President Trump’s CFTC chair nominee Brian Quintenz alleged that Tyler Winklevoss attempted to derail his confirmation after Quintenz refused to promise favorable treatment regarding the exchange’s past litigation with the commission.

According to private text messages released by Quintenz on Sept. 10, Winklevoss shared Gemini’s 13-page complaint against the CFTC Inspector General in a July 2025 exchange.

He claimed the agency pursued “dubious false statements charges” and “selectively and unfairly weaponized” enforcement against the company.

Winklevoss described seven years of “lawfare trophy hunting” by the commission in the leaked messages.

Transparency claims

Winklevoss questioned why the CFTC sued Gemini rather than “parties that defrauded us of $10mil” or CBOE. He also questioned why the commission continued pursuing Gemini “after it knew its investigation was started based on a false whistleblower.”

Quintenz consistently refused to make specific commitments, stating that “any decision or response to your complaint should be made by and given the full weight of the confirmed chair.”

He committed only to addressing matters “fully and fairly if and when I am confirmed,” while emphasizing the importance of proper process.

Winklevoss then expressed disappointment that Quintenz hadn’t reviewed their complaint despite previous discussions.

Additionally, the Gemini co-founder stressed that “cultural reform, which includes rectifying what happened to us, should be the highest priority” and urged Quintenz to align with President Donald Trump’s mandate to end regulatory warfare.

Quintenz explained his approach of waiting for confirmation before forming judgments. He added that he decided “to wait until I can get into the role to get that view as opposed to trying to get it now through current leadership.”

He described having “a very poor experience with that on every important issue or decision so far” when dealing with existing commission staff.

The message release comes two days before Gemini’s planned IPO on Sept. 12.

Quintenz claimed that Winklevoss contacted Trump in an effort to pause his confirmation for undisclosed reasons following their exchange.

He added that he disclosed the discussions with Winklevoss to protect the President from misinformation and demonstrate his commitment to transparency over personal advancement.

Eric Trump scaling back role at crypto firm ALT5 Sigma https://earlybirdsinvest.com/eric-trump-scaling-back-role-at-crypto-firm-alt5-sigma/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/eric-trump-scaling-back-role-at-crypto-firm-alt5-sigma/#respond Tue, 09 Sep 2025 22:06:02 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/eric-trump-scaling-back-role-at-crypto-firm-alt5-sigma/

Eric Trump, a son of US President Donald Trump, may no longer be a board member of investment company ALT5 Sigma as part of a deal with World Liberty Financial.

According to an Aug. 25 filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), ALT5 Sigma designated Eric Trump and World Liberty Financial co-founder Zach Folkman as board observers rather than members.

The company reported that Trump’s position was “in order to comply with Nasdaq’s listing rules” and was still subject to approval by stockholders.

The filing appeared to contradict earlier notices that Trump had joined the board. In an Aug. 11 announcement, ALT5 Sigma said it would raise $1.5 billion for World Liberty Financial’s corporate treasury — a deal that included Trump becoming a director on the board. At time of publication, he was listed as a board director on ALT5 Sigma’s website.

ALT5 Sigma is a Nasdaq-listed fintech company that provides crypto infrastructure services. It originally operated under the name JanOne, a biotech-focused company, before rebranding in mid-2024 to focus on digital assets.

According to SEC filings, ALT5 Sigma received $750 million worth of WLFI tokens from the crypto company, one million shares, and “pre-funded warrants” to purchase up to an additional 99 million shares as part of the deal.

Cointelegraph reached out to ALT5 Sigma and World Liberty Financial for comment, but had not received a response at time of publication.

Zach Witkoff, the son of the US president’s Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and another World Liberty Financial co-founder, was listed as chairman of the ALT5 Sigma board.

The US President’s ties to crypto ventures are increasing his family’s wealth

Since Trump took office in January, his family’s wealth has increased by potentially billions of dollars through crypto ventures such as World Liberty Financial, his personal memecoin, Official Trump (TRUMP), his family-backed mining company American Bitcoin and deals through Trump Media and Technology Group, the parent company of the Truth Social platform.

In the last eight days, shares of American Bitcoin began trading on the Nasdaq, and World Liberty unlocked 24.6 billion WLFI tokens — a move that gave the Trump family’s token stake a valuation of about $5 billion at the time.

World Liberty is facing scrutiny from some users who claimed the company locked up their tokens due to “high risk” from their crypto wallets.

Tron founder Justin Sun, one of the company’s biggest backers, reported on Thursday that World Liberty had blacklisted his wallet address after transferring 50 million WLFI tokens to cryptocurrency exchange HTX. One WLFI user has proposed opening up the matter to a governance vote.

$513M in Major Token Unlocks Coming This Week: APT, SOL, TRUMP Lead the Pack https://earlybirdsinvest.com/513m-in-major-token-unlocks-coming-this-week-apt-sol-trump-lead-the-pack/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/513m-in-major-token-unlocks-coming-this-week-apt-sol-trump-lead-the-pack/#respond Tue, 09 Sep 2025 03:32:15 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/513m-in-major-token-unlocks-coming-this-week-apt-sol-trump-lead-the-pack/

A wave of digital asset supply is set to enter the market, potentially testing buyer appetite across the crypto landscape.

According to the Tokenomist website, major projects will unlock more than $513 million in tokens between September 8 and 15.

Key Unlocks and Market Backdrop

Solana (SOL) will release 502,930 SOL worth almost $104 million. It’s only 0.09% of the supply, but it comes at a time when the asset is trying to stay near $210 after rising more than 15% since early August.

The recently approved Alpenglow upgrade, which cuts transaction finality from 12.8 seconds to less than 200 milliseconds, has also gotten developers interested and made people feel more positive about the SOL market.

Traders should also keep an eye on Aptos, which is set to deploy 11.31 million of its native APT token, worth just over $48 million. The #51-ranked cryptocurrency has been slowly rising, adding 3.1% to its value in the past week to reach $4.33. However, it is still down almost 10% in the past month.

Connex (CONX), on the other hand, has to unlock $38.76 million in the middle of recent market problems. In the past week, the token lost almost 5% of its value, while in the last month, it dipped by more than 30%.

At the same time, Starknet will also distribute 127 million of its STRK tokens. At the time of this writing, the Layer 2 validity rollup had a market cap of about $513 million and was down 3.4% over the week. It is also 97% below its all-time high achieved in 2024.

While some market watchers think that these weaker performers may be especially sensitive to sudden supply increases, Story Protocol’s IP token has gone against the trend. It went up more than 10% in the last week, reaching a new all-time high of $8.88 a few hours ago, just in time for the injection of 2.32 million tokens worth more than $20 million into the market.

Dogecoin and Official Trump

Unlock dynamics often connect with bigger stories in the crypto world. For example, Dogecoin (DOGE) is about to release $21.82 million worth of tokens over the next several days, with the prospect of a new investment product tied to the OG meme coin drawing ever nearer.

Eric Balchunas, an analyst at Bloomberg, says that ETF issuer REX Shares will launch the first DOGE exchange-traded fund as soon as next week. The asset has also risen by more than 8% in the last month, thanks in part to an announcement by Nebraska-based CleanCore of a $175 million private placement to build a DOGE treasury.

The Official Trump (TRUMP) token is also scheduled to drop coins worth $41.37 million over the next seven days. This latest allocation coincides with a recent report in the Wall Street Journal, which said that the Trump family’s investments in World Liberty Financial (WLFI) and TRUMP now make up the biggest part of their paper net worth after briefly reaching $6 billion.

From Jamie Dimon to Donald Trump: Why everyone eventually understands Bitcoin https://earlybirdsinvest.com/from-jamie-dimon-to-donald-trump-why-everyone-eventually-understands-bitcoin/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/from-jamie-dimon-to-donald-trump-why-everyone-eventually-understands-bitcoin/#respond Sun, 07 Sep 2025 02:20:51 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/from-jamie-dimon-to-donald-trump-why-everyone-eventually-understands-bitcoin/

It may take a minute to get to grips with magic internet money, but once you see the scarcity, durability, and predictability, it somehow all falls into place. From Jamie Dimon to Donald Trump, eventually everyone understands Bitcoin.

Eventually everyone understands Bitcoin

Anthony Pompliano summed it up best, against an image of some high-profile personalities, including Donald Trump, Jamie Dimon, and Jerome Powell, who have changed their tune on the number-one coin. He said:

“Eventually everyone understands bitcoin.”

In the beginning, the idea of a decentralized digital currency was met with skepticism, derision, and sometimes outright hostility. Yet, as the years have passed, some of the world’s most influential voices from Wall Street to Washington have changed their tunes, making Bitcoin’s journey from a fringe obsession to a mainstream asset nothing short of historic.

Eventually, everyone understands Bitcoin
Eventually, everyone understands Bitcoin

Titans of finance: changing their minds

Take Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMorgan Chase. In 2017, he called Bitcoin a “fraud,” threatened to fire employees who traded it, and warned of government crackdowns. Fast-forward to the present, JPMorgan offers Bitcoin exposure to clients and Dimon regularly attends crypto panels. He’s critical of specifics, but his institution is deeply entrenched in blockchain finance.

BlackRock CEO Larry Fink went from calling Bitcoin “an index of money laundering” to overseeing the world’s largest asset manager issuing a Bitcoin ETF and publicly referring to it as “digital gold.” Fink’s pivot stunned markets and signaled a shift in how legacy finance regards the new digital economy.

Jerome Powell, Chair of the Federal Reserve, was also skeptical about crypto for years. Yet under his watch, the Fed now closely monitors Bitcoin, citing its relevance to global markets and even a “competitor to gold.”

Politicians and power players

Donald Trump once dismissed Bitcoin as being highly volatile and based on thin air. But by 2024, Trump was reportedly courting crypto donors and acknowledging Bitcoin’s increasing significance, reflecting the asset’s growing political clout.

Michael Saylor, now synonymous with Bitcoin advocacy, wasn’t always a maximalist. Before 2020, Saylor publicly doubted Bitcoin’s longevity, calling its days “numbered” as far back as 2013. Now, his company MicroStrategy holds more BTC than any other publicly traded firm (over 636,000 coins) and Saylor has personally become its most famous evangelist.

And Mark Cuban spent years calling Bitcoin no different from bananas and raising doubts about its utility. Today, he’s an active participant in the crypto and NFT ecosystems, holding Bitcoin and advising blockchain companies. In other words? Eventually, everyone understands Bitcoin.

Governments join the fold

If the world’s biggest names can change their minds, so can entire governments. According to the Visual Capitalist, the United States is now the largest holder of Bitcoin, with China following closely.

Bitcoin holdings (Source: Visual Capitalist)
Bitcoin holdings (Source: Visual Capitalist)

These holdings are often the result of law enforcement seizures or strategic mining, but the fact remains: global governments hold thousands (sometimes hundreds of thousands) of bitcoins, quietly shifting from outright bans to accumulation and research.

Bitcoin’s path to mainstream acceptance has been paved with resistance and then recognition. Whether driven by economic imperatives, technological curiosity, or simply the fear of missing out, figures like Jamie Dimon and Donald Trump have finally come to the same realization: Bitcoin is here, and it is inevitable; even governments now hold Bitcoin as part of their strategic reserves.

What was once met with skepticism and doubt is now universally accepted at the highest level, proving Pompliano right that, despite the resistance, eventually everyone understands Bitcoin.

Millions bet President Donald Trump is NOT DEAD as Polymarket resignation odds stay under 1% https://earlybirdsinvest.com/millions-bet-president-donald-trump-is-not-dead-as-polymarket-resignation-odds-stay-under-1/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/millions-bet-president-donald-trump-is-not-dead-as-polymarket-resignation-odds-stay-under-1/#respond Tue, 02 Sep 2025 13:22:38 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/millions-bet-president-donald-trump-is-not-dead-as-polymarket-resignation-odds-stay-under-1/

Polymarket contracts price less than a 1% chance that President Donald Trump will resign today, as traders position into a 2 P.M. ET Oval Office announcement reported by multiple outlets citing a White House advisory.

The Oval Office announced the planned appearance, though the topic was not disclosed. According to his schedule, Trump spent Labor Day golfing with no public appearances, and his day ended at 5:39 P.M. ET.

Trading around Trump’s tenure and health has drawn sizable volume. As of early afternoon on Sept. 2, a same-day “resign today” market on Polymarket showed <1% odds with roughly $1 million traded, based on live market boards shared with CryptoSlate.

Broader timeframes price low single-digit probabilities: the year-end contract “Will Trump resign in 2025?” traded near 6%, while “Trump removed via 25th Amendment in 2025?” sat near 7%.

Amid a near-record low approval rate of 44% and a -7.6% net approval, a separate contract resolves on Trump’s polling floor, “How low will Trump’s approval rating go in 2025?,” priced a 40% approval or lower outcome at about 19%, with resolution tied to Nate Silver’s Silver Bulletin aggregator.

Market rules frame why odds cluster at the low end.

The resignation market pays out on an announcement alone by Dec. 31, 2025, irrespective of the effective date, per Polymarket’s rule set for the 2025 resignation contract.

Removal via the 25th requires a successful Section 4 process, meaning a Cabinet determination sustained by two-thirds of both chambers, per the 25th Amendment market. The approval market resolves to the green trend line published by Silver Bulletin.

Trading flurry follows online speculation about Trump’s health.

The White House disclosed on July 17 that the president was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency after leg swelling, with testing ruling out deep-vein thrombosis and cardiac issues, per an official physician memorandum posted by The White House.

Viral claims that Trump has “six to eight months to live” have been surfacing online based on “internet doctors’” assessment of the bruises on his hands. However, on Monday, Trump was reportedly photographed golfing near Washington, D.C., which added a fresh data point against “missing from public view” narratives, as People reported from the press pool.

In odd timing (for those indulging in conspiracy theory), VP J.D. Vance recently asserted that he is ready to be President should anything happen to Trump. Some have also claimed the images of Trump from this weekend are either a lookalike, fake, old, or show the president in very frail shape.

By 2 P.M. today, much of the social media weekend Zeitgeist will be solved, and millions will be paid out to those betting on the outcome via crypto’s always-present Polymarket prediction markets.

Rumor-driven markets can move fast, then mean-revert when new reporting lands. Today’s setup centers on the Oval Office announcement window and whether it alters the information environment that underpins these contracts.

Until that catalyst arrives, Polymarket’s same-day resignation line remains priced as a tail event, and the year-end resignation and removal contracts trade in the single digits.

California gov Gavin Newsom to launch memecoin to continue ‘trolling’ Trump https://earlybirdsinvest.com/california-gov-gavin-newsom-to-launch-memecoin-to-continue-trolling-trump/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/california-gov-gavin-newsom-to-launch-memecoin-to-continue-trolling-trump/#respond Tue, 02 Sep 2025 06:19:01 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/california-gov-gavin-newsom-to-launch-memecoin-to-continue-trolling-trump/

California Governor Gavin Newsom said he will intensify his attacks on President Donald Trump by launching a memecoin and expanding a wave of social media posts designed to parody the former president’s online persona, NBC Los Angeles reported.

The governor made the revelations during a recent appearance as a guest co-host on the “Pivot” podcast with journalist Kara Swisher.

He said he launched the initiative to highlight what he called the absurdity of Trump’s online persona, including the President’s frequent use of capital letters and AI-generated images depicting himself as a superhero.

Newsom said the coin, slated to be called “Trump Corruption,” will fund his Campaign for Democracy and redistricting efforts. He added that the project is part satire but reflects deep concerns about the state of U.S. democracy.

‘Trump Corruption Coin’

Newsom said that his Trump Corruption Coin is aimed at countering Trump-related digital assets, including the official TRUMP token. He added that the proceeds will be directed toward his Campaign for Democracy, which will fund redistricting efforts and grassroots organizing.

He joked that his original idea was to name the coin “Smelt,” a nod to reports about Trump’s personal fragrance. He added that if he decided to mimic the President further, he might even crowdsource names for a perfume line.

Despite the satirical edge, Newsom framed the project as a serious warning about democratic backsliding, adding to concerns raised by Democrats over Trump’s digital ventures.

The governor also expressed confidence that his meme coin would outperform Trump’s, recalling a previous White House exchange in which Trump bragged about profits from his coin and his wife, Melania’s, venture into the same market.

Gloves-off approach

Newsom said his gloves-off approach emerged after months of attempts to cooperate with Trump’s administration over federal disaster aid. However, he shifted course when Trump deployed National Guard troops and Marines to Los Angeles to back aggressive immigration raids.

He said the moment was a turning point for him and recalled directing his staff to abandon restraint and adopt an unrelenting strategy of public confrontation.

The Democratic governor, who is widely seen as a presumptive presidential candidate, said Americans should expect more trolling and social media barbs in the months ahead.

With the presidential race looming, Newsom’s blend of satire and digital campaigning signaled that the battle between Trump and his Democratic challengers is expanding into new political and financial arenas.

The Trump family’s cryptocurrency token, World Liberty Financial, stumbled on its first day of trading, erasing early gains and showing the immediate losses faced by investors.

WLFI, the governance token of the decentralized finance platform launched last year, began trading above $0.30 on Monday before sliding to $0.24, according to CoinGecko. That represented a more than 15% drop from intraday peaks.

The decline left WLFI with a market capitalization just below $7b, ranking it as the 31st largest cryptocurrency in circulation. Several of the world’s biggest exchanges, including Binance, OKX and Bybit, listed the token at launch, drawing immediate attention from traders.

Early Investors Allowed To Sell Up To 20% Of Holdings

The launch followed a July vote by investors to make WLFI tradable. Until then, the tokens functioned only as governance instruments, giving holders the right to weigh in on code changes and business adjustments. Early investors are permitted to sell up to 20% of their holdings, the company said.

That first 20% unlock, estimated at 3b to 5b tokens sold at presale prices of $0.015 and $0.05, triggered a wave of selling. The pressure tempered excitement from the debut and weighed on prices despite strong speculative demand.

According to the project’s official blog, 24.6b tokens were made available at the time of launch.

The Trump Factor: Driving Investor Interest

Trading activity was robust. Spot volumes hit $2.25b while derivatives turnover surged to between $3b and $8b, reflecting heavy positioning across futures platforms. Pre-market trading on venues such as Hyperliquid and Binance Futures had already signalled turbulence, with WLFI changing hands between $0.30 and $0.56.

Since its inception last year, World Liberty Financial has reportedly generated around $500m for the Trump family. The platform also issues a stablecoin and has been marketed as a gateway for retail investors into decentralized finance.

For early backers, the main attraction was the Trump name. Many said they believed the token’s value would rise on the strength of that connection rather than its technical design. The tradable launch gave them the first real chance to test that assumption in open markets.

World Liberty’s debut drew political scrutiny as well. Democratic lawmakers and ethics experts have warned that the Trump family’s crypto ventures raise conflicts of interest, given the president’s influence over digital asset regulation.

Influencer Trades Add To Speculative Frenzy Around WLFI

Traders also followed the token’s celebrity exposure. Blockchain analytics platform Lookonchain reported
that influencer Andrew Tate’s WLFI long was liquidated for a $67,500 loss Tuesday. Soon after, he re-entered the market with a new long. This move shows the highly speculative mood surrounding the token.

WLFI’s circulating supply at launch was limited to about 4% to 6.8% of the total, intensifying volatility. The combination of a constrained float, political ties and future unlocks has left market sentiment cautious despite heavy trading volumes.

The launch marked one of the most closely watched token debuts of the year. Its rocky first session showed the Trump brand’s drawing power and the risks of tying political capital to a speculative market.

Covid vaccines: Trump administration trying to undo the medical miracle https://earlybirdsinvest.com/covid-vaccines-trump-administration-trying-to-undo-the-medical-miracle/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/covid-vaccines-trump-administration-trying-to-undo-the-medical-miracle/#respond Sun, 31 Aug 2025 15:31:34 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/covid-vaccines-trump-administration-trying-to-undo-the-medical-miracle/

In his first term, President Donald Trump touted the “medical miracle” of the mRNA Covid-19 vaccine that he helped deliver to market through the unprecedented public-private partnership known as Operation Warp Speed.

In its second term, the Trump administration is dismantling the signature health achievement of his first term by sowing doubt about the safety and efficacy of the Covid-19 vaccine. The president is taking steps to make the vaccine more difficult for the public to receive and for pharmaceutical companies to bring new mRNA vaccines to market.

Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been a critic and skeptic of vaccines for years, linking them to autism and other disorders without scientific evidence.

Now, Kennedy is canceling grants to develop more mRNA vaccines, which are also being explored for treating the flu, HIV, and cancer.

He fired all 17 members of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Covid-19 immunization workgroup, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), and replaced them with vaccine skeptics. He removed Covid-19 vaccines from the list of shots recommended for healthy pregnant women and children, which means insurance companies will likely no longer pay for them. The Daily Beast reports that the Trump administration is planning to pull the vaccine from shelves “within months,” citing a close associate of Kennedy’s.

Today, Explained co-host Sean Ramewaram spoke with Katherine Wu, staff writer for The Atlantic, about what this means for Americans’ ability to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

Below is an excerpt of their conversation, edited for length and clarity. There’s much more in the full podcast, so listen to Today, Explained wherever you get podcasts, including Apple Podcasts, Pandora, and Spotify.

What is the secretary of health and human services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., doing right now with mRNA vaccines?

Probably the latest and biggest news is that he canceled half a billion dollars’ worth of grants to develop more mRNA vaccines. The public is probably most familiar with mRNA vaccines in the context of Covid vaccines. That’s the first place we had successful mRNA vaccines, and that is still where mRNA vaccines dominate the market, but they’ve been in development for tons of other diseases, not just infectious ones, for a very long time. So this is a pretty huge deal.

Remind me who was president when the Covid mRNA vaccine was developed?

Also Trump, just during his first term, not this one.

Oh, weird. How has President Trump advanced his campaign to inoculate and protect Americans with mRNA vaccines in his second term so far?

He hasn’t. During the first term, Trump was the one who helped push forward Operation Warp Speed, that big partnership between government and pharma that got us all of these amazing Covid vaccines in record time, and helped us beat back this pandemic that killed so many people. And so far, this shining beacon from Trump’s first term is being systematically ripped apart. We’ve already talked about how Trump’s administration has pulled funding for development of more mRNA vaccines. You would think that we want to build on that success. Not so much. But they’ve also started to strip away Americans’ access to Covid vaccines. They have removed or altered recommendations to get Covid vaccines in certain groups. They’ve made it harder for vaccine makers to get new Covid vaccines to market, and a lot of the new hires and advisors to the Department of Health and Human Services are taking aim at other Covid vaccine recommendations that could restrict access even further. I think it’s very realistic that within a year or two, very few people will be able to get Covid vaccines, even when they want and need them.

We were all there when the Covid vaccines came out, and the president, I believe, was among the first to get them. They were touted as a miracle of medical science. How is that narrative being rewritten right now?

Yeah, it’s fascinating, right? Trump himself used that phrase, medical miracle. And there’s no scientific reason that he should have stopped believing that. The data on these vaccines has not changed. They’re very safe, very effective. They went through all the normal channels of vetting that get us safe, effective vaccines. But right now in his second term, Trump is leading an administration that is mostly pushing out information that these vaccines are dubious. They don’t work. And largely, this whole system is corrupt. All the people that recommended these vaccines have conflicts of interest and they’re in the pocket of industry, and basically the government is working to restrict access to these vaccines so they don’t hurt as many Americans as they could. He said they don’t work against respiratory viruses, which is not true.

Studies have shown that they saved millions of lives during the pandemic, and they continue to protect people for everyone who was receiving them. He said that they were the deadliest vaccine ever made. There’s no evidence to support that. They have done quite the opposite. And he’s cast doubt on the idea that they were studied thoroughly and carefully vetted by expert scientists who knew exactly what safety signals to look for. None of that is backed up by the evidence, but it’s basically what the federal government is saying right now.

These vaccines were famously brought to market very quickly. I mean, that was part of the miracle we’re referring to here that seemed to spur a lot of these conspiracy theories about their efficacy. Was there any validity to the argument that they were produced too quickly, that there wasn’t enough testing?

I think the way you phrase your question is important, right? Because “too quickly” is about, did they arrive so quickly that there wasn’t adequate time to study them, make sure that they worked well to protect against Covid and they did so in a way that wasn’t posing undue risk to the people who receive them? And I think the answer is very soundly no. It’s important to acknowledge that all this was done on the shoulders of all the vaccine science that came before it. Scientists knew what to look for. They knew how to run these trials. They knew how to scale up their technology. And yeah, they did it in ways that were unprecedented, but not unprecedented in ways that they were shooting in the dark.

So what happens now? You were saying that you can see a future in which even people who want and need these vaccines won’t be able to get them. How far away is that?

I think there are still enough people at federal health agencies that would fight back against that, that it could be a very dragged-out fight. Stripping access to those vaccines instantaneously would also probably come under legal challenge quickly, but I think it’s something that a lot of sectors of the administration are starting to move toward.

Operation Warp Speed obviously played a huge role in developing these vaccines, but it wasn’t just an American effort by any means. If the US is falling off right now and denying the medical miracle that was, what’s the rest of the world doing? And does that mean that you could fly to Canada to get your Covid vaccine, or even get it delivered?

Man, black market international vaccines. What a world. Yeah, it’s a great question, and I think there’s a couple things to touch on here. One is that cutting off funding for mRNA vaccine development here cuts off resources for the rest of the world. The US is extremely powerful in terms of scientific firepower, money, and also, up until very recently, foreign aid. If we stop developing vaccines here, that means there are fewer resources for other countries. There’s also a chilling effect that is very likely to happen if the US says: These vaccines are crap, they’re not worth investing in, they’re not worth recommending, they’re not good enough for our people. Other countries have traditionally taken cues from the US, especially around vaccines. Other countries might look at what we’re doing and pause and be like, well, we don’t want to look weird. We don’t want to be the outliers when the US is doing this.

But are we the outliers right now? It feels like we’re the outliers.

We totally are, and I would hope that other countries look at us and then look at the UK, and be like, Okay, maybe we start following the UK. But it’s tricky, because in a landscape where these vaccines get more scarce and more expensive because the US isn’t pouring resources into developing them, those vaccines simply won’t exist or might be worse than if the US were pouring those resources in. And the US is simultaneously saying “These aren’t good enough.” It becomes an economical and almost political decision for other countries to pause a little bit more.

President Trump has taken to wearing a hat that says “Trump was right about everything.” This is a man who loves a win, and he got a huge one in 2020 with the mRNA vaccine for Covid-19. Why do you think he won’t take the win?

I suspect some of this goes back to what happened at the end of his term and what happened in the ensuing presidential term. The end of Trump’s first term was marred by the start of the pandemic. He was widely criticized for letting things get as bad as they did in the US in those early days. Even though he helped push vaccines along, that was a triumph that didn’t completely overshadow all of the other policy hiccups that made 2020 and much of 2021 horrific in this country. The pandemic could have gone much better here if there had been a much better coordinated public health response and better communication. I think a lot of Trump’s base felt angered by that, and they felt angered by a lot of early pandemic policies. They felt betrayed by the government, and I think that has soured Trump’s base on all things Covid, including vaccines.

Spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs recorded outflows on Friday as the Federal Reserve released key inflation data showing price pressures are creeping higher under President Donald Trump’s trade policies.

According to SoSoValue data, Ether (ETH) ETFs saw a net outflow of $164.64 million, reversing five straight days of inflows that had added more than $1.5 billion to the asset class.

Bitcoin (BTC) ETFs also turned negative with $126.64 million in net outflows, their first daily loss since Aug. 22. Total assets under management dropped to $28.58 billion for Ethereum and $139.95 billion for Bitcoin.

Fidelity’s FBTC recorded the steepest single-day outflow at $66.2 million among Bitcoin ETFs. ARK Invest and 21Shares’ ARKB followed with a $72.07 million net withdrawal, while Grayscale’s GBTC saw $15.3 million exit. Only a few funds posted minor inflows, with BlackRock’s IBIT gaining $24.63 million and WisdomTree’s BTCW adding $2.3 million.

Fed releases hotter-than-expected core inflation

The outflows coincided with the release of the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge, the core Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) index, which showed a 2.9% annualized rise in July, the highest since February.

The report, which matched forecasts, came amid growing evidence that Trump’s tariff regime is adding pressure on core prices by raising import costs, according to CNBC.

Trump’s White House has imposed a baseline 10% tariff on all imports and targeted additional categories through reciprocal duties. Though energy prices helped keep broader inflation in check, services jumped 3.6% year-over-year.

Despite the uptick in inflation, the market is still pricing in the likelihood of a Federal Reserve rate cut at its next meeting, particularly if labor market data shows further signs of weakness, per the CNBC report.

Ether ETFs surge as corporate treasuries fuel demand

Since their launch in July 2024, Ether spot ETFs have gained steady traction, with net inflows rising 44% in August, from $9.5 billion to $13.7 billion. Analysts attribute the growth to a rebound in institutional interest following a period of underperformance relative to Bitcoin.

Corporate treasury adoption of Ether is also accelerating. Companies now hold 4.4 million ETH, valued at over $19 billion, roughly 3.7% of total supply, according to StrategicETHReserve.

“After an extended period of underperformance relative to Bitcoin and a souring investor sentiment, Ethereum has recently experienced a significant revival in the recognition of both its adoption rate and value proposition,” Sygnum chief investment officer Fabian Dori told Cointelegraph.

is changing the way people interact with money.

He argued that, for the first time, financial opportunities are not limited by someone’s wealth or social background.

Speaking at the Bitcoin Asia conference in Hong Kong, Eric noted that traditional banking systems often favor individuals who already possess substantial financial resources.

According to him, people with large account balances often receive better terms, such as reduced loan rates or waived fees, simply because of their status or connections. He noted that this is not the case for the average person trying to access the same services.

Eric said his own background gave him access to these advantages. However, he emphasized that Bitcoin creates a space where everyone is treated equally, regardless of their financial situation or background.

He explained that someone living in a remote part of Africa could have the same access to Bitcoin as someone working on Wall Street.

He also described Bitcoin as “the greatest asset that’s arguably ever been created”, something that is becoming easier for more people to use.

Earlier in Eric’s talk, he mentioned meeting influential figures in the region and noted that big institutions, including sovereign wealth funds and Fortune 500 companies, are starting to take Bitcoin more seriously.

On August 24, Eric shared about how the Trump family has their interest in cryptocurrency. What did he say? Read the full story.
