Hackers say they just posted a massive new trove of T-Mobile customer data online – but the details of the data dump are in question.

Cyber thieves uploaded the data to a popular dark web forum, according to Cybernews.

The outlet’s researchers say a sample of the data appears to contain some emails linked to prior T-Mobile breaches, along with “some new data points not seen in previous T-Mobile attacks.”

But the mobile giant says the malicious actors are flat-out lying.

“Any reports of a T-Mobile data breach are inaccurate. We have reviewed the sample data provided and can confirm the data does not relate to T-Mobile or our customers.”

Researchers say the data contains full names, dates of birth, tax IDs, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, device IDs, cookie IDs and IP addresses.

“If this data is legitimate, exposing 64M lines of highly sensitive information poses a serious threat of identity theft/fraud, surveillance, and further, better-targeted attacks on customers.”

The alleged data dump comes as 76 million T-Mobile customers begin to receive their share of a $350 million payout following a 2021 data breach and class action settlement.

Millions of T-mobile customers affected by a massive hack and data breach are beginning to receive their share of a $350 million class action settlement.

According to the settlement administrator, the distribution of settlement payments has now begun and will continue over the next several weeks.

The 2021 cyberattack compromised the personal data of a staggering 76 million US customers, exposing names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and other sensitive information.

T-Mobile agreed to the settlement in July of 2022 to resolve claims from the August 2021 breach.

Customers eligible for payments will receive a digital deposit or paper check based on their selection during the claim process, with amounts ranging from $25 to $100, with some eligible for up to $25,000 for substantial documented losses.

The settlement also includes two years of free identity protection services for affected customers.

The breach, one of the largest in U.S. history, prompted lawsuits accusing T-Mobile of failing to secure customer data.

T-Mobile says it has since enhanced its cybersecurity protocols to prevent future incidents, and the company did not admit to any wrongdoing in the settlement.

$350,000,000 Payment To T-Mobile Customers Incoming After Massive Hack and Data Breach Settlement https://earlybirdsinvest.com/350000000-payment-to-t-mobile-customers-incoming-after-massive-hack-and-data-breach-settlement/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/350000000-payment-to-t-mobile-customers-incoming-after-massive-hack-and-data-breach-settlement/#respond Sun, 02 Mar 2025 02:58:39 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/350000000-payment-to-t-mobile-customers-incoming-after-massive-hack-and-data-breach-settlement/

US phone giant T-Mobile is about to send $350 million to customers affected by a devastating data breach.

A new update on the T-Mobile Data Breach Settlement website says payments will begin in April.

The 2021 breach affected about 76 million people, exposing sensitive information like names, Social Security numbers and birth dates.

Those who faced out-of-pocket losses could claim up to $25,000, while others may receive $25 – or $100 for Californians – with no additional steps required for eligible class members.

The data breach was executed by John Binns, an American hacker based in Turkey who exploited a misconfigured internet-exposed router to access the company’s internal network.

Over weeks starting in early 2021, he used brute force attacks and specialized tools to breach the company’s servers.

The payments are the result of a class action lawsuit that T-Mobile decided to settle rather than fight in court.

People who used T-mobile in 2021 can reach out to the administrator on the settlement’s website or call 1-833-512-2314.
