Despite a brief pause in its trajectory, institutional appetite for Ethereum remains strong. In fact, a whopping $342 million worth of ETH has left a prominent cryptocurrency exchange.

Such movements of funds are typically expected to have a bullish impact on ETH’s price.

Supply Tightens

According to an update shared by Lookonchain, in just the past 10 hours, four newly created wallets withdrew a total of 78,229 ETH (which is worth approximately $342 million) from Kraken. Such large-scale movements from exchanges often signal that institutions are moving assets into cold storage, which reflects a long-term bullish stance.

Rising institutional accumulation reflects increasing faith in ETH’s long-term prospects as it trades above $4,430. By withdrawing significant amounts from exchanges, these investors limit circulating supply, thereby creating tighter liquidity conditions that could drive ETH prices higher if demand persists.

Amid these significant withdrawals, market experts are turning to technical indicators for clues on ETH’s next move.

Popular crypto analyst Ali Martinez, for one, observed that Ethereum is poised for a significant move, as he pointed to a Bollinger Bands squeeze as a technical setup for heightened volatility.

Meanwhile, another market commentator, Ted Pillows, stressed the importance of key price levels: a daily close above $4,500 could open the door for a new all-time high, while a rejection at this resistance might push Ethereum down to the $4,000-$4,100 range.

It is also important to note that Ethereum has surged ahead of Bitcoin across multiple fronts. Since early August, ETH captured 32.9% of spot market share versus BTC’s 32.6%, and even peaked at 41% in late August with $480 billion in spot volume. Futures momentum has been equally strong as it hit a record $3.08 trillion. Institutional appetite also remains high, with ETH ETFs drawing $10 billion in inflows this year and AUM reaching $25 billion.

But not all signals are aligned, as broader market data suggest Ethereum may face underlying pressures. Structural pressures remain that could temper ETH’s upward momentum.

Ethereum At a Crossroads

Matrixport’s recent report revealed that treasury companies have gone quiet and net asset values are hovering near 1, which could mean that investors are reluctant to pay a premium for these shares. Even Bitcoin treasury companies are experiencing sharp declines in NAVs, in line with broader risk-off sentiment among crypto treasuries.

On top of that, Ethereum’s trading volumes have plunged from $122 billion to just $41 billion, while futures open interest has barely budged. This divergence helps explain why ETH prices remain relatively steady, but with volumes drying up, leveraged longs face growing pressure, especially as high funding rates make holding these positions increasingly expensive.

The report warned that even a potential bullish catalyst, such as recent US inflation data or the upcoming FOMC meeting, may not fully offset the risks posed by thinning liquidity.

$2.4 Million Vanishes from Bunni DEX in Targeted Liquidity Exploit https://earlybirdsinvest.com/2-4-million-vanishes-from-bunni-dex-in-targeted-liquidity-exploit/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/2-4-million-vanishes-from-bunni-dex-in-targeted-liquidity-exploit/#respond Tue, 02 Sep 2025 18:28:59 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/2-4-million-vanishes-from-bunni-dex-in-targeted-liquidity-exploit/

A recent exploit has forced decentralized exchange Bunni to pause its smart contracts after a vulnerability allowed an attacker to take around $2.4 million in stablecoins.

Security researchers reviewing blockchain records confirmed that the loss occurred due to a flaw in how Bunni calculates liquidity distribution.

The incident was confirmed by the Bunni team on X on September 2, where they announced the shutdown of all smart contract activity across supported blockchains while the situation is under review.

$91M in Bitcoin Vanishes in Social Engineering Heist: Funds Already on the Move https://earlybirdsinvest.com/91m-in-bitcoin-vanishes-in-social-engineering-heist-funds-already-on-the-move/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/91m-in-bitcoin-vanishes-in-social-engineering-heist-funds-already-on-the-move/#respond Sat, 23 Aug 2025 23:01:09 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/91m-in-bitcoin-vanishes-in-social-engineering-heist-funds-already-on-the-move/

Social engineering scams have proved to be one of the damaging attack vectors in crypto, which are capable of bypassing technical defenses and draining platforms or users of staggering sums.

In the latest development, a victim lost 783 Bitcoin, worth approximately $91 million, in such an attack.

Hackers Impersonate Wallet Support

Prominent on-chain investigator ZachXBT reported that the attackers impersonated both exchange and hardware wallet customer support. Blockchain data shows the thief has already laundered the stolen funds through the privacy-focused Bitcoin wallet Wasabi.

The incident coincidentally occurred on the one-year anniversary of the $243 million Genesis Creditor theft.

ZachXBT explained that large-scale breaches have left massive amounts of personal information exposed online, which makes it easier for threat actors to exploit victims. By leveraging these data leaks, attackers can convincingly impersonate exchange or wallet support, gain trust, and ultimately carry out such scams.

When asked by a community member how one can avoid falling victim to social engineering, ZachXBT offered a blunt but practical piece of advice: treat every call or email as a potential scam by default.

Social Engineering: A Dominant Attack Vector

TRM Labs recently highlighted the growing dominance of social engineering in crypto-related thefts. The firm found that the first half of 2025 witnessed a record $2.1 billion stolen through hacks and exploits. Over 80% of losses were tied to infrastructure intrusions such as compromised private keys and seed phrases, which were often made possible through social engineering tactics or insider threats.

The average hack size also doubled compared to 2024, as it hit $30 million during the same period. TRM noted that the Bybit incident in February, attributed to North Korean state-sponsored actors, was the largest crypto hack in history, as it accounted for nearly 70% of total losses. Beyond that mega theft, dozens of other attacks occurred in January, April, and May, with several exceeding $100 million each.

Satoshi vanishes for a second time as Swiss gallery offers 0.1 BTC to recover stolen statue https://earlybirdsinvest.com/satoshi-vanishes-for-a-second-time-as-swiss-gallery-offers-0-1-btc-to-recover-stolen-statue/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/satoshi-vanishes-for-a-second-time-as-swiss-gallery-offers-0-1-btc-to-recover-stolen-statue/#respond Mon, 04 Aug 2025 04:17:32 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/satoshi-vanishes-for-a-second-time-as-swiss-gallery-offers-0-1-btc-to-recover-stolen-statue/

The Bitcoin art world has suffered a blow as the enigmatic statue of Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, has vanished from its current home in Lugano, Switzerland. The Satoshigallery, which curated and displayed the piece, has announced a reward of 0.1 BTC to anyone who can help recover the stolen statue, further deepening the mystery that shrouds both Satoshi Nakamoto and this distinctive work of art.

The Satoshigallery team took to X following the theft to offer a reward for its recovery and to reinforce its determination to place 21 Satoshi statues around the world. This mission is meant to echo Bitcoin’s 21 million coin limit, reinforcing the principles of scarcity, decentralization, and indestructibility. The gallery wrote:

“You can steal our symbol but you will never be able to steal our souls.”

Embodying the spirit of Satoshi Nakamoto

The statue was celebrated not just as a physical memorial, but for its conceptual brilliance. Designed to embody the spirit of Bitcoin’s elusive creator, the piece plays with perception and meaning, appearing invisible from the front, a clever nod to Nakamoto’s anonymity.

When viewed from the side, the form emerges, reminding viewers that Satoshi may be hidden, but always present within Bitcoin’s ethos, capturing how Nakamoto’s indelible impact remains at the very core of the crypto movement.

Support from the Bitcoin community

Messages of support have poured in from around the world, with members of the Bitcoin community expressing solidarity. For many, the statue is more than just art; it is a symbol of resilience, innovation, and the ongoing quest for financial sovereignty.

Tuur Demeester, Blockstream advisor and Bitcoin OG, commented:

“Very sad… Next one should maybe be in a few cubics of granite”

Founder of TIP Preston Pysh simply said:

“Even his statue disappears…”

As the search continues, the story of Satoshi (the person and the statue) reaffirms that some mysteries, in the digital age, only grow stronger with every attempt to erase them.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the statue of Satoshi Nakamoto is encouraged to contact the Satoshigallery team.

BigONE

$893.05M

, a cryptocurrency exchange, has confirmed it was targeted in an external attack that led to $27 million being taken from one of its hot wallets.

The incident was discovered on July 16 after its system flagged unusual fund transfers.

After looking into the issue, BigONE said the cause was a third party gaining access to its online wallet system.

BigONE stated that while the breach allowed access to certain wallet functions, the platform’s private keys were not exposed, and the path used to carry out the attack has been blocked.

The exchange has drawn on its emergency reserve assets, which include Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, Solana, and Mixin. These funds are being used to make sure affected users do not lose money.

According to SlowMist, the stolen assets included 120 BTC, 350 ETH, several million USDT from multiple chains, and other tokens like CELR, SNT, and SHIB. The firm is currently tracking the wallet addresses used by the attacker to see where the stolen crypto goes.

A separate update from Cyvers explained how the attacker managed to gain access to BigONE’s production system and modify the servers’ functionality. This allowed them to bypass safety measures and withdraw funds without permission.

BigONE said all users will be reimbursed in full. It also stated that normal trading and withdrawals can continue.

Michael Zidell has filed a lawsuit against Citibank for failing to notice signs of a scam that resulted in a $20 million loss.

The case was submitted in federal court in Manhattan on June 24 and centers on a romance scam that began on Facebook.

According to the complaint, Zidell was contacted in January 2023 by someone using the name “Carolyn Parker”. She claimed to be a business owner, and over time, their online conversations grew more personal.

After a few weeks, Parker was asked to invest in non-fungible tokens (NFTs). She recommended a specific platform and gave him steps to follow. Zidell agreed and began sending money to various bank accounts linked to the platform.

He was told that multiple banks were used to manage the high number of customer deposits. Zidell made 43 transfers totaling more than $20 million.

In April, the investment website had disappeared, along with all the money he had sent. Roughly $4 million of the total was directed to accounts held at Citibank under a company called Guju Inc.

Zidell said the bank allowed twelve transfers to go through without properly reviewing them. His complaint claimed that the size and pattern of the payments should have prompted further checks.

The lawsuit argued that Citibank overlooked activity that should have raised concerns. It stated that the bank did not properly monitor the account, failed to follow standard safeguards, and allowed suspicious transactions to continue without questioning them.

US Tourist Drugged and Robbed in London: $123K in XRP, BTC Vanishes https://earlybirdsinvest.com/us-tourist-drugged-and-robbed-in-london-123k-in-xrp-btc-vanishes/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/us-tourist-drugged-and-robbed-in-london-123k-in-xrp-btc-vanishes/#respond Sun, 25 May 2025 01:05:04 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/us-tourist-drugged-and-robbed-in-london-123k-in-xrp-btc-vanishes/

A US software developer’s brief London layover turned into a nightmare after a suspected abduction and crypto theft left him physically injured and financially gutted.

Jacob Irwin-Cline, 30, says he was drugged by a fake Uber driver in the early hours of May 9, who allegedly used coercive tactics and a spiked cigarette to steal access to Irwin-Cline’s crypto holdings. In the process, the victim was drained of a staggering $123,000 from his digital wallets.

Drugged, Injured, and Robbed

According to a report by MyLondon, the Portland native had stepped out for drinks at The Roxy nightclub in Soho and planned to return to his Bayswater hostel shortly after 1:30 AM. But after calling a legitimate Uber through the app, a man resembling the driver’s profile pulled up in a different vehicle, a dark sedan rather than the listed Toyota Prius.

Lured by familiarity, Irwin-Cline accepted a cigarette from the driver, which he believes was laced with scopolamine, a drug known to render victims pliable and amnesic.

What followed was a blur: Irwin-Cline recalled that he intermittently lost consciousness, during which he said to had handed over passcodes, and vaguely navigated through his apps before being ejected from the vehicle. He also said that the driver struck him during the abrupt escape.

The attacker reportedly exploited Irwin-Cline’s Revolut app to access multiple crypto wallets and extracted roughly $72,000 in XRP, $50,000 in Bitcoin, and smaller altcoin amounts. The victim’s phone and laptop were both compromised – his laptop was remotely wiped, and his phone was stolen.

Despite a desperate scramble to recover his accounts, aided by a flatmate back in the US, the digital assets were gone within hours. He said he was left barely able to walk and emotionally devastated.

While he does not believe he was deliberately targeted, the attack mirrors rising cases across Europe involving so-called “wrench attacks,” where physical coercion is used to force crypto access. The Metropolitan Police and FBI cybercrime team are now investigating, but Irwin-Cline fears the odds of recovery are slim.

Physical Attacks Escalate

As the industry gains wider acceptance and popularity, there has been a worrying increase in physical assaults targeting individuals holding Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Earlier this month, a failed kidnapping attempt in Paris targeted the daughter and grandson of a prominent crypto executive. Masked attackers ambushed the family during a school drop-off but fled after the couple resisted, with one attacker’s gun later revealed to be a replica. The incident, caught on camera, adds to a string of violent crypto-related crimes in France. Victims were confirmed to be relatives of Paymium CEO Pierre Noizat.

Previous attacks include a kidnapped crypto millionaire’s father and a ransom assault on Ledger’s co-founder, both involving mutilation.
