on X, blasting the freeze as unjust. “My tokens were unreasonably frozen,” he wrote, stressing that “tokens are sacred and inviolable—this should be the most basic value of any blockchain.”

Sun went further, warning that WLF’s actions “not only violate the legitimate rights of investors, but also risk damaging broader confidence in World Liberty Financials.”

Price Fallout and Market Outlook

At the time of this writing, WLFI was trading at $0.1815, down 1.6% on the day after dipping as much as 4.2% in the past hour. The token has collapsed nearly 40% from last week’s high of $0.3087 and is now down 45% from its September 1 peak of $0.3313.

Yesterday, selling pressure drove WLFI to a record low of $0.164 before it rebounded slightly. For now, trading remains frenzied, with more than $1.3 billion in daily turnover, while the project’s market cap stands near $4.9 billion, which still puts it within the global top 40.

The standoff between Sun and the WLF team is now the defining test for the project. If the blacklist remains, observers say it risks cementing perceptions that WLF’s governance is centralized and arbitrary.

However, even if it were to be reversed, the blacklist could already have harmed WLF’s credibility, which, a while back, saw the Trump family quietly trim its ownership from 60% to 40%. In either case, WLF’s promise of a “decentralized” financial system is facing its most significant challenge yet.

World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a decentralized finance (DeFi) project linked to Donald Trump, has taken action to block suspicious activity before launching its token.

According to a post on X by the WLFI team, compromised wallets were added to an on-chain blacklist just ahead of the release.

This preventive step was handled by a designated wallet, which carried out several blacklist transactions on September 3.

WLFI explained that the wallets were affected by user-side problems, such as private key leaks, and not due to any vulnerability in the platform itself.

One key focus of the blacklist was WLFI’s “Lockbox”, a vesting tool that holds user token allocations until they are unlocked. The team said the blacklist helped stop attempts to steal these locked tokens, and they shared two transaction links from Etherscan as evidence of the blacklist in use.

The project also stated that it is working with individuals whose accounts were affected to help them restore access.

The WLFI token officially launched on September 1 by unlocking 24.6 billion tokens and opening them up for trading. The high visibility of the event drew attention from scammers.

Fake smart contracts that mimicked the real project were created to mislead users. These clones, called “bundled clones” by analytics firm Bubblemaps, aim to trick people into transferring funds to the wrong addresses.

Additionally, Yu Xian, the founder of the security company SlowMist, reported a phishing scam targeting WLFI holders. What did he say? Read the full story.

Trump’s $5.6 billion WLFI sparks big question what does it really offer https://earlybirdsinvest.com/trumps-5-6-billion-wlfi-sparks-big-question-what-does-it-really-offer/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/trumps-5-6-billion-wlfi-sparks-big-question-what-does-it-really-offer/#respond Wed, 03 Sep 2025 11:08:34 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/trumps-5-6-billion-wlfi-sparks-big-question-what-does-it-really-offer/

World Liberty Financial now carries a market value near $5.6 billion. However, many of us who watched WLFI’s debut are still unsure what the project actually does, what has shipped, and what, if anything, is new.

To date, deliverables include USD1, governance voting, and a proposed Aave v3 money market. Let’s weigh those elements against the valuation and ownership incentives that frame WLFI’s first days of trading.

World Liberty Financial’s WLFI token began public trading on Sept. 1 after holders voted to allow transfers.

The launch put a multibillion-dollar value on a token that started life as nontransferable, raising an immediate question for investors assessing a roughly $5 billion to $7 billion market value: what is substantively new here?

What has WLFI actually shipped?

The project describes WLFI as a governance asset. Holders can vote on proposals, including the July decision to make WLFI tradable, but published materials and third-party explainers do not show equity, revenue rights, or other cash flow tied to the token.

That framing, governance without economic rights, remains the clearest documented utility as of this week. The shift to tradability came by vote and does not add a claim on protocol revenue.

What has shipped around WLFI is largely adjacent infrastructure. USD1, a dollar stablecoin issued by the same venture, is live with custody and infrastructure provided by BitGo, and Binance announced a USD1 spot listing in May.

These elements establish fiat on-chain plumbing but accrue no direct economic right to WLFI holders.

The flagship money market that would mark clear DeFi utility, a proposed Aave v3 instance branded for WLFI, has gone through Aave governance checkpoints. However, there is still no public, verifiable WLFI front end or running market for users.

The Aave forum shows a temp check and an ARFC thread for an Ethereum deployment, yet no production launch is documented on Aave’s site or WLFI’s public channels. As Aave governance records indicate, the idea exists on paper, not as a usable market today.

Trading began via a staged unlock and a Lockbox claiming flow. Exchange communications reference pre-market perpetuals that transitioned alongside the spot go-live, and multiple venues now show WLFI pairs or price pages, with activity on Binance, OKX and Bybit.

The mechanics concentrated the initial float, with only a fraction of the supply unlocked for early investors. Per Bybit’s pre-market notice, OKX, and day-one reporting that pegged market value in the mid-single-digit billions.

Is WLFI really worth its multi-billion valuation?

Ownership and incentives sit at the core of the valuation debate. Reporting places the Trump family’s exposure near a quarter of the token supply through affiliated entities, with new wealth on paper following the trading switch.

Reuters further reports that DT Marks DEFI LLC, tied to the family, holds equity and revenue rights in World Liberty Financial and has already realized hundreds of millions of dollars from the venture’s activities. Those arrangements pertain to the operating company, not to WLFI token holders.

For readers tracking the project’s history, WLFI’s path from teaser to tradability is well documented. Prior reporting on whitelisting, funding totals, ecosystem tie-ups, and the July vote covers the raise and treasury activity, the Sui partnership, and the governance vote. The through line remains a governance token with voting rights alongside a custodial stablecoin.

The novelty question, therefore, resolves to design and delivery. A governance token that gains tradability by vote is common across crypto projects, and a custodial dollar stablecoin with qualified trust custody resembles existing large issuers.

The proposed Aave deployment could create a natural venue for USD1 and begin to connect WLFI governance to visible market parameters, but until a public instance is live, there is no documented cash flow, fee share, or protocol discount that accrues to WLFI holders.

The differentiators to date are distribution and brand, not technical design. That leaves little that is new.

True novelty would require governance that directly sets parameters across integrated markets, on-chain revenue routing with verifiable attestations, or contract-level controls that make votes binding on fees, risk limits, and emissions.

None of that is live.

As delivered, WLFI matches prior patterns, a voting token, a custodial stablecoin, and a planned market.

Until a public deployment shows votes changing production settings and producing measurable holder benefits, WLFI remains an aggregation of existing parts rather than a new token design.

As of Sept. 3, the token’s concrete holder utility is the ability to vote, the stablecoin exists, and the rest is still pending execution.

Put plainly, for a market now valuing WLFI in the mid-single digit billions, the project has shipped fairly basic DeFi products, while its advertised lending market has not launched in a way users can touch.

WLFI blocks hacking attempts with onchain blacklisting https://earlybirdsinvest.com/wlfi-blocks-hacking-attempts-with-onchain-blacklisting/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/wlfi-blocks-hacking-attempts-with-onchain-blacklisting/#respond Wed, 03 Sep 2025 10:11:47 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/wlfi-blocks-hacking-attempts-with-onchain-blacklisting/

Trump-linked decentralized finance (DeFi) project World Liberty Financial (WLFI) said it blocked hacking attempts targeting its token launch by blacklisting compromised wallets onchain.

On Wednesday, WLFI said that a designated wallet executed “mass blacklisting” transactions to disable accounts identified as compromised before it launched. The team said the hacking attempts stemmed from end-user compromises like private key losses and stressed that the incidents were not an exploit of the WLFI project itself.

WLFI said the project’s blacklisting efforts prevented attempts to hack its “Lockbox,” a vesting mechanism that safeguards locked token allocations for its users. “This allowed us to block the theft attempts from the Lockbox,” WLFI wrote, linking to two Etherscan transactions showing the blacklist in action.

The team added that they are working with compromised users so that they can regain access to their accounts.

Bad actors continue to target WLFI users

On Monday, World Liberty Financial unlocked 24.6 billion WLFI tokens as it opened trading for the first time. Since then, hackers and scammers have attempted to profit from the event, targeting users and the project.

Analytics firm Bubblemaps identified “bundled clones,” which are look-alike smart contracts that imitate the project. This aims to trick unsuspecting users into engaging with fake contracts instead of legitimate ones and steal their crypto.

Yu Xian, the founder of security company SlowMist, reported that some WLFI holders are being drained of their tokens through a known exploit using the Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP)-7702 upgrade.

Xian said WLFI holders are being drained using a “classic EIP-7702 phishing exploit.” He explained that bad actors plant hacker-controlled addresses in victim wallets, allowing them to snatch the tokens when a deposit is made.

EIP-7702 upgrade opens offchain attack vector

In May, Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade introduced EIP-7702, which allowed externally owned accounts to temporarily act like smart contract wallets. This enabled the delegation of execution rights and allowed batch transactions, with the goal of streamlining user experience.

However, while the upgrade’s goal was to enhance user experience, security experts identified a new attack vector that could allow hackers to drain funds using only an offchain signature.

Solidity smart contract auditor Arda Usman previously told Cointelegraph that it’s possible for attackers to drain user funds with only an offchain signed message with no direct onchain transaction being signed.

The recent debut of the World Liberty Financial token (WLFI) in the cryptocurrency market has generated considerable buzz, despite facing notable price retracements within just 24 hours of trading.

Despite WLFI’s 25% price retrace in the 24-hour time frame, one market analyst believes that the cryptocurrency has the potential to emerge as this year’s “cult coin,” with significant price potential for the remainder of the bull cycle.

Could WLFI Soar 330% In 2025?

In a detailed post on X (formerly Twitter), analyst Virtual Bacon drew comparisons to previously called cult coins, such as XRP in 2017 and Dogecoin (DOGE) in 2021, suggesting that WLFI could follow a similar price trajectory in 2025.

Related Reading

The circulating supply of WLFI currently stands at 24.6 billion tokens, with approximately 6.9% actively tradable. A key point raised by Bacon is the transparent unlock schedule for various stakeholder tokens.

While 20% of the supply is designated for public sale investors and 2.8% is allocated for liquidity and exchanges, the team and investor tokens remain locked. This contrasts with the circumstances surrounding other tokens which experienced a dramatic crash due to a high fully diluted valuation (FDV) and a limited float.

Bacon argues that WLFI’s model is healthier, featuring a fair distribution of liquidity across exchanges and gradual unlocks that mitigate the risks associated with sudden price drops.

Notably, the analyst’s price target for WLFI is set at $1, which he believes would bring the token’s fully diluted valuation to $100 billion and its market cap to $24.6 billion.

WLFI

As of this writing, the cryptocurrency is trading at $0.23. That potential scenario could mean a 330% price increase. That could also propel the token toward 11th place among the top cryptocurrencies, positioning it alongside Chainlink (LINK) and Cardano (ADA).

Catalysts That Could Drive Token Growth And Market Surge

Virtual Bacon also addressed comparisons to the TRUMP memecoin launched earlier this year, acknowledging that while WLFI may eventually face an 80% drop like many altcoins, it is fundamentally different.

Unlike TRUMP, which experienced a rapid ascent beyond $70 before entering a major downtrend, the analyst notes that WLFI boasts “real integrations,” ties to US Treasuries, and institutional backing.

Related Reading

Virtual Bacon identified key catalysts that could drive WLFI’s growth. These include the development of a retail app for and payment solutions, a lending and borrowing platform, and the anticipation of a social media post from President Donald Trump regarding WLFI, which could significantly boost its visibility and market activity.

The analyst also mentioned that interest in the recently launched cryptocurrency has outperformed that of major altcoins, such as Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL), which he believes indicates a potential cult following that could drive liquidity.

Ultimately, Virtual Bacon argues that WLFI’s fair tokenomics, transparent supply structure, strong institutional support, and growing retail momentum position it favorably for the future and strong performance in the upcoming months.

Donald Trump’s crypto initiative, World Liberty Financial, went live on Sept. 1 with a market valuation above $7.4 billion, sparking heavy trading in its opening hours.

According to CoinMarketCap data, WLFI climbed 13% to $0.2525 shortly after launch, while its trading volume has already surpassed $1.8 billion across centralized and decentralized exchanges.

Notably, this rush of activity spilled over into the broader market.

According to Milk Road data, Ethereum gas fees, which hovered near zero before the token’s debut, surged to more than 60 gwei as traders competed to settle WLFI transactions on the chain.

This spike highlighted how much interest the Trump-linked token has generated among retail traders and institutions.

WLFI token

In a Sept.1 blog post, the World Liberty Financial team stated that the launch introduced more than 24.6 billion WLFI into circulation.

Out of this supply, about 10 billion tokens were retained by the project’s parent company, World Liberty Financial, Inc. Another 7.78 billion tokens were assigned to Alt5 Sigma Corporation, giving it close to eight percent of the total supply as part of its treasury strategy.

Nearly 2.9 billion tokens were directed toward exchange activity to maintain liquidity and support early marketing. At the same time, more than 4 billion were distributed to public sale participants with an initial 20 percent unlocked at launch.

The team stated that the remaining 76 billion tokens are “subject to vesting schedules or are otherwise locked.” These tokens belong to its strategic partners, the project’s team, and its treasury.

Trump Jr. framed the token as central to the project’s long-term mission, emphasizing that WLFI is designed as a governance layer rather than a speculative instrument.

Meanwhile, Tron founder Justin Sun, who publicly aligned himself with the project, reinforced this position by pledging not to sell his unlocked holdings.

He also announced that to mark the launch, USD1 circulation on Tron would expand to $200 million, linking the success of WLFI with broader stablecoin growth on his blockchain.
