Bitcoin’s greatness isn’t measured only by its price or market cycles, and its true strength lies deeper. As one crypto pundit explains, it lies in the alignment of incentives that keeps the network secure and the loyalty of holders who refuse to sell in the face of volatility. This combination of economic design and cultural conviction has allowed Bitcoin to weather every storm, proving that its foundation is far stronger than any single market cycle.

Why Bitcoin Thrives On Patience, Not Speculation

Bitcoin’s status as the largest cryptocurrency of all time is a direct result of its unique and powerful holdings. An analyst known as GhostOfTanzCho has revealed on X that other cryptocurrencies have tried to compete with Bitcoin, but none have succeeded in recreating that same gravity of conviction and holding culture.

This culture, which is the key ingredient to its success, attracts people who wholeheartedly believe in holding, and it indoctrinates skeptics into an actionable belief of holding. There has never been another cryptocurrency that successfully recreated the holding culture that made Bitcoin great. However, the same culture is currently being replicated in SPX6900.

GhostOfTanzCho argues that the success of a crypto token is fundamentally a reflection of supply and demand. By building a strong holding culture, a crypto token effectively solves the supply side of the equation by reducing sell pressure.

Coincidentally, it also solves the demand side by incentivizing holders to create a critical mass of belief and interest. Thus, the SPX6900 could be one of the most significant crypto tokens of all time. Against all odds, it has done the impossible and has recreated the cultural DNA of Bitcoin.

This model, which favors long-term believers over short-term traders, is described as the only way for a crypto token to become a market giant. When a critical mass of people have the conviction to hold long-term, trading becomes irrelevant, and the culture wins.

Global Money Supply Surge Sets The Stage For BTC

In the midst of heightened Bitcoin accumulation, a massive surge in global money supply is laying the groundwork for the next explosive crypto cycle, and BTC is already leading the charge.

According to LondonRealTV’s founder Brian Rose, the expansion of the global money supply has historically been a leading driver of crypto bull cycles. With the price of BTC above $115,000, ETF inflows accelerating, and the total crypto market cap rising by $2 trillion in a single year, this shows liquidity is clearly returning.

The analyst also highlights key risks that could trigger volatility. These include a potential reversal in monetary policy, where central banks begin to tighten the money supply, or large-scale profit-taking by major holders. Meanwhile, monitoring on-chain flows and capital rotation will be essential as the market cycle matures.

Chart Decoder Series: Average True Range – Volatility Tools to Help You Select Your Target and Get Profit

Welcome to Chart decoder seriesconvert professional trading tools into strategies you can use today.

So far, we’ve been working on:

Today we explore ATR (average true range). This is an indicator that solves one of the biggest puzzles in a transaction. What risk is there and where should the stops be placed?

What ATR really says to you

The ATR was developed by J. Welles Wilder Jr. in 1978 as part of a groundbreaking work on technical analysis. Unlike most metrics focusing on price direction, ATR measures only one thing. It’s volatility.

The ATR answers an important question: “How long does this market normally move?”

Calculation: The ATR examines the “true range” of each period. This is the largest.

  1. Current high – Low current
  2. |Current High – Previous Closed|
  3. |Current Low – Previous Closed|

Next, move the average of these true range values over the selected period (14 is the standard for Bitfinex, but you can adjust it to any time you like)

Absolute values ensure that the ATR always shows a positive number, regardless of whether the gap is up or down.

Why is ATR important:

ATR is beyond context. It forms the way traders manage risk, size locations and set exits. Rather than relying solely on intestinal sensation, it provides an objective measure of market behavior that directly informs all transactional decisions.

1. Smarter stop loss

Placement of stops without an ATR is basically guesswork. The ATR indicates what is considered “normal” movement and cannot be thrown away in your daily swing.

  • Scalping Stop (0.5 x ATR): Used by high frequency traders who want a quick ex with the first sign of trouble. Effective only during low volatility periods where market movements are predictable
  • Standard stop (1 x ATR): Provides ample space for normal price fluctuations while maintaining reasonable risk management
  • Stop position (2xATR): For traders who hold a position for several days that needs to survive the normal daily volatility cycle without a premature exit

2. Size your position appropriately

Professional risk management is the maintenance of consistent risk exposure regardless of market conditions. Instead of trading the same size in all conditions, adapt smaller positions when the volatility is high, and adapt larger positions when it’s mild.

3. Volatility breakout spots

Breakouts with expanded ATRs demonstrate institutional participation and true directional beliefs. If price breaks a critical level but the ATR remains flat, it often indicates weak follow-through and a high probability of inversion. The most powerful setup occurs when the price breaks a critical level with an ATR expansion, checking both direction and momentum.

4. Set profit targets

ATR multiple provides a reasonable framework for setting realistic profit targets and helps you move away from guessing towards consistency.

  • Conservatives: 1.5 x ATR
  • Standard: 2 x ATR
  • Aggressive: 3xATR

Actual example: BTC/USD analysis

price: $110,500
ATR (14): 3,033

This tells us:

Bitcoin’s recent average daily exercise is about $3,033. This gives traders a clear context.

  • The $3,000 move is no exception. Matches 1xATR
  • Approx. 3,000 (1 x ATR) stops losses about normal breathing patio
  • A profit target of $4,500-6,000 (1.5-2xATR) is realistic for swing trading
  • ATR at this level shows a moderately volatile market that requires careful position sizing and risk management.

ATR + Other Indicators:

When combined with other tools, the ATR becomes even more powerful.

ATR + Bollinger Band: This move is more certain when you hit the extreme Bollinger band with a high-priced ATR. A low ATR in the band may suggest that extremes are not retained.

ATR + RSI: Excessive conditions for RSI with elevated ATR often mark important bases. High volatility shows true sales pressure, and it sells too much and makes the reading more meaningful.

ATR + MACD: MACD crossovers with an ATR expansion are more reliable than those contracted by ATR. Volatility confirms that there is a conviction for a change in momentum.

ATR + Volume + obv: Triple combination: obv points to the direction of smart marten, volume points to immediate conviction, and ATR shows how much to expect. If there is all alignment, there is a high paraability setup.

Bonus Read: ATR + RSI Behavior

price: $110,600
ATR (14): 3,033
RSI (14): 39.12 (nearly excessive)

This tells us:

  • The RSI of 39 is below neutral (50), but has surpassed the 30 overselling threshold, still showing bearish momentum rather than extreme.
  • ATR of 3,033 indicates an increase in daily volatility. This means that the swing is big.

For traders:

  • Bearish rsi + high atr = Sales pressure is active and backed by volatility.
  • If RSI approaches 30 while the ATR is high, the market is not just going down, but is being sold by force. Overselling conditions will carry more weight.
  • If the RSI begins to climb while the ATR remains high, the bounce may have some strength behind it rather than simply a weak recovery.

ATR limitations to remember:

Delay indicator
The ATR is based on past price transfers. It tells us what volatility is, not necessarily what it is.

There is no direction bias
ATRs don’t tell you what direction the market will move. It’s just a typical amount of movement.

Smoothed data
Like all moving averages, ATRs can be slower to respond to sudden changes in volatility.

Market context is important
ATRs in trending markets behave differently than horizontal markets. Always consider the larger picture.

Pro tips for ATR:

1. Use multiple time frames

  • Daily ATR: For swing trading and position sizing
  • 4-hour ATR: For day trading setup
  • 1 hour ATR: For accurate input timing

2. Economic calendar integration

ATRs often spike major news events. Plan position sizing and stop placement accordingly.

3. Weekend benefits

Crypto Markets is open 24/7, but volatility patterns often change over the weekend. Consider individual ATR calculations for weekday and weekends.

Try it with Bitfinex:

  1. Log in to Bitfinex
  2. Choose your main trading pair
  3. Add an ATR indicator (starts with the standard 14 periods. The length can be adjusted within the ATR settings)
  4. Observe how ATR changes in different market conditions
  5. Practice using ATR for stop loss placement
  6. Note the correlation between ATR and key price movements

The following is a guest post and opinion from Slavik Baranov, CEO at STON.fi Dev.

From Gaming Phenomenon to Financial Ambition

In 2024, the TON blockchain became one of the most talked-about ecosystems in crypto — not because of a groundbreaking DeFi protocol, but thanks to the meteoric rise of viral tap-to-earn games on Telegram. Titles like Hamster Kombat and Notcoin drew millions virtually overnight, pushing daily active wallets to nearly 2 million by September.

The surge proved TON can onboard users at a pace few blockchains can match. But it also exposed the fragility of hype-driven adoption: many players came for quick rewards and left when incentives ended. Speculative capital — fluid and opportunistic by nature — followed the same path.

Games showed TON’s reach. But they were never meant to be the foundation of a financial revolution.

The Lasting Impact of the Hype Cycle

The post-game cooldown wasn’t a collapse; it was a reset. In January 2024, before the gaming boom, TON averaged 26,000 daily active wallets. After the dust settled, activity stabilized at 100,000–200,000 — a multiple of its pre-hype base.

Even more importantly, developer and user inflows seeded growth across the ecosystem. The number of DeFi protocols on TON rose from 35 to 67 in 2024 — a 91% increase. This expansion reflects a gradual shift in focus from short-lived promotions to enduring financial infrastructure.

Building TON’s DeFi Landscape

TON’s DeFi sector now spans token swaps, staking, and lending. In early 2024, EVAA launched as the first lending protocol. By late summer, AMM protocol STON.fi had reached nearly $400 million in liquidity. Today, the leaders by total value locked (TVL) are the liquid staking protocol Tonstakers and the swap protocol STON.fi, reflecting user preference for core, high-liquidity services.

Fueled by gaming-related excitement, total value locked (TVL) across the network peaked at $1.1 billion in July 2024. But as incentive programs ended, TVL declined to around $600 million by early 2025 and now stands near $400 million.

DeFi TVL
DeFi TVL (source: DefiLlama)

These movements suggest that part of TON’s liquidity was influenced by short-term market dynamics. Funds tended to flow in during periods of attractive yields and gradually taper off as those opportunities diminished.

By the end of 2024, TON had nearly 38 million addresses, yet new wallet creation fell sharply — from 724,000 daily in autumn to just 33,000 in early 2025. Meanwhile, staking emerged as a safe haven: around 790 million TON are currently staked, concentrating liquidity in lower-risk, base-layer protocols.

Why the Revolution Hasn’t Happened Yet

Compared with Ethereum or Solana, TON’s liquidity depth and range of products are still developing. Part of this difference stems from its underlying design. TON’s architecture was created with massive scalability in mind, leading to technically elegant but more complex infrastructure for developers.

Smart contracts on TON use a low-level language, and many core components require building from the ground up, which may have contributed to a more gradual pace of DeFi development in its early years.

The trade-off? Low-level development can produce more efficient, resilient solutions over time. TON’s core team is actively reducing friction for builders, paving the way for faster growth.

Another factor is ecosystem dependence on Telegram. On one hand, this integration gives TON direct access to over 1 billion users and tangible utility — since 2024, Telegram channel owners have been able to receive ad revenue payouts in TON. On the other hand, it creates a single point of exposure: any disruption in Telegram instantly impacts TON.

For now, many average users still see Telegram mini-apps as casual games rather than financial tools. Without broadening beyond entertainment use cases, TON’s appeal to institutional capital remains constrained.

Unlocking TON’s DeFi Potential

The path forward is clear: expand beyond hype cycles and deliver mass-market financial services seamlessly integrated into the Telegram experience.

This could mean:

  • Frictionless payments — sending crypto in a Telegram chat as easily as a text message.
  • Everyday utility — paying for goods, services, or restaurant bills in TON-based tokens.
  • Accessible lending — offering microloans and credit solutions in regions underserved by banks.

If executed well, these use cases could transform TON from a viral gaming phenomenon into a primary interface for global crypto adoption.

Signals of Institutional Confidence

Institutional investment is already validating TON’s potential. In March 2024, major players including Sequoia Capital, Draper Associates, Kingsway, CoinFund, Ribbit, and Skybridge invested in Toncoin.

In January 2025, Zodia Custody (a subsidiary of Standard Chartered) announced support for TON’s Jetton token standard, enabling banks and large investors to securely hold and manage TON assets. And in July 2025, The Open Platform — a developer of Telegram-based protocols and apps built on TON — secured $28.5 million at a $1 billion valuation from leading funds Ribbit Capital and Pantera Capital.

Conclusion: From Potential to Reality

The explosive growth of 2024 proved that pairing Telegram’s reach with blockchain’s capabilities can move markets. But true transformation will come only when TON evolves from a hype-fueled onramp into a robust financial ecosystem.

The fundamentals are in place: a growing developer base, improving infrastructure, and unprecedented distribution through Telegram. If TON’s DeFi sector can simplify the user experience and deliver essential, in-demand services where users already are, it won’t just participate in the future of digital finance — it could help define it.

Bitcoin Gearing Up for ‘Big Move’ After Reaching True Price Discovery Phase: ProCap’s Anthony Pompliano https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-gearing-up-for-big-move-after-reaching-true-price-discovery-phase-procaps-anthony-pompliano/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-gearing-up-for-big-move-after-reaching-true-price-discovery-phase-procaps-anthony-pompliano/#respond Mon, 14 Jul 2025 20:10:02 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-gearing-up-for-big-move-after-reaching-true-price-discovery-phase-procaps-anthony-pompliano/

Professional Capital Management founder and CEO Anthony Pompliano says that Bitcoin (BTC) has become the “greatest show on Wall Street.”

In a new interview with CNBC’s Squawk Box, Pompliano gives three reasons why BTC is leading the crypto markets to new all-time highs.

“First of all, welcome to The Greatest Show on Wall Street. I think Wall Street’s full, undivided attention is now on Bitcoin. And really, there are three things that drove this move.

The first is that there have been record inflows into the ETFs (exchange-traded funds). Last Thursday alone saw $1.2 billion—the second-highest day ever. Those ETFs now collectively have over $140 billion. BlackRock’s fund alone is now almost $90 billion. In about a year, they went from not having a Bitcoin ETF to having one of the top 20 largest ETFs in the world. So there’s a lot of inflows there.

The second thing is that the options expired at the end of Q2. So all that downward pressure on Bitcoin went away. That helps—kind of like a beach ball being pushed underwater. Obviously, it can pop back up.

And then the third thing is that there were a lot of short sellers. You started to see that build up, and as they got blown out as Bitcoin ran, you entered this price discovery phase. If you go back to November, we went from $70,000 to $90,000 in about two to three weeks. And $70,000 was a new all-time high.”

While not giving explicit price targets, Pompliano says that BTC is in for a “big move” now that’s broken the previous all-time high of $110,000.

“Well, what we’re watching now is that we’ve broken through that $110,000 range, which was the previous all-time high. I don’t know if it goes to $140,000, but it sure is going to make a big move here—because we are in a true price discovery phase.”

Bitcoin’s climb past $110,000 this week has reignited a fresh round of bullish calls. Prices hit $110,150 on July 3 and traded a little past $108,000 level at last check, showing a small 0.41% dip in 24 hours but a 1.20% rise over seven days.

This steady move higher has drawn voices from social media, stirring debate on whether Bitcoin is truly underpriced or in danger of slipping back below key levels.

Undervalued At $110K

According to Altcoin Daily, Bitcoin at $110,000 is “undervalued,” with the analysts arguing there’s plenty of room to run. That bold claim has fans cheering, and some even dream of $1,000,000 down the road.

Other users have pushed back, asking what on‑chain data or metrics back up this view. They point out that until Bitcoin clears resistance at $110,500, a real breakout isn’t confirmed.

Based on reports from market trackers, global liquidity is on the rise. Market observers picked up on that, saying more cash floating around can push Bitcoin higher.

Rising liquidity often fuels big moves in risk assets. Still, traders keep an eye on futures funding rates and miner sell‑pressure, looking for clues if a pullback is brewing.

Mixed Views Online

Some followers argue that inflation and new tariffs could dampen Bitcoin’s rally. Others note that central banks are still buying time before any rate hikes, which may give crypto another boost.

The back‑and‑forth on social media reads like a mini war room, with short comments and deep threads floating around. Plenty of voices, but few hard answers.

Past Bull Runs

Altcoin Daily wasn’t shy about past calls either. Just days earlier, they said that once Bitcoin tops $150,000, investors would wish they’d bought more at lower prices. That kind of hindsight talk can be stirring, but it doesn’t change the here‑and‑now charts or the macro calendar.

Exec Calls For Hedge

Based on remarks by Matt Hougan, Chief Investment Officer at Bitwise, now could be a good time to buy Bitcoin. Hougan pointed to Ray Dalio’s warnings about US debt, which has swelled past $7 trillion in annual spending against $5 trillion in revenue.

With each household on the hook for roughly $230,000, Dalio says holding Bitcoin can act as a hedge against future money‑print risks.

Price Action On Crosshair

Investors will be watching both price action and big‑picture events. A solid break above $110,500 might pull in more buyers. But if inflation surprises on the upside or tariffs hit harder, odds could shift quickly.

For now, Bitcoin’s story is still unfolding—and the next few days could tell us a lot about where it’s headed.

Disney’s America: The bizarre true story of a failed US history theme park https://earlybirdsinvest.com/disneys-america-the-bizarre-true-story-of-a-failed-us-history-theme-park/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/disneys-america-the-bizarre-true-story-of-a-failed-us-history-theme-park/#respond Fri, 04 Jul 2025 12:33:40 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/disneys-america-the-bizarre-true-story-of-a-failed-us-history-theme-park/

How we tell the story of the United States — and who’s included in it and how — has been an ongoing battle in the country for decades. It’s one currently being waged by the Trump administration, such as when it scrubbed references to Jackie Robinson and Harriet Tubman from government webpages in the name of clamping down on “DEI.”

And in the 1990s, Disney had a particularly zany idea of how to tell the story of America — one that set off a culture war as the company sought to create an amusement park focused on US history, warts and all.

Disney’s America, the doomed amusement park, would have contained the story of immigration told through the Muppets’ musical-comedy stylings. It would have had sections dedicated to the Industrial Revolution, Native America, and the Civil War. It would, as Disney executives put it at the time, “make you a Civil War soldier. We want to make you feel what it was like to be a slave.”

The ensuing battle over Disney’s America would be one of Disney’s biggest failures — and a precursor to battles we’re still fighting today.

To learn more about what Disney tried to do, what ended up happening, and what it all means, Today, Explained co-host Sean Rameswaram spoke with historian Jacqui Shine.

Below is an excerpt of their conversation, edited for length and clarity. There’s much more in the full podcast, so listen to Today, Explained wherever you get podcasts, including Apple Podcasts, Pandora, and Spotify.

Where does this story begin?

It begins with Michael Eisner, who came to Disney as its CEO and chairman in 1984. Eisner is ambitious, aggressive. Over the next 10 years, in what Disney buffs called the Disney Renaissance, the company has this enormous critical and commercial success with a run of animated movies. The juggernaut of this is The Little Mermaid, followed by Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and Aladdin.

Maybe high on that supply, Eisner announces this plan for what he calls the Disney decade, which is this broad expansion of the company’s parks and resorts. The most high-profile project here was Euro Disney Resort, which is now Disneyland Paris. And there’s high expectations for the Disney decade and for the success of the Parks program.

This doesn’t go quite the way that they hope it will. Euro Disney doesn’t do well at opening. It loses nearly a billion dollars in its first year. So the failure of Euro Disney leads the company to want to pivot to more US expansion on smaller park projects.

In 1991, the head of the parks division brings Eisner and Disney’s president Frank Wells to Colonial Williamsburg. This inspires this plan for a history-themed Disney Park, Disney’s America.

They want to put it in Virginia because they imagine that it can become part of the DC-area tourist economy, and that a Disney theme park that is about American history will fit really well into this context. This is not a project that was supposed to involve Mickey Mouse or any of the Disney icons. Disney was starting work on Pocahontas.

Eisner says that he was reading a lot about John Smith and Pocahontas and that internally, the company was interested in democracy as a sort of, as a thematic subject.

So Eisner and Disney have an idea of what they don’t want to do, and perhaps more importantly, what they do want to do with this park. To build it, obviously you’re going to need some land. I imagine Disney just didn’t already have a huge parcel of property in northern Virginia-ish. Do they buy some?

They do. Between 1991 and 1993, Disney secretly begins buying up parcels of land in the area through shell companies. The guy who was in charge of buying apparently used a fake persona; this was very undercover, this is all happening secretly. It is also less than five miles from a National Park Service Civil War Battlefield: Manassas. This is a place where about 3,700 men died and where there were about 25,000 total casualties.

They’re doing this secretly. At what point does Manassas find out that Mickey Mouse is buying up their land?

Almost everybody finds out in November 1993 when Disney announces the project.

I think initially people receive this warmly, because Disney’s promising a significant amount of economic development for the region and Disney is promising a complex experience of American history there. The guy who heads the Disney’s America project, Bob Weis, says in the press release they envisioned Disney’s America as a place to debate and discuss the future of our nation and to learn more about the past by living it.

And they are quick to say that this is a project that is not going to whitewash American history. Eisner is interviewed in the Washington Post the next day. He says that the park will present painful, disturbing, agonizing history. We’re going to be sensitive, but we will not be showing the absolute propaganda of the country. We will show the Civil War with all this racial conflict.

This was a very serious, very powerful, very successful entertainment executive saying, “We’re gonna make a kiddy theme park that will take our most brutal history seriously.

Yes. And I think, like you, a lot of people had trouble with that contradiction. The day after this press release is issued, Disney holds a press conference in Haymarket. At this presser, Bob Weis, who is the senior vice president of imagineering, which is Disney’s creative division, says, “This will be entertaining in the sense that it would leave you something you could mull over. We want to make you a Civil War soldier. We want to make you feel what it was like to be a slave or what it was like to escape through the underground railroad.”

This moment, I think, comes to define this conflict in the public eye.

It’s such a nutty thing to hear a serious person say. Your kids could come to our theme park, home of Mickey Mouse, and find out what it’s like to be a slave. I imagine at this point, people are just like, “I’m sorry, I’m gonna need some more specifics.

Yes. They put out a brochure, which is where a lot of the information that we have about what this would’ve been like comes from.

“Any kind of debate about public history is always going to be about trying to stake some sort of political or ideological claim about the meaning of American history.”

You enter at Crossroads USA, and there you board an 1840s train that takes you first to President Square, which they say celebrates the birth of democracy. It’s about the Revolutionary War.

You follow that to Native America. They say, “guests may visit an Indian village representing such eastern tribes as the Powhatans, or join in a harrowing Lewis and Clark raft expedition through pounding rapids and churning whirlpools.” We’re going to be educating people about Manifest Destiny here.

We move from Native America to the Civil War fort, where they say you’re going to experience the reality of a soldier’s daily life. After the Civil War fort, you go to a section on American immigration. And they’re going to build a replica Ellis Island building. Some sources indicate they would’ve done a show called The Muppets Take America.

The next section is a factory town called Enterprise that centers on a high-speed adventure ride called the Industrial Revolution. That involves a narrow escape from its fiery vat of molten steel.

Then you go to Victory Field, where guests may parachute from a plane or operate tanks and weapons in combat.

You then hit the last two areas, State Fair and Family Farm, to learn how to make homemade ice cream or milk a cow and even participate in a nearby country wedding, barn dance, and buffet.

This sounds like one doozy of a brochure. Does it work? Does it convince everyone?

Does that slow down Michael Eisner? Is he ready to give up?

No. And that is where the fight begins. People hook in, in particular, to this idea that Disney’s going to include some element about American chattel slavery. And he is aggressive about saying, No, we weren’t going to do that. Why would you think that?

He is really persuaded that Disney’s big swing can work, that this idea has value and merit, and that the people who are standing against it are misguided.

At this point, is this fight relegated to Virginia, or is it getting bigger? This is obviously an international company with a huge cultural footprint.

It’s getting bigger. One of the things that contributes to this is that the Washington Post does a lot of coverage of this, which makes it go national. And it starts this debate in editorial pages about whether or not Disney can responsibly represent American history and whether or not the Disneyfication of American history is advisable.

And what happens when national papers, opinion columns start weighing in on this debate?

A few things happen. In early 1994, a strong coalition of opponents develops, including people who are concerned about preserving the environment there.

But then the historians get involved. The big guns come out when this group called Protect Historic America launches. This is a group of big-name, high-powered academic historians. This group of major figures stepped forward to say they’re concerned about education around the Civil War and about the park’s location near Manassas. In very short order, dozens and dozens of historians volunteer their time to write editorials, to comment to the media. They’re really fired up about this.

I read that this fight also somehow made it to the United States Congress. Why is this even Congress’s business?

This is one of the interesting things that comes out of Senate Energy and Natural Resources subcommittee hearings. The entree into this is that this involves public lands of national importance. Five hundred people come to the Senate hearing, and Eisner’s really combative. He says about the people who are opposed to this, “I sat through many history classes where I read some of their stuff and I didn’t learn anything. It was pretty boring.”

At this point you’ve got historians speaking out about this. You’ve got op-ed columns being written, it sounds like all over the country. You’ve got a hearing on Capitol Hill. Are people out in the streets protesting this somewhere?

They are. Eisner is on the Hill trying to make nice with DC politicians and invites them to a special screening of The Lion King. But when they leave the theater, there are about a hundred protestors outside. Bigger than this though, in September 1994, 3,000 people march on the National Mall to protest Disney’s America.

Nationally, public support for the park has dropped to like 25 percent. At the end of September 1994, the company announces that Disney is withdrawing from the Virginia site. It’s clear that people don’t want it to be sited where it is, and they’re giving up. It’s over for Disney’s America. It is curtains for Disney’s America.

How do you think what happened in the ’90s connects to the kinds of fights we’re having about our history right now?

Any kind of debate about public history is always going to be about trying to stake some sort of political or ideological claim about the meaning of American history. Right now we see this very direct, very aggressive effort to insist on a positivist narrative about American history.

One of the things that I think people found puzzling about the early days of the Trump administration was that the National Endowment for the Humanities cut an enormous amount of active grants. And they issued new guidelines seeking projects, they say, that instill “an understanding of the founding principles and ideals that make America an exceptional country.” I think partly this is the administration’s backlash to efforts in the last decade to bring a more nuanced and complex understanding to structural oppression in US history.

We fantasize about American history in all kinds of ways, in all kinds of places. I don’t know that Disney in seeking to do that was necessarily doing anything out of step with how we represent the American story.

Behind the Scenes: The True Cost of MEVs for Blockchains https://earlybirdsinvest.com/behind-the-scenes-the-true-cost-of-mevs-for-blockchains/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/behind-the-scenes-the-true-cost-of-mevs-for-blockchains/#respond Sat, 21 Jun 2025 22:09:29 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/behind-the-scenes-the-true-cost-of-mevs-for-blockchains/

A new report from Flashbots has warned that Maximum Extractable Value (MEV) is quietly becoming one of the biggest roadblocks to blockchain scaling.

According to the research, rampant “spam auctions” driven by MEV searchers are systematically consuming most of the new capacity on high-throughput chains like Solana and Ethereum Layer-2s (L2s), neutralizing scaling gains and driving up user fees.

The Scale of MEV-Induced Waste

MEV, the extra profit miners or bots can extract by reordering transactions, has long been controversial. But Flashbots’ latest deep dive shows that the problem has escalated from an ethical debate to a measurable drag on blockchain performance.

Analyzing data from OP-Stack rollups like Base and Optimism mainnet, alongside findings from Solana, the Flashbots survey showed how high-frequency arbitrage bots flood networks with countless speculative transactions in search of quick profits.

According to researcher Bert Miller, bots on Solana use about 40% of its blockspace while contributing a mere 7% of total fees. Meanwhile, on Ethereum L2s like Base and OP mainnet, spam bots reportedly eat up more than half of the available gas but pay a fraction of the costs compared to legitimate users.

Miller shared one stark example on X: Between November 2024 and February 2025, Base boosted its throughput by 11 million gas per second, roughly the same as three Ethereum mainnets, only to see pretty much all of it absorbed by spam bots.

He stressed that the core issue lies in how the bots operate. Usually, private mempools, designed to shield their users from frontrunning, leave MEV searchers blind to real-time order flows. Therefore, to stay competitive, these bots tend to deploy complex transactions on-chain to probe for arbitrage, resulting in mountains of wasted computation when no profit exists.

Miller noted that one successful two-hop arbitrage may cost as much as 132 million gas in failed attempts, which is about the size of four Ethereum blocks per win.

According to him, this dynamic means that while blockchains can technically expand throughput, MEV spam creates an economic ceiling that makes raw ramping up inefficient and costly for everyone else. The Flashbots thesis called this the “dominant limit to scaling blockchains” and proposed overhauling how networks handle transaction ordering.

Path to Economic Efficiency

The research organization’s suggested fix combines “programmable privacy,” which gives searchers enough visibility to avoid spam while shielding users from predatory strategies, with explicit bidding for transaction priority. This way, it believes competition will shift from brute-force spamming to transparent, price-based auctions.

In another X post, Miller revealed that some early experiments, like using Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) to enforce bot behavior, are already live. Last year, his compatriot Angela Lu announced that Flashbots had run tests, where they embedded a bot inside a secure enclave, letting it capture arbitrage opportunities trustlessly while preventing malicious tactics like sandwich attacks.

Only recently, former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao floated the idea of dark pools using zero-knowledge proof to counter the MEV menace in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space. Furthermore, last year, blockchain oracle provider Chainlink introduced a solution dubbed Smart Value Recapture (SVR) that would enable DeFi apps to reclaim “non-toxic” MEV.

If refined, innovations like these could hopefully transform MEV from a hidden drain into a source of sustainable revenue for chains, while lowering fees for everyday users.

True Markets Raises $11M in Series A, Launches Mobile-First DeFi Trading App on Solana https://earlybirdsinvest.com/true-markets-raises-11m-in-series-a-launches-mobile-first-defi-trading-app-on-solana/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/true-markets-raises-11m-in-series-a-launches-mobile-first-defi-trading-app-on-solana/#respond Tue, 20 May 2025 16:44:18 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/true-markets-raises-11m-in-series-a-launches-mobile-first-defi-trading-app-on-solana/

True Markets, a new decentralized finance (DeFi) trading platform focused on stablecoin-native execution, has launched its mobile app on Solana and closed an $11 million Series A, bringing total funding to $20 million, the company said in a press release Tuesday.

The funding round was co-led by Accomplice and RRE Ventures, with participation from Reciprocal Ventures, Variant Fund, and PayPal Ventures.

Seed investors Paxos Ventures and the Solana Foundation, continue to support the firm, True Markets said.

Founded by Coinbase (COIN) and Circle veterans Vishal Gupta and Patrick McCreary, True Markets aims to deliver a non-custodial, mobile-first DeFi trading experience for retail users, prioritizing speed, simplicity, and transparency.

The app enables stablecoin-powered token trading on Solana, with gasless execution, smart order routing, and embedded key management via Turnkey, all without users surrendering custody of funds, True Markets said.

“Retail traders have been stuck with clunky workflows, unclear pricing, and fragmented liquidity,” said Vishal Gupta, CEO of True Markets, in the release.

“Our goal is to deliver a fairer and more transparent experience that makes asset discovery simple, shows real-time market momentum, and feels as intuitive as the best apps on your phone,” Gupta added.

Backed by infrastructure partners Turnkey and Definitive, the app features real-time market sparklines, automated execution across decentralized venues, and hosted wallets that support immediate funding and trading within a non-custodial framework.

True Markets said it plans to expand into both CeFi and DeFi markets, with future integrations including TrueX, a centralized exchange designed for institutional liquidity and qualified custody.

Peter Schiff Says Bitcoin Is Nothing Like Gold: Is That True? (Opinion) https://earlybirdsinvest.com/peter-schiff-says-bitcoin-is-nothing-like-gold-is-that-true-opinion/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/peter-schiff-says-bitcoin-is-nothing-like-gold-is-that-true-opinion/#respond Sun, 11 May 2025 22:13:35 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/peter-schiff-says-bitcoin-is-nothing-like-gold-is-that-true-opinion/

The Euro Pacific Capital founder and chief strategist pointed out that gold rose 3% over the previous weekend from Friday until Monday. Meanwhile, the average BTC price fell by 3%. The investment wizard left it to the reader to conclude that Bitcoin cannot be a digital version of gold.

But this may be a specious argument.

Peter Schiff Doesn’t Give Bitcoin Credit

The representatives of Bitcoin in online communities compare it to gold, but by analogy. Nobody but Peter Schiff seems to be confused about whether BTC is some kind of gold certificate or ETF.

The analogy to the yellow metal begins in the seminal Bitcoin white paper by Satoshi Nakamoto. Describing how the BTC network creates new supplies of the currency, he wrote on Oct 31, 2008:

“The steady addition of a constant of amount of new coins is analogous to gold miners expending resources to add gold to circulation. In our case, it is CPU time and electricity that is expended.”

In other words, Bitcoin has a limited supply and any network participant must spend the electricity and computer runtime the BTC app requires in order to produce a new coin.

The Digital Gold Thesis Lives On

Later in the comment thread on his original post, Schiff wrote:

“Gold is 100% intrinsic value. Bitcoin is 100% faith.”

But gold does not have intrinsic value. It has instrumental value as a financial commodity because of the specific properties of its nature and the economy of our planet.

The rarity, durability, fungibility, and chemical identifiability of gold make it a financial classic of human civilization. The creator(s) of Bitcoin designed it to instantiate all four of those properties in a free, open, public, borderless, computer network database.

As for BTC vs. gold in terms of their performance as financial investments, Bitcoin was built to give its bearers relief from overheated central bank printing presses. Traditionally, folks like Mr. Schiff used gold for that purpose.

But Bitcoin hasn’t failed so far to live up to gold’s reputation as a fiat shelter. In fact, it’s done even better than the yellow metal over most time spans relevant to most kinds of investors.

Analyst Says Solana-Based Memecoin Going Much Higher, Sees PENGU Facing ‘True Test’ After April Surge https://earlybirdsinvest.com/analyst-says-solana-based-memecoin-going-much-higher-sees-pengu-facing-true-test-after-april-surge/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/analyst-says-solana-based-memecoin-going-much-higher-sees-pengu-facing-true-test-after-april-surge/#respond Mon, 28 Apr 2025 02:22:06 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/analyst-says-solana-based-memecoin-going-much-higher-sees-pengu-facing-true-test-after-april-surge/

A closely followed crypto strategist believes one memecoin running on Solana (SOL) is not yet done rallying, even after posting over 60% gains this month.

Pseudonymous analyst Altcoin Sherpa tells his 245,000 followers on the social media platform X that he’s bullish on Bonk (BONK) following the altcoin’s breakout of an accumulation zone on the three-day chart.

The trader shares a chart suggesting that BONK can rally to as high as $0.0000262 after taking out its resistance at $0.0000142.

“BONK is going much higher (I have a bag). Looks good on the charts as well.

Think I’m going to add to my position if I get a small dip.”

At time of writing, BONK is trading for $0.0000182.

Turning to the native asset of the non-fungible token (NFT) project Pudgy Penguins (PENGU), the trader says the altcoin needs to print a bullish higher low setup at around $0.0065 to start reversing its multi-month downtrend. Otherwise, Altcoin Sherpa warns that PENGU may drop to as low as $0.004.

“Coins like PENGU got rekt the last several months but are showing some signs of life. The true test is going to be where the next low is and how the reaction is.

The trend is still bearish, so don’t be so quick to catch knives. That said, we could see some reversal if the environment continues to ease up.”

Based on the trader’s chart, he appears to suggest that PENGU may soar to as high as $0.014 if the altcoin manages to establish a higher low.

At time of writing, PENGU is worth $0.00985.

As for the broader altcoin market, the analyst warns that most coins are still in a high-time-frame downtrend and that the gains witnessed this month could be erased. However, Altcoin Sherpa notes that it is now within the realm of possibility for altcoins to start carving a major cycle bottom en route to a bullish reversal.

“To be clear, I’m pretty bullish overall and think that we’re going higher and the next major dip is a BUY THE DIP situation.

HOWEVER, most alts still are in bearish market structures (see TAO) and continuation of that trend is down. I think we go higher for everything, but just a careful reminder that these sh*tcoins are still in bearish trends and have made lower highs, lower lows.

I do think that we’re doing better, though.”
