What is Azuki TCG?

Azuki TCG is a trading card game developed as part of the Azuki project, a web3-focused brand that includes digital art, online communities, and anime-inspired themes.

The TCG introduces a structured card game format featuring turn-based strategy, faction-based decks, and defined win conditions. It will be played both competitively and casually, with its first official tournament taking place in July 2025.

The release of a gameplay guide marks the project’s first detailed explanation of how the game works. Although Azuki is a blockchain-native brand, the guide does not currently mention any integration with digital assets or tokens.

How do you play the game?

Each player selects a faction and uses a 50-card deck built around a Leader card. The game is played on a field divided into two rows, with each row allowing up to 5 entities.

  • Garden (front row): This is where battles take place; any cards here can be attacked or used to attack.
  • Alley (back row): A protected zone used to stage cards before moving them forward using a Gate card.

Cards are moved from the Alley to the Garden using a Gate card. Once in the Garden, most cards must wait a turn before acting, unless they have a “Charge” attribute. In addition to these two rows, you have an IKZ pile and an IKZ area. The resource system is based on IKZ cards, which are tapped to pay for playing other cards. One IKZ card is revealed per turn from a separate pile and placed into the IKZ area for use or pay for card costs.

To win the game, players must either reduce the opposing Leader’s health to zero or cause the opponent to run out of cards in their deck.

Cards come in six categories:

  • Leader: The central figure of a player’s deck
  • Gate: Governs how cards move and influences strategy
  • Entity: Units that participate in combat
  • Weapon: Cards used to strengthen Leaders or Entities
  • Spell: One-time effects
  • IKZ: Resource cards used to pay for other cards

Additional mechanics include element types (Fire, Earth, Water, Lightning, Neutral) and tagged effects such as “Defender” or “When Attacked.”

The first official tournament for the Azuki TCG will be held on July 5, 2025 in Los Angeles, giving early players an opportunity to test the rules and mechanics in a competitive setting. The quick start guide provides a foundation for participants to prepare for this event.

A full public release of the game is expected later this year, though a specific launch date has not been confirmed. Additional updates are likely to follow the tournament, possibly including information on distribution, platform availability, and any digital features.

Orange Cap Games Raise $3.5M For Moonbirds and Vibes TCG https://earlybirdsinvest.com/orange-cap-games-raise-3-5m-for-moonbirds-and-vibes-tcg/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/orange-cap-games-raise-3-5m-for-moonbirds-and-vibes-tcg/#respond Wed, 11 Jun 2025 13:32:37 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/orange-cap-games-raise-3-5m-for-moonbirds-and-vibes-tcg/

Web3 game studio Orange Cap Games has announced a $3.5M USD raise, with these funds set to fuel the growth of their Pudgy Penguins Vibes TCG and the recently-purchased Moonbirds IP.

Led by Web3 investment firm 1kx and Yuga Labs, the move signals continued support of the Moonbirds brand by the Yuga Labs team post-sale, and confirms co-founder Greg Solano‘s belief that “there’s no one better than Orange Cap Games to help [Moonbirds] reach [its] potential.”

This follows a $2M pre-seed angel round in September 2024, with participants including Pudgy Penguins parent company Igloo Inc., Yield Guild Games founder Gabby Dizon, and Rektguy creator OSF.

Key Insights

  • Orange Cap Games have announced a $3.5M raise, led by 1kx and Yuga Labs
  • These funds will be used to “bring IP to life while growing the Vibes TCG and Moonbirds products and ecosystems”
  • This follows a $2M raise in September 2024, including participation from Igloo Inc., Gabby Dizon and OSF
  • Yuga’s involvement signals their continued support of Moonbirds, in spite of their recent sale of the IP
  • Further details on the next steps for the Vibes TCG and Moonbirds IP will be shared in due course

What is Orange Cap Games?

Orange Cap Games is a self-styled “game and experience design studio”, based in New York.

Though they are a relatively new arrival on the Web3 gaming scene, their team boasts decades of collective experience in designing and manufacturing tabletop trading card games – and they have brought that expertise to the blockchain industry.

The team are the developers of Pudgy Penguins official trading card game, Vibes – a hybrid physical and digital experience that is stocked in over 100 retailers worldwide, and has seen over 4 million cards sold and 350,000 online games played since its launch in December 2024.

Last week, it was announced that Yuga Labs had agreed to sell the Moonbirds IP – which they themselves acquired in February 2024 – to Orange Cap Games for an undisclosed fee. It is unknown if Yuga’s involvement in Orange Cap Games’ $3.5M raise is a separate deal, or part of their divestment plan.

What will these funds be used for?

Orange Cap Games have stated that these funds will help them to “bring IP to life while growing the Vibes TCG & Moonbirds products and ecosystems.”

Further details have yet to be shared, though given that the announcement comes shortly after their acquisition of the Moonbirds IP – with a similarly short timespan observed between the announcement of their September 2024 raise and the reveal of the Vibes TCG – we can speculate that these funds will play a key role in their plans for the Moonbirds brand.

Peter Pan, partner at 1kx – the investment firm which led this $3.5M round – stated that “We continue to believe that the world’s biggest IP to emerge over the next decade will have their roots in crypto, and believe that onchain primitives will enable new forms of IP to flourish in ways never seen before.

“We believe it is still incredibly early in this design space, and that very few operators have been capable of cracking the code on this category. We believe that Orange Cap Games has that potential.”

Ubisoft, Immutable to revive Might & Magic as a mobile TCG https://earlybirdsinvest.com/ubisoft-immutable-to-revive-might-magic-as-a-mobile-tcg/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/ubisoft-immutable-to-revive-might-magic-as-a-mobile-tcg/#respond Wed, 23 Apr 2025 20:59:52 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/ubisoft-immutable-to-revive-might-magic-as-a-mobile-tcg/

Ubisoft is breathing new life into its long-running fantasy franchise with the announcement of Might & Magic: Fates, a strategy card game developed in collaboration with Web3 gaming platform Immutable.

The new title aims to modernize the Might & Magic universe for mobile audiences while integrating digital asset ownership through blockchain technology, according to an April 23 joint statement.

Set for release on iOS and Android, Might & Magic: Fates invites players into a tactical world built around customizable decks, iconic fantasy creatures, and faction-based mechanics.

The game will allow players to collect, trade, and strategize with hundreds of cards, offering rewards based on in-game progression and skill.

Ubisoft, known for major franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, emphasized the importance of staying true to the franchise’s roots while embracing new formats.

The title continues Ubisoft’s exploration of digital ownership and blockchain utility in gaming, a space the company has gradually entered over recent years through its Strategic Innovation Lab. Might & Magic: Fates is positioned as a franchise milestone, using modern tools to reach the next generation of players.

Nicolas Pouard, Vice President of Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab, said:

“This game will deliver a deep and rewarding experience for both long-time fans and new players alike.”

Immutable, the studio behind Gods Unchained and Guild of Guardians, is providing the underlying blockchain infrastructure. Through its technology, players will be able to securely own and trade in-game assets without compromising gameplay speed or accessibility.

Immutable Chief Studio Officer Justin Hulog said:

“Ubisoft’s vision for Might & Magic: Fates aligns perfectly with our mission to enhance game ownership and player engagement. This collaboration pushes the boundaries of what AAA franchises can achieve in the Web3 space.”

The launch is seen as a milestone in the fusion of traditional gaming and blockchain innovation. While Ubisoft brings decades of storytelling and strategic design, Immutable adds blockchain fluency and a track record of successful Web3 games.

Additional gameplay footage and pre-registration details will be revealed in the coming months. The companies are scheduled to unveil more at a joint appearance on May 1.

Parallel TCG Mobile Debuts in the Philippines https://earlybirdsinvest.com/parallel-tcg-mobile-debuts-in-the-philippines/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/parallel-tcg-mobile-debuts-in-the-philippines/#respond Thu, 27 Mar 2025 14:41:50 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/parallel-tcg-mobile-debuts-in-the-philippines/

Parallel TCG has officially launched its mobile version on Android—starting with the Philippines.

This rollout marks the game’s first step into mobile gaming and is part of a broader effort to make the title more accessible worldwide. The release delivers the full Parallel experience in a format optimised for smartphones, allowing players to build decks, choose factions, and battle others.

Feedback from local players is expected to shape updates and feature refinement.

Gameplay Overview

At its core, Parallel TCG is a turn-based strategy game where players select one of five “Parallels”—futuristic factions that represent alternate versions of humanity after a global disaster.

Each faction offers a distinct playstyle, card pool, and strategic philosophy. Players construct 40-card decks using units, effects, and relics to outsmart opponents and reduce their health to zero.

Gameplay centres on managing an energy resource system and reacting to an evolving battlefield. With each turn, players make critical decisions about which cards to play and when to strike. The result is a layered, tactical experience that rewards foresight and adaptation.

What’s next for Parallel?

The mobile version brings the full game experience to Android devices, retaining all of the competitive mechanics seen in the desktop release. Developers say the client has been carefully optimised to deliver smooth performance and intuitive touch controls without compromising strategic depth.

In addition to portability, the team behind Parallel plans to introduce mobile-only events, seasonal ladders, and social features that support more flexible gaming sessions. Pre-registration for the mobile version opened earlier this month, with thousands of users signing up ahead of launch.

The Philippine launch signals the beginning of a gradual global rollout, with additional regions expected to gain access to the mobile client in the weeks ahead. Whilst no exact dates have been announced, the team has committed to providing updates on iOS availability and broader market access soon.
