Reports have disclosed that athletes and their teams are growing more cautious about crypto endorsement deals.

According to a recent interview with Shelly Socol, a marketing executive at BTCC Exchange, sports stars now demand deeper checks on a crypto firm’s history, compliance record, and staying power before signing.

Past scandals such as the FTX collapse have left a mark. Deals that once moved fast are taking longer to clear.

Athletes Demand Stronger Vetting

Based on reports, a recent CoinGecko analysis shows a 38% drop in crypto sports sponsorships from 2021 Peaks, and that fall has changed how offers are handled.

Players are often consulting legal and financial advisers before they sign. Some are even choosing Bitcoin pay. For example, posts on X have highlighted USC recruit Matai Tagoa’i’s NIL deal paid entirely in Bitcoin, and lists like Bitbo.io’s roundup show several pro athletes leaning toward crypto as a hedge.

Market Data And Sponsorship Models

From industry outlets, sponsorships are becoming more layered. A 2023 report — updated with 2025 insights — found that crypto firms are adding NFTs and fan tools to deals so the contracts do more than put a logo on a jersey.

Euromonitor International research points to brand perception shifts when blockchain elements are added to sports marketing.

Regulatory moves are also in the mix; recent SEC fines and the passage of MiCA in Europe are pushing sponsors to show cleaner compliance paths. When laws tighten, partners want proof of proper behavior.

Exchanges Seek Credibility Through Stars

BTCC’s deal with NBA All-Star Jaren Jackson Jr. is a case in point. Reports describe the exchange working to use the partnership to build trust, not just get attention.

The campaign reportedly includes a $500,000 USDT prize pool aimed at user engagement. Such moves are being watched closely.

Endorsements are now as much about reputation signals as they are about audience reach, the WPN report by Andrew Cain disclosed. In some deals, sponsorships are being structured to include education for fans and long-term incentives.

Risk Factors And Industry Forecasts

Analysts have warned that volatility can still hurt athlete income streams. Novatia Consulting’s December 2024 analysis warned that market crashes may reduce the value of crypto-based pay.

At the same time, a Vestinda blog post from December 2024 predicted wider use of tokenized assets for athlete compensation.

Brand Vision’s 2025 overview points out that some crypto-infused deals are beginning to rival classic sneaker contracts, and that stars like LeBron James and Cristiano Ronaldo command big premiums because they pick partners carefully.

The message from experts is simple: choose partners with clear rules and steady records.

Playing token mania: 6,000% or more pumps or classic Solana traps? https://earlybirdsinvest.com/playing-token-mania-6000-or-more-pumps-or-classic-solana-traps/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/playing-token-mania-6000-or-more-pumps-or-classic-solana-traps/#respond Sat, 17 May 2025 19:28:29 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/playing-token-mania-6000-or-more-pumps-or-classic-solana-traps/ Blockchain data shows that a new Solana token named Eric Trump rose 6,200% in just 24 hours. It was brought to life via Pump.fun Launchpad on May 16th, surged to a market capitalization of 140 million. Traders were stacked at high speed, but detectives on the chain noticed that over 80% of the supply was parked in just 10 wallets. Such concentrations often indicate a setup for sudden disintegration.

Exploitation of political names

Using the names of well-known people is an easy way to attract attention. Based on a report from Bubblemaps, Token’s Solana relationship with “JV7D” raised a red flag. Once the insider holds most of the coins, he is free to throw them away. Retail investors will retain what remains. It often means a big loss.

Warning sign on chain

Cluster analysis showed that the top 250 holders were linked via a small number of addresses. That pattern reflects wolves’ tokens, with little to nothing since reaching 42 million. Analysts say these moves fit the classic Lag Palscript and disappear after early supporters cashed out at peak.

Copycat tokens multiply

The same wallet, known as the “BJTM,” has launched three other Eric Trump tokens that had already rushed over quickly. Based on CoinMarketCap data, over 736 mimicking tokens have been pushed into the official card wallet space. Of those, 192 use Trump’s surname, and 67 claim to be “official.” Even Elon Musk’s name appears in at least 35 people.

Global political targets

Scammers aren’t stopped at our numbers. In April, the UK’s MP Lucy Powell’s verified X account was hijacked to promote fake Solana tokens. It took advantage of her 70,000 followers to net only 225 people, but showed that trustworthy badges were cheating on people.

Investor warning light

Based on this pattern, analysts will be warned. When the value of the token spikes without a clear backing and most coins are sitting in some wallets, it is a signal to retreat. Blind loyalty to political or other names can turn into economic pain.

What’s coming next

The more political meme coins pop up, the more risks it gets. All high profile names can be bait. Investors should check who holds the token, monitor rapid launches on cheap networks like Solana, and keep in mind that it can disappear so quickly that the hype appears.

In a space where hype often outweighs the foundations, maintaining alerts may be the best way to come to mind.

Listing an altcoin traps exchanges on 'forever hamster wheel' — River CEO https://earlybirdsinvest.com/listing-an-altcoin-traps-exchanges-on-forever-hamster-wheel-river-ceo/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/listing-an-altcoin-traps-exchanges-on-forever-hamster-wheel-river-ceo/#respond Sun, 30 Mar 2025 03:40:26 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/listing-an-altcoin-traps-exchanges-on-forever-hamster-wheel-river-ceo/

When a cryptocurrency exchange lists its first altcoin, it sets itself up for an endless cycle of launching memecoins, warns a Bitcoin-only institution executive.

“The minute an exchange adds one non-Bitcoin token, they are signing up to be on the forever hamster wheel of memecoins,” River Financial CEO Alex Leishman said in a March 29 X post. “It makes no sense to list ETH if you don’t list the tokens issued on ETH, and the same goes for Solana,” Leishman said.

River has no interest in building a “successful crypto casino”

Leishman said while there are many “successful crypto casinos,” he has no interest in building one. River Financial is a Bitcoin-only financial institution focusing on buying and selling Bitcoin (BTC).  Several companies have opted for the Bitcoin-only approach, including Swan Bitcoin, Bull Bitcoin, and decentralized exchange Bisq.

Leishman claimed that multi-asset trading platforms prioritize short-term speculation over wealth accumulation:

“The casino business model is built around maximal extraction from customers, and the Bitcoin-only model is focused on helping people build long-term wealth.”

Critics have voiced this point before, even during the memecoin uptrend in early 2024. In April 2024, A16z chief technology officer Eddy Lazzarin said that memecoins hamper the long-term vision of crypto that has kept so many of the original builders in the space.

“At best, it looks like a risky casino,” Lazzarin said.

The overall memecoin market cap has taken a significant downturn since the beginning of 2025. Since Jan. 1, the memecoin market cap has slumped almost 49% to $48.49 billion at the time of publication, according to CoinMarketCap data.

However, while altcoins have historically been more volatile than Bitcoin, offering them alongside Bitcoin has been a lucrative move for crypto exchanges and brokers.

On Feb. 12, Robinhood, which offers several cryptocurrencies to its customers, reported a 700% year-over-year surge in Q4 2024 cryptocurrency revenue.

Some traders seem to interpret a memecoin listing on an exchange as validation of its credibility. Among the 15 memecoins listed by crypto exchange Binance in 2024, 12 saw significant increases in value after going live on the exchange, pseudonymous onchain analyst Ai_9684xtpa said in November.

CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong recently speculated that the memecoin market might be headed toward an “extreme case of power law,” where 99.99% fail and a few rise to the top and endure.
