South Korea’s government is set to fast-track pro-business crypto reforms, including stablecoin regulations.

The South Korean newspaper Metro Seoul reported that the Presidential Committee on State Affairs announced its plans at a public briefing on August 13.

South Korea Crypto Reform Taking Shape

The committee spoke of a five-year plan for state administration, naming 123 state affairs-related tasks.

Among these tasks named were “the construction of a digital asset ecosystem” and “developing the domestic cryptoasset market.”

Both were identified as “key national tasks” for the administration, which took office in early June this year following the election of President Lee Jae-myung.

Lee has spoken repeatedly about his intention to build up the domestic crypto sector, with deregulation and stablecoin regulation high on his agenda.

The President appears keen to let domestic firms issue won-pegged stablecoins. Leading banks and IT companies have reacted by registering scores of stablecoin-related trademarks.

Others are hurriedly rolling out crypto-related business plans, aware that this may allow non-financial firms to develop advanced payment platforms.

However, one of President Lee’s key campaign pledges was left off the five-year plan, namely the dissolution of the Financial Services Commission (FSC).

The FSC is the nation’s top financial regulator. Its Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) polices the country’s crypto exchanges, issuing operating permits and conducting periodic on-site inspections.

It also enforces anti-money laundering and terrorist financing protocols at the trading platforms.

The Government Complex Building in Seoul, South Korea, where South Korea crypto reform is taking a step forward.

FSC: Vociferous Critic No More?

In previous years, the FSC has been a vociferous critic of the crypto sector. But in recent years, as governments have relaxed their hardline stance to the industry, it has spoken in favor of reform.

Under the proposal, FSC’s supervisory duties were to transfer to the Financial Supervisory Service.

The FSC’s policy-related tasks were due to transfer to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance.

But Lee’s plan to scrap the FSC proved controversial, even among senior ministers. While his offices have yet to confirm that the President has shelved the policy, the five-year plan appeared to suggest the proposal may have moved to the back burner.

There was no mention of the regulatory reorganization move on the plan. And seven of the 123 tasks were assigned to the FSC.

The newspaper added that crypto reforms are a “key focus” for both the government and the National Assembly this year.

As such, reforms are “expected to gain momentum” in the weeks ahead, Metro Seoul wrote.

‘Time to Play Catch-up’

Political leaders are concerned that South Korea is being left behind. They note that over the past two years, the global crypto market has expanded by about 262%.

While crypto investment has spiked in the US, the European Union, and Japan, driven by institutionalization drives, the same cannot be said for Seoul. The outlet wrote:

“Delayed institutional reforms and a lack of legislation in South Korea have left the domestic cryptoasset market significantly lagging in terms of competitiveness.”

The FSC has prioritized its plan to allow corporations to buy and sell crypto. It also wants to tak a “more relaxed approach” to regulations.

The regulator has previously spoken of its intention to roll out crypto-related regulations before the end of this year.

However, skeptics say that a final decision on the fate of the FSC is yet to be taken. Talks to abolish the regulator “may resume in the future,” the newspaper explained.

Unnamed financial sector officials opined that the debate over the reorganization of the financial regulators would “continue until the end of the year.”

Earlier this month, the Seoul district of Gangnam announced it had recouped $144,057 in unpaid taxes in the first half of this year by seizing coins from tax evaders.

‘Big Short’ Investor Steve Eisman Says US Budget Deficit ‘Nothing To Talk About’ Due to Insatiable Demand for Treasuries https://earlybirdsinvest.com/big-short-investor-steve-eisman-says-us-budget-deficit-nothing-to-talk-about-due-to-insatiable-demand-for-treasuries/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/big-short-investor-steve-eisman-says-us-budget-deficit-nothing-to-talk-about-due-to-insatiable-demand-for-treasuries/#respond Wed, 09 Jul 2025 09:27:02 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/big-short-investor-steve-eisman-says-us-budget-deficit-nothing-to-talk-about-due-to-insatiable-demand-for-treasuries/

One of the investors who called and profited off the subprime mortgage collapse of 2008, Steve Eisman, is brushing off concerns over the rising US budget deficit.

In a new interview on CNBC, the Wall Street investor says the heavy demand for US treasuries from across the globe suggests there’s no cause for worry over the deficit.

“There’s a great slogan that I think really applies to politics and international affairs, which is when someone tells you who they are, believe them. But in the market, when someone tells you who they are, don’t believe them [until when] they actually do something with their money.

So all the people who are pontificating about this… The price of this risk is a 10-year Treasury yield. And what’s happened to the 10-year Treasury yield? It’s been directionless since December of 2022. So the more important question is given that all these people are pontificating about it, why hasn’t it moved? And again, I think the reason is there’s no alternative to Treasuries.

If there was a real alternative to Treasuries, then all of this stuff about the deficit is something that I would pay attention to. But as long as there’s no alternative, there’s nothing to talk about.”

Eisman also says the demand for US bonds all over the world is “insatiable” and that he believes investors will always show up in Treasury auctions to accumulate government debt.

Late last month, Eisman said he was optimistic about the stock market due to the long-term growth potential of the US economy.

“We’ve been in a bull market pretty much for the last 10 years with some fits and starts. And so buy the dip has become almost a religion. It’s a religion that right now I largely subscribe to because I am of the view… that the US economy is more dynamic than it’s ever been in my lifetime. So long term, I am very bullish.”

Saylor shoots his shot for Joe Rogan spot: ‘Let’s talk about Bitcoin’ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/saylor-shoots-his-shot-for-joe-rogan-spot-lets-talk-about-bitcoin/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/saylor-shoots-his-shot-for-joe-rogan-spot-lets-talk-about-bitcoin/#respond Sun, 01 Jun 2025 04:57:01 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/saylor-shoots-his-shot-for-joe-rogan-spot-lets-talk-about-bitcoin/

Strategy co-founder Michael Saylor has publicly expressed interest in discussing Bitcoin on the world’s most-listened-to podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience.

“Hey @joerogan, let’s talk about Bitcoin,” Saylor said in a May 31 X post in response to a Joe Rogan fan account asking, “Who’s one guest you’d love to see Joe Rogan interview that he hasn’t had on yet?”

Saylor’s post triggered excitement among the Bitcoin community

Saylor’s post prompted speculation within the Bitcoin (BTC) community. Popular Bitcoiner, The Bitcoin Therapist, said, “This interview will shatter the internet.”

Crypto analyst Kook told their 164,200 X followers that “Saylor is going to Bitcoin pill Joe Rogan.” Meanwhile, crypto commentator Brandon MacDougal said, “For the first time ever, I’ll be watching a Joe Rogan podcast if Saylor is there.”

Rogan has frequently discussed crypto and Bitcoin on his podcast and has made several pro-Bitcoin comments over the years. In an October 2023 episode with OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman, Rogan said that Bitcoin fascinates him the most of all cryptocurrencies.

“The real fascinating crypto is Bitcoin. That’s the one that I think has the most likely possibility of becoming a universal viable currency. It’s limited in the amount that it can be,” Rogan said.

“I love the fact that it’s been implemented,” he added.

Although Rogan has yet to respond to Saylor’s post, featuring a guest from the Bitcoin industry wouldn’t be unfamiliar territory. Even in Bitcoin’s early days, Rogan gave the topic airtime on his podcast.

Between 2014 and 2016, Bitcoin entrepreneur Andreas Antonopoulos made several appearances on Rogan’s podcast when Bitcoin was still trading below $1,000.

Saylor’s firm Strategy, holds 580,250 Bitcoin, worth $60.47 billion, according to Saylor Tracker.

Saylor recently speculated why Bitcoin’s price is not yet $150,000. He said holders without a long-term outlook have been selling off while a new cohort of investors are beginning to enter the market.

“I think we’re going through a rotation right now,” Saylor said on the Coin Stories podcast with Natalie Brunell on May 9.

UFC superstar Conor McGregor has endorsed the idea of an Irish Bitcoin strategic reserve, sparking renewed debate about the country’s financial future and the role of digital assets in its national policy.

In a post on X that garnered over half a million views within hours, McGregor wrote:

“Crypto in its origin was founded to give power back to the people. An Irish Bitcoin strategic reserve will give power to the people’s money. I will be cohosting a Twitter space to talk about what I want to see changed. Victory to Ireland!”

McGregor throwing his significant weight behind such a policy brings a conversation usually reserved for crypto enthusiasts and policymakers into the mainstream. By framing Bitcoin as a way to empower ordinary Irish citizens, he’s elevating the topic to the broader public. His announcement of a Twitter Space on it shows his intent to keep the conversation going and potentially influence decision-makers at a key time for digital asset adoption in Europe.

What is a strategic Bitcoin reserve, and how could Ireland benefit?

The concept of a strategic Bitcoin reserve is nothing new, but it remains largely controversial and untested among established economies. In this context, a strategic reserve refers to a government or institution intentionally holding Bitcoin as part of its national reserves alongside traditional assets like gold and foreign currency.

Proponents argue that Bitcoin’s fixed supply, neutrality, and decentralization make it an ideal hedge against inflation and a tool for diversifying national portfolios. They also point to its global liquidity and the potential for long-term growth as a digital asset for a digital age.

Ireland would not be the first country to consider such a move. El Salvador made headlines in 2021 as the first nation to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender and to add it to its national reserves, and other countries have begun to explore the idea.

The Czech National Bank is considering holding Bitcoin as a reserve asset, and the Swiss National Bank recently explored the idea but rejected it over volatility concerns. Russia has announced plans to diversify its reserves with Bitcoin by 2028, aiming to reduce reliance on the U.S. dollar. Meanwhile, Polish presidential candidate Sławomir Mentzen has proposed a strategic Bitcoin reserve to transform the country into a crypto hub.

While no federal reserve exists in the U.S. yet, newly appointed chair of the Senate Banking Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Sen. Cynthia Lummis, continues to make progress in the area, and several states have introduced proposals to explore Bitcoin reserves, with New Hampshire approving the first state-level Bitcoin strategic reserve law just days ago.

Conor McGregor’s involvement could be a game-changer for the Irish debate. As one of Ireland’s most recognizable global figures, McGregor has a track record of using his platform to advocate for causes he believes in, from athlete rights to business innovation. His interest in an Irish Bitcoin strategic reserve could catch the public’s imagination and put pressure on policymakers to consider such a move.

The Mantra team has linked the recent drop in its OM

token to unexpected position closures by centralized exchanges (CEXs).

On April 13, the token’s value fell from around $6.30 to under $0.50, wiping out more than 90% of its market cap, which had reached about $6 billion.

Mantra’s co-founder, John Mullin, said in an April 14 post on X that the drop was not due to typical market movement but instead came from exchanges closing user positions without warning.

He described the actions as “reckless” and said they likely happened during a low-trading period—Sunday evening in UTC, which is early Monday in Asia. Mullin suggested this timing raised questions about how the exchanges handled the event.

Mullin said they suspect one exchange, in particular, may be responsible. He confirmed that it was not Binance

Some traders said that Mantra might have used OM tokens to secure a large loan, which was liquidated when risk rules changed. Others have speculated that the price drop was a coordinated exit or “rug pull”.

Mullin rejected these claims, saying no loan was taken and the team had not removed any funds. He also noted that all team-held tokens were still locked according to the project’s release plan and that wallet activity remains open for review.

Haliey Welch, also known as the “Hawk Tuah Girl”, has returned to podcasting after months away from the spotlight.

Welch had kept a low profile following a short-lived crypto project that used her nickname. In December 2024, a Solana

KSI, whose full name is Olajide Olayinka Williams Olatunji, shares a similar history with crypto-related criticism. Though the two did not directly mention their past involvement in crypto during the episode, both spoke about facing public pressure and criticism.

Olatunji stated, “I’ve been here for so long I’ve had my ups and my downs and my dooooooowns. You’ve just got to roll with the punches and just stay consistent. In this industry, people are going to use and abuse you”.

Welch responded, “I found that out the hard way”.

In 2021, Olatunji faced claims that he promoted crypto tokens like XCAD Network and Ethernity Chain and then quickly sold them off. He has denied these accusations.

Welch confirmed that she cooperated in a civil case against those involved in launching the HAWK token. That lawsuit names crypto launchpad overHERE, its founder Clinton So, influencer Alex “Doc Hollywood” Schultz, and the Tuah the Moon Foundation. Welch is not being sued in that case.

Meanwhile, Welch is set to appear in a new documentary by Bungalow Media, an Emmy-winning production company. What will the film cover? Read the full story.

Officials from the Trump administration recently met with senior figures from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to talk about technology and business partnerships.

One of the key participants on the UAE side was Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the country’s national security adviser and brother of its president.

Although most of these meetings were not released, Bloomberg reported that Sheikh Tahnoon planned to cover topics such as energy, technology, and increased investment from the UAE into the United States.

His official X account also shows meetings with David Sacks, who oversees policy on digital currency and artificial intelligence (AI), where they discussed the influence of AI, the growing use of digital currencies, and how the two areas could create new investment possibilities.

He also met with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to talk about trade and investment. In a separate video call, he spoke with Elon Musk, who currently works on cost-saving efforts for the US government, about public systems.

Moreover, Sheikh Tahnoon joined President Donald Trump for dinner at the White House. The president later shared on Truth Social that they had talked about ways to strengthen cooperation between the US and the UAE in areas related to the economy and technology.

In addition to these meetings, Sheikh Tahnoon held discussions about AI with major tech leaders. These included Oracle’s Larry Ellison, BlackRock’s Larry Fink, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang.

Moto G Power 2025 review image showing Ask Gemini prompt box

Rushil Agrawal / Android Authority

Gemini is hands-down one of my favorite tools, but it doesn’t always answer every question I ask it. Certain topics are completely off-limits, and that piqued my curiosity. I wanted to dig into which subjects it avoids and figure out whether AI censorship makes any sense — or if it’s just overreach.

I started researching the topics Gemini doesn’t want to discuss and then asked it a barrage of questions in five different areas to see which ones it’d dodge. The results were a mixed bag in my view. Most of the censorship feels reasonable, but I think Google goes overboard in some areas.

Do you think chatbots like Gemini are too censored?

Topics that are off-limits

I was determined to pinpoint exactly which topics Gemini won’t touch, so I asked it directly. The list it gave me was fairly lengthy and included these restricted areas:

  • Anything promoting hate, discrimination, or violence.
  • Anything sexually suggestive, or exploiting, abusing, or endangering children.
  • Anything encouraging illegal or harmful activities.
  • Anything generating personally identifiable information (PII) or private details.
  • Anything producing malicious code or instructions.
  • Anything offering medical, legal, or financial advice without a disclaimer (and even then, it’s tightly restricted).
  • Anything clearly meant to deceive or mislead.
  • Anything excessively graphic or violent without a solid justification.
  • Anything that impersonates a real person.

With that framework in mind, I launched into a series of questions, kicking off with politics. I used both the 2.0 Flash and the paid 2.0 Pro Experimental models just to see if there’s a difference between the two.

Politics: Unexpected roadblocks

I was caught off guard when Gemini wouldn’t answer even the simplest political questions. I asked it who the president of various countries is —  from the US to Germany — and it refused to give me an answer. It also wouldn’t respond to basic queries like how long a specific politician has been in office for or what the latest White House spat involving Ukrainian President Zelensky was about. Strangely, it had no issue tackling a more sensitive topic: the relationship between China and Taiwan. Gemini gave a thoughtful, objective answer, clearly laying out the situation and each side’s perspective.

Jokes: Humor has limits

Next, I lightened things up and asked Gemini for a series of jokes to test out where it draws the line on humor. It happily churned out basic, safe jokes, but its boundaries showed up fast. When I requested a dark humor joke, it shut me down. The Flash model did offer a joke about men and one about women when prompted, but the Pro Experimental model played favorites — it told me a joke about men without hesitation but refused to tell one about women, even after asking it five times.

Stereotypes: Inconsistent rules

Stereotypes were a weird middle ground. The Flash model usually answered my questions about common stereotypes tied to specific nations, ethnicities, or religions, while the Pro Experimental model wouldn’t budge. Even with Flash, though, it waffled — it completely ignored some questions at first but answered after I repeated them two or three times. It felt like it couldn’t decide what it wanted to do.

Illegal activities: No help whatsoever

I then moved on to questions about potentially illegal activities. For instance, Gemini wouldn’t tell me how to pick a lock, even when I explained it was for my own house after locking myself out. Instead, it gave practical tips like calling a locksmith or my landlord — helpful, but not what I asked. It also held back when I asked how to jailbreak an iPhone, not giving me a direct response. Regardless of the type of question I asked it, it would not give me an answer.

Money and health: Cautious but fair

Money-related prompts got a similar sidestep. It wouldn’t give me stock picks, but instead, it would offer broad advice on investing, which I actually appreciated. Health questions followed the same pattern — Gemini could list possible medical conditions based on symptoms (even from an image I uploaded), but it wouldn’t lock in a definitive answer. I like that — it keeps things safe and sensible. So while financial and health-related categories aren’t censored in a traditional way, they are they are under heightened control.

Is AI censorship good or bad?

AI censorship is a divisive topic. I think it’s a good thing overall, but only up to a point. Prompts tied to violence — whether harming others or oneself — should absolutely go unanswered. I also think the handling of health and financial topics is spot-on; chatbots like Gemini shouldn’t give direct answers as that could lead to serious issues. Instead, they should provide a general overview, enough to nudge someone in the right direction without overstepping.

Censoring basic political questions doesn’t sit right with me.

That said, censoring basic political questions doesn’t sit right with me — it’s just too restrictive. Same goes for dark humor or random jokes about specific groups. I see nothing wrong with a good laugh. If Google’s putting so much effort into censoring a joke I’d read privately in my Gemini account, why not tackle all the dark humor jokes floating around in public search results too?

Censorship has its place, sure, but there’s a limit. The tough part is figuring out where that limit should be placed, as everyone’s got their own opinion.

What about the competition?

I asked ChatGPT, DeepSeek, and Grok the same questions to see how they stack up. ChatGPT’s censorship is pretty close to Gemini’s, with a key difference: it has no problem diving into politics and answered everything I asked it. It’s more cautious on stereotypes, though, completely refusing to play along.

DeepSeek is a lot like ChatGPT — it’s fine with politics but draws a hard line on anything China-related. While ChatGPT and Gemini can discuss the China-Taiwan issue, DeepSeek won’t touch the topic.

Then there’s Grok, which barely censors anything. Politics, stereotypes, and offensive jokes are not an issue for it. It even gave me detailed instructions on picking a lock, hotwiring a car, and becoming a pimp — though it noted these are all illegal activities and answered the questions based on the assumption that I was just curious. For financial stuff, Grok named specific stocks to consider, which could be risky. It does, however, stop at questions about harming oneself or others, which is the right call to make.

Overall, Gemini feels like the most censored AI chatbot I’ve tested. That said, most of its censorship has a clear purpose, and I generally agree it’s there for good reason. Still, the political blocks and humor limits feel excessive to me personally.

That’s my take, what’s yours? Does Gemini overdo it, or is this level of caution justified? Let me know in the comments.
