gmail sponsored emails inbox view

Calvin Wankhede / Android Authority

TL;DR

  • Gmail for Android is testing a new “mark as read” button directly within its notifications, letting users manage their inbox without opening the app.
  • The feature appears to be undergoing A/B testing with a small number of users, as it’s not widely available despite being on the latest app version.
  • This potential addition would bring Gmail’s Android app in line with its iOS counterpart and other email clients that already offer this convenient shortcut.

If your email inbox gets flooded with messages each day, it can be a chore to go through them all. One way to efficiently deal with this influx is to mark some emails as “read,” keeping them in your inbox without distracting you from more important matters. After all, you can often tell if an email needs your immediate attention just from the sender, subject line, and the first few lines of the message. Unfortunately, if you use Gmail for Android and want to mark an email as read, you have to open the app, as there’s no shortcut in the notification to do it. Thankfully, that could change soon.

Earlier today, X user Kurt Gomez notified us that he was seeing a “mark as read” button in his Gmail notifications. He told us that the button only appeared for one of his accounts, suggesting the feature is rolling out on an account-by-account basis. He also confirmed he’s on the latest version of Gmail for Android, version 2025.06.15. I have the same version installed, but I don’t see the “mark as read” button for any of my accounts.

Besides our tipster, we’ve only seen one other person report a “mark as read” button in Gmail. Another X user, Gilroy, also claimed to have the button but didn’t share a screenshot or specify their app version. With so few reports, it’s likely Google is A/B testing the feature with a small group of users to gauge engagement. This feature will likely be popular, however, as it’s commonly found in other Android email apps and is already available in Gmail for iOS.

If you see the new “mark as read” button in your Gmail notifications, let us know in the comments below! If you don’t have the feature yet, you could try an app called AutoNotification. It can replace Gmail’s notifications with custom ones that include a “read” button.

Otherwise, you’ll have to stick with the old methods for marking an email as read. You can either open the email directly (from either the notification or the inbox) or use a swipe gesture, provided you’ve configured that action in Gmail’s settings.

Hopefully Google will continue to add more quality-of-life features like this to the Gmail app for Android. While some of the new AI features in Gmail are nice, I’d much prefer the company work on implementing the basics, like the ability to edit filters and labels.

Semler’s $11B Bitcoin bet. Can the tiny med-tech firm become the next Strategy? https://earlybirdsinvest.com/semlers-11b-bitcoin-bet-can-the-tiny-med-tech-firm-become-the-next-strategy/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/semlers-11b-bitcoin-bet-can-the-tiny-med-tech-firm-become-the-next-strategy/#respond Fri, 20 Jun 2025 10:43:40 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/semlers-11b-bitcoin-bet-can-the-tiny-med-tech-firm-become-the-next-strategy/

Semler Scientific, the previously obscure medical device maker, has unveiled plans to acquire a staggering 105,000 BTC by the end of 2027. Its ambition would make Semler the second-largest corporate Bitcoin holder in the world, behind only Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy).

The announcement, made on June 20, sent Semler’s shares soaring nearly 12% in pre-market trading, amid investor enthusiasm for the company’s aggressive Bitcoin treasury strategy. At current prices, the 105,000 BTC goal represents over $11 billion, an eye-popping figure for a company that posted less than $60 million in revenue last year.

From medical devices to macro bets

Semler Scientific built its business around diagnostic tools like ankle-brachial index testing for peripheral artery disease. But since May 2024, when the company adopted Bitcoin as its primary treasury reserve asset, its profile has shifted dramatically.

The firm’s first purchase for $40 million marked the start of a financial transformation. By April, Semler held 3,467 BTC acquired at an average cost of $88,263. It has since added another 982 BTC, bringing its total to 4,449 BTC, worth approximately $471 million.

The roadmap forward is even more ambitious. Semler targets 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025, 42,000 by the end of 2026, and the full 105,000 by December 2027. Achieving that would require it to acquire over 100,000 BTC in under three years, a rate of accumulation unmatched by any other public company save MicroStrategy.

Building a Bitcoin powerhouse

To execute this plan, Semler is drawing from the Strategy playbook. The company is funding its purchases through a mix of at-the-market (ATM) share sales, senior convertible notes, and operating cash flow. It raised $88.5 million via convertible debt in early 2025 and continues to tap capital markets to finance additional buys.

On June 19, Semler hired Bitcoin analyst Joe Burnett as Director of Bitcoin Strategy, a role that did not exist prior to the company’s pivot. Burnett brings a vocal Bitcoin-maximalist stance and stated the goal bluntly: “It’s time to build one of the most valuable companies in the world.”

Eric Semler, the company’s chairman and namesake, added, “We are excited to have Joe join our Bitcoin strategy team and help drive our three-year plan to own 105,000 Bitcoins.”

Beyond Hype: Questions of Scale and Risk

While Semler’s BTC bet has captured headlines, it also invites scrutiny. The scale of accumulation, equal to roughly 0.5% of Bitcoin’s maximum supply, raises liquidity crunch questions about market depth and execution.

There are internal risks too. Critics warn that focusing too heavily on Bitcoin could distract from Semler’s core med-tech operations, where R&D and regulatory compliance remain capital-intensive. Furthermore, with the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) now requiring fair-value accounting for digital assets, the company’s earnings could swing wildly with BTC price volatility.

Regulatory optics add another layer of complexity. As a healthcare player serving Medicare and FDA-regulated markets, Semler’s pivot to a digital asset-heavy strategy is unprecedented and could have drawn new scrutiny under previous regulatory regimes. However, given the current regulatory climate in the US, it would be surprising to see any US company discouraged from buying Bitcoin.

Strategy comparisons and a new corporate trend

Inevitably, observers have dubbed Semler “MicroStrategy junior.” Michael Saylor’s firm holds roughly 592,100 BTC and uses a similar combination of equity issuance and debt to build its war chest. But unlike Strategy, which remains a profitable software business, Semler is wagering a relatively modest operating base against a colossal financial position.

That dichotomy could still work in Semler’s favor. If BTC appreciates and investor sentiment remains strong, Semler may ride a valuation wave that, like Strategy, decouples from its underlying product sales.

The move also reinforces the broader narrative of Bitcoin’s growing role in corporate finance. While tech firms like Block and Tesla have dabbled in BTC holdings, Semler’s full-throttle commitment makes it a bellwether for a new wave of balance-sheet bulls, even outside the tech sector.

Semler’s pivot may yet prove visionary, or perilous. Its Bitcoin holdings already dwarf its core business in value, and the company is now on a path where digital asset management may define its future more than medical diagnostics.

With its $10 billion BTC target, Semler is betting on Bitcoin, while also betting it can remake its identity entirely akin to Strategy.

Whether investors buy into that story long-term remains the open question. But for now, Semler is aligning itself even closer to Strategy’s Bitcoin play, hoping it’s still early enough to the party to see long-term outsized gains.

Bitcoin At The Core Of Bhutan’s Tiny Yet Mighty Investment Plan https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-at-the-core-of-bhutans-tiny-yet-mighty-investment-plan/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-at-the-core-of-bhutans-tiny-yet-mighty-investment-plan/#respond Tue, 13 May 2025 05:48:16 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-at-the-core-of-bhutans-tiny-yet-mighty-investment-plan/

Bhutan’s government is pushing hard to open its doors to investors and new industries. It wants more than just its famous Gross National Happiness score. It plans to use its clean energy and special economic zones to bring jobs home. But many challenges lie ahead.

Bhutan Faces Brain Drain

According to recent figures, about 13,500 Bhutanese—1.6% of the country’s less than 800,000 people—moved to Australia in 2023. That kind of outflow shows young talent is chasing bigger markets. It leaves Bhutan short on skilled workers at a time when it needs fresh ideas and start‐up energy. Geography doesn’t help. Being landlocked between India and China means transporting goods and building infrastructure costs more and takes longer.

Hydropower Drives New Plans

Bhutan’s main export is electricity from rivers. It has 2.5 gigawatts of hydropower now and another 3 GW under construction. Cheap and clean, this power could fuel factories, server farms or green-tech trials. Based on reports from Druk Holdings and Investments (DHI), the country’s sovereign wealth fund, these sites could let firms test pump-storage systems or hydrogen production in real conditions. Quick pilots in Bhutan might then be rolled out regionally.

BTC is now trading at $104,406. Chart: TradingView

Bitcoin Mining Growth

Based on a report by Fortune, Bitcoin mining is one of the more unusual bets. Bhutan started mining crypto in 2019 when a Bitcoin cost just under $10,000. As of May 7, 2025, each coin is worth about $97,400. According to DHI, relying on hydropower makes this mining low-carbon, and profits boost the fund’s $3 billion portfolio. But crypto prices swing hard. One big drop could wipe out gains. Still, DHI calls Bitcoin “digital gold” and says it’s part of a mixed approach.

Gelephu Mindfulness City

Based on planning documents, Gelephu Mindfulness City will cover about 2,500 square kilometers near the Indian border. This special zone aims to link Bhutan with South and Southeast Asia, offering space for health clinics, tech startups and green-energy firms. It’s billed as a place where work and well-being meet. Roads, digital lines and homes all need to be built from scratch. That will take cash and many years before hotels or offices fill up.

Bhutan’s GNH index rose from 0.743 in 2010 to 0.781 in 2022. Over the same span, GDP per person grew from $2,435 to $3,711, though it dipped sharply in 2020 during the pandemic. Tourism is still recovering: 145,000 visitors came last year, down from 315,599 in 2019 under the “high-value, low-impact” model that caps arrivals to protect mountain roads and forests.

DHI looks to Singapore’s Temasek as a governance example. Temasek manages about $300 billion and owns stakes in big names like Singapore Airlines. By contrast, DHI holds shares in 24 Bhutanese firms, including Bhutan Telecom and Bank of Bhutan. Executives say size is not the key. What matters is moving fast, staying lean and turning green energy into growth.

Bhutan’s plan is bold. It blends traditional values with a shot at tech and finance. If young people see real jobs at home, some may stay. If pilot projects succeed, small-scale could grow big. But any misstep in hydropower, crypto or city building risks stretching Bhutan’s limited resources. For now, investors and citizens alike will be watching closely.

Mistral’s Medium 3 Delivers Big AI Power at a Tiny Price https://earlybirdsinvest.com/mistrals-medium-3-delivers-big-ai-power-at-a-tiny-price/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/mistrals-medium-3-delivers-big-ai-power-at-a-tiny-price/#respond Sat, 10 May 2025 20:58:10 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/mistrals-medium-3-delivers-big-ai-power-at-a-tiny-price/

Mistral, a Paris-based artificial intelligence (AI) company founded in 2023, has released a new AI model called Medium 3.

According to the company’s announcement on May 7, “Mistral Medium 3 delivers frontier performance while being an order of magnitude less expensive”.

Medium 3 joins the company’s lineup of previous releases, including open-source models like Mistral 7B, Mixtral, Codestral, and Pixtral. However, unlike those earlier models, Medium 3 is not open-source, and users cannot modify or run it on their own devices.

Medium 3 costs $0.40 per million input tokens and $2 per million output tokens. Reviews by Artificial Analysis rated it as one of the best non-reasoning models available. It competes closely with options like Llama 4 Maverick, Gemini 2.0 Flash, and Claude 3.7 Sonnet.

Sophia Yang, a representative from the company, stated:

Mistral Medium 3 shines in the coding domain and delivers much better performance, across the board, than some of its much larger competitors.

Additionally, Medium 3 supports a 128,000-token context window and can process text and images in over 40 languages. This makes it useful for a wide range of tasks, including handling documents and visual content.

Currently, the model is aimed at business use rather than everyday users. It is available through LeChat, Mistral’s chatbot interface, and is designed to work with business systems. Companies can fine-tune it, connect it with internal data, and keep improving it with continuous updates.

Meanwhile, on April 28, OpenAI introduced new features to its AI chatbot, ChatGPT. What are they? Read the full story.

A Tiny Company Wants to Buy $20M TRUMP Token to Change U.S.-Mexico Trade Deals https://earlybirdsinvest.com/a-tiny-company-wants-to-buy-20m-trump-token-to-change-u-s-mexico-trade-deals/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/a-tiny-company-wants-to-buy-20m-trump-token-to-change-u-s-mexico-trade-deals/#respond Sat, 03 May 2025 18:51:03 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/a-tiny-company-wants-to-buy-20m-trump-token-to-change-u-s-mexico-trade-deals/

Freight Technologies (FRGT), a $4.8 million market cap logistics tech firm focused on cross-border trade between the U.S. and Mexico, has entered an agreement to buy up to $20 million in the Official Trump Token (TRUMP) to build out its crypto treasury.

The company said it secured the funding through a convertible note facility with an institutional investor, with an initial $1 million tranche already committed. The capital will be used solely to acquire TRUMP tokens, making it one of the first publicly listed companies to do so.

The decision follows a separate investment in AI-linked FET tokens currently valued at $8 million, which the company says supports AI tools used across its logistics platforms.

Buying digital assets for publicly traded companies isn’t a new strategy.

Michael Saylor championed it with a bitcoin strategy, and others, such as Semler Scientific (SMLR), followed through. Most recently, Cantor (CEP) is making a splash with huge dry powder to do the same. Meanwhile, companies such as Sol Strategies (HODL) and Janover (JNVR) are buying up SOL tokens to give investors exposure to the cryptocurrency.

The trend is also picking up in Japan, where hotel firm Metaplanet has recently hit 5,000 BTC on its balance sheet and issued $25 million in bonds to fund additional purchases. Smaller firms, including Value Creation, Remixpoint, NEXON, Anap Holdings, and WEMADE are also accumulating the cryptocurrency.

However, Freight’s mandate is slightly different: to influence the U.S.-Mexico trade deal amid President Trump’s all-out trade war.

“We believe that the addition of the Official Trump tokens are an excellent way to diversify our crypto treasury, and also an effective way to advocate for fair, balanced, and free trade between Mexico and the US,” Javier Selgas, the company’s CEO, said in a press release on April 30.

While such a strategy could help a company such as Freight, influencing presidential decisions by buying a memecoin could bring up the question of conflict of interest. Just recently, Trump said he will hold a private dinner with top token holders, drawing outcry from Democratic lawmakers, who cited the president’s involvement with the token as potential grounds for impeachment.

On April 25, Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) pointed to the crypto project offering its top holders an invitation to a dinner event with President Trump, calling it a clear case of selling access to the presidency.

For Freight, whose stock price plunged nearly 90% in the last 12 months and is heavily tied to cross-border trading, it seems this might be the best way to keep share prices afloat.

“At the heart of Fr8Tech’s mission is the promotion of productive and active commerce between the United States and Mexico. Mexico is the United States’ top goods trading partner, with Mexico being the leading destination for US exports and the top source for US imports,” Selgas added.

After announcing the move, Freight Technologies’ shares jumped over 111% before the closing bell on Friday. However, in after-hours trading, the stock plunged 21.6%.

Freight Technologies’ product lineup includes a suite of applications, ranging from cross-border freight booking to transportation management, all aimed at modernizing the flow of goods in North America.

Other companies have made investments in the crypto space linked to the U.S. President. Last month, DWF Labs invested $25 million in the decentralized finance protocol backed by Trump and his family, World Liberty Financial (WLFI), as it moved to establish a physical presence in the U.S.

The investment gives DWF Labs a governance stake in the project, which has been accumulating various cryptocurrencies and is set to soon launch a stablecoin backed by short-term U.S. Treasury bills and other cash equivalents, called USD1.

TRUMP tokens are trading at $12.7, up just 0.1% for the day and 42% in the last 30 days.

Galaxy Tab S10 FE Plus leak drops, and suddenly the previous model looks tiny https://earlybirdsinvest.com/galaxy-tab-s10-fe-plus-leak-drops-and-suddenly-the-previous-model-looks-tiny/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/galaxy-tab-s10-fe-plus-leak-drops-and-suddenly-the-previous-model-looks-tiny/#respond Thu, 27 Feb 2025 12:43:12 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/galaxy-tab-s10-fe-plus-leak-drops-and-suddenly-the-previous-model-looks-tiny/

What you need to know

  • The Galaxy Tab S10 FE Plus is rumored to sport a 13.1-inch display, making it larger than the 12.4-inch S9 FE Plus.
  • The regular S10 FE is reportedly sticking to 10.9 inches, just like last year’s model.
  • Expect different RAM and storage options, with the top model featuring 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.

A new rumor claims that Samsung is gearing up to give the Galaxy Tab S10 FE Plus a bigger display, outshining its predecessor in screen size.

We’ve already heard a lot about the Galaxy Tab S10 FE and S10 FE Plus in terms of their processor, memory, and connectivity specs. But one thing was still up in the air: how the S10 FE Plus’s size stacks up against the S9 FE Plus. Thanks to Roland Quandt, we finally have the scoop on that missing piece of the puzzle (via SamMobile).

According to the tipster, the Galaxy Tab S10 FE Plus is set to feature a 13.1-inch display, while the standard S10 FE is expected to have a 10.9-inch screen, like last year’s model.

For context, the Galaxy Tab S9 FE Plus has a 12.4-inch display, while the standard S9 FE comes with 10.9 inches.

The previous models have proven to be solid alternatives to Samsung’s flagship tablets, offering a balance of affordability and performance. Now, to make the Tab S10 FE Plus even more enticing, Samsung seems to be upping the ante with a noticeably bigger screen.

If these specs turn out to be true, Samsung’s budget-friendly tablet could outshine the iPad Air 13’s 12.9-inch display.

Even with its sizable 13.1-inch display, the Galaxy Tab S10 FE Plus is still smaller than Samsung’s high-end Tab S10 Ultra. But with a much lower price tag, it gives buyers a solid big-screen option without breaking the bank.

At the same time, Quandt confirmed that both tablets will come in multiple setups, with options for different memory sizes. The top-tier versions are tipped to pack 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

Sticking to the budget-friendly approach of the Tab S10 FE series, it’s expected to run on the Exynos 1580 chip. While it’s not a powerhouse, this mid-range processor from Samsung should handle everyday tasks just fine.
